  • Never played Dark Souls, never played a Souls-Like, but I've heard from many of you that they are amazing! So I guess it's time for me to put my big-boy pants on and give one of these a try. Things I've been told to expect:
    I'm gonna die a lot
    I'm gonna die a lot
    I'm gonna die a lot
I might want to throw my PC out a window
lol... I'm SUPER excited though to delve into the genre that has defined what a 'challenging video game' looks like. I really hope you have an awesome time, and if you do, it would be amazing if you'd consider subscribing.
    Thanks,
    Benjamight

22:20 what I love about dark souls is that it demands your respect. An easy way to die is to go back to an area you're used to and take for granted. At max level, you can still die even back in the tutorial level

Dark Souls is not a forgiving game. But luckily you can undo the raw enchantment when you want. If you go to modify and look at the far right option, it let's you revert your weapon.
You could enjoy the higher damage from RAW until your stats are higher. Then revert back to normal +5 and take it up to +10 since you gave Andre the large ember

Havels Ring is actually very useful for you because you aren't going tank build. Using havels Ring you can wear some better armor while still light rolling. A tank would use the ring to wear the heaviest armor and medium roll.

50:00 sad to see but that's what happens. I literally sat back and said "it looks like he's got this, but he hasn't fallen in the lake yet so he's going to die". All players fall in once, it's a rule

BTW, there is only one cursed weapon drop in the game and it's from the ghosts.
The other one requires advanced game knowledge and you'll never get it on your own. You have to upgrade certain types of weapons, then use the correct boss soul. Unless you looked it up, you won't get it.
Also, Ive used it and it's not as good as just using transient curses

You deserve all the praise you are getting. Even tho you where nervous about trying the game you gave it An honest shot, stuck it out, And came out on top.
Most content creator who are new to dark souls just walk trough the game half awake and then complain that the game Is too hard.

    • @brandindennin4675
      @brandindennin4675 3 месяца назад +3

@@BenjamightGaming It depends on the weapon but you usually lose 1 rank in the scaling of one. It also stops the upgrading path at RAW +5, while normal weapons can go up much more.
Raw+5 is short-term more powerful than normal +10 but it's a dead end and ultimately worse than continuing along the normal path if you are still putting points into strength and dexterity.

    • @Turkeyfoot1990

@@BenjamightGaming Raw is best used on weapons you don't intend to use long term, for example: if you decide to only use a weapon until you reach Blight town, raw would be best since there's no chance you will be using it late game.

      @maxx8541 2 месяца назад +1

@@BenjamightGamingbrandin is thinking of later games. in the later ones you lose scaling completely but gain a much higher base damage. in dark souls 1 you keep some scaling but it's much lower than normal, and in return the base damage is a lot higher. what he said is still mostly true, but don't be too scared about having lost anything at this point, you can always revert your upgrades back to +5, and you won't notice those diminishing returns until later on

Honestly, just call them Soul. Before long you'll be having to call them Blood Echoes and Runes (though you'll still end up calling them Soul/Souls in that situation. You'll see).
I'm loving this playthrough. Also, there is actually a ring for when you're wading in water or the poison swamp with which you no longer get a penalty to movement. The only clue I'll give is that there's a birds nest somewhere...

The zweihander is my favorite. It's a huge sword you can pick up and equip right at the start of the game every time requiring only 16 strength and 10 dex. Its light attack has a nice sweep and easily stuns enemies. The heavy attack is an overhead smash that knocks enemies to the ground. The zweihander has good damage but the CC it brings is the biggest difference to the weapons you've tried.

There are 3 dodge-rolling speeds. Fast, medium, and slow. Dodge-rolling speed is determined by the ratio of your current equipment load relative to your maximum equipment load. If your current equipment load is between 0% and 25% of your maximum, you fast roll. Between 25% and 50%, you medium roll. From 50% to 100%, you will slow roll, also known as 'fat rolling'. If your equipment load is above 100% of your maximum then rolling and sprinting are not possible. You can view your current and maximum equipment loads on the character status menu. You can increase your maximum equipment load by leveling up your Endurance attribute or by equipping certain magic items.

Raw weapons have a more immediate reward damage-wise but falls short on the long run, as the scaling is lowered so won't benefit as much from you leveling up. Do not be discouraged, as there are other weapons that benefit much more from dex out there.
Havel Ring is VERY good, even if you're not particularly tanky. Higher equip load limit means you carry more easily your armor, potentially increasing the speed of your rolls.

Great job with Havel and the Hydra. The ladder you found basically gives you a back door to dark root forest's boss fight, skipping the need for the 20,000 soul Crest that Andre has. Unless you want the bonfire next to the crest door to be available. Also when you next reload your game, re-visit the hydra area but go as far to the back as you can, behind the ladder.

Ascending (modifying) a standard weapon to RAW weapon will increase the base damage, but lower stat scaling. Useful (for example) for a magic user with low strength and dex to convert a short sword to RAW because they won't really benefit from the strength or dex scaling. They are better off with the higher base damage.
Ascending any standard weapon to add elemental damage (fire, magic, divine, etc) will generally affect stat scaling as well. You should take that into consideration when upgrading.

My favorite weapons are Spear + shield because it lets me block and attack at the same time (despite loosing more stamina in doing so)
Don't try to look for the strongest weapon, there isn't one. You can finish the game with your starting weapon without problems, all you have to do is upgrade it and put points into attributes that scale the weapon damage (top is like 40 then it scales really slowly). For me the move set of weapon is far more important than the type of weapon.

1:55 I feel like this is only true for a select few people who ONLY play souls games lol. Grinding levels and upgrading your gear 100% will make the game easier. Facing the graveyard at level one with no weapon that can kill them vs later when you're a higher lvl with an appropriate weapon? Yeah, sure it can be said you can learn mechanics to bypass a lot of the game, but in your case, grinding and leveling up 100% also helps you lol
If you go back to the shop keep in the undead burg, you can buy the orange soapstone if you ever want to leave your own message! I will say the Havel Ring is a significantly good ring, one such as the blue tear stone never really sees use because you're within one shot range when its affect triggers making it useless most of the time.

Row weapons have a better base dmg and scales less from the dex str int faith , usualy are good for thouse who have a lot of points in something else like health stamina, spell slots
Dont warry if you do not like or upgraded a weapon to a bad type you can allweys revert to normal but you will have to grind the resorces again if you do not have them
My weapons are axes and i preffer the most the Battle Axe i beated bosses first try with it
armor is good against enemy that have hight attack speed , the more armor the better as long as you can withstand its weaight / enemys that attacks slow is better to have as less weight as posible so no armor or light armor will be better , your armor is good dont change it for now
tho if you want a better armor it will be better to change the blue ring to havels ring and equip heavyer armor that gives more def/poise
if you are going back down remember this 2 things :D dont warry is part of story and / if you do not trust a wall do not trust it twice
