1977 15" Mark I MESA/Boogie - Carlos Santana Style

- Carlos Santana is probably the best known MESA/Boogie endorsee, and certainly the longest running. Santana's Mark I Boogie amplifiers have helped define his instantly recognisable tone for four decades.
While Carlos' playing style is unique to him, there's still a great deal of fun to be had trying to mimic his tone. In this video, I've set my '77 Mark I amplifier somewhere close to the Santana tone: thick, creamy, sustaining forever, and with beautiful feedback.

Thx again zab! Great sustain the amp has!
No prob bro, glad you enjoyed it!
good job. sounds good. I just got a 1974 Mark I !!!!
Very nice ! One of the 1st available to the public !
very good tone. yeah
Great tone as always man!
@SonicProvocateur Thanks man, it's a great amp
@fitzrite The 15" combos have wider and taller cabinets to accommodate the larger speaker. The chassis itself is the same as the 'long' heads.
@jmac2wenty1 Y'know I've not actually played a reissue, but someone over at the Boogie Board (give it a Google) will be able to answer your question I'm sure.
@tubeknoppert Somewhere in the region of 8 on V1+V2, T-7, M-4, B-4. Graphic is probably disengaged, master volume around 4. That's off the top of my head but I think that's about what I run with that guitar normally. Cheers!
Sounds good. However, to REALLY nail the Santana tone you need an Altec 417-8h Series 2 speaker in it.....like Carlos has in his.
nice sound what are your amp knobs set at
Sounds good! Can you tell me what amp setting was? Thx
have the same amp , original mark I 15 inch speaker but without eq, had evm15l pro line in it , it was worthless ... and than , i acquired mint original altec 418b speaker ... my ampeg vt 22 lost its job ...
Is the eq engaged?
I honestly can’t remember, although I don’t think so. How funny looking back at 8 year old demo vids - the tone is definitely better than the intonation 🤣
I doubt this has a 15" speaker in it. I have a 1977 Hun-Re, and it has a 12. I don't think you could even fit a 15 in this cabinet.
I can assure you it does have a 15" speaker in it, it was mine previously
Because of an amazing amp, and that kind a playing. Thats what brings dislikes. If you gonna play for 40 seconds on that kind a amp, at least try your best!
Put some emotion into it. Think about your vibrato. Caress the neck
