I've been away from the rc world for a while . I chose to get a new xmaxx at Christmas I like the fact your telling people fact , basically just drive the truck and enjoy it Thank you
I’ve had mine since 2017 and the only thing that I did was upgrade the wheel hexes to aluminum because I was noticing wear and twisting from the 8S power. Since then, it’s crazy durable and I take this thing to the skate park and jump it off half pipes while doing multiple flips in the air. Only parts I’ve ever broken were from a wreck and I think the total cost for replacement parts was $12 total. The XMaxx is the ultimate basher and if left alone and maintained properly it’ll last an incredibly long time and give hours of enjoyment to whoever owns one.
You are absolutely right they really do grip I built a RC track in the backyard I was trying to kill the grass with Roundup but then me and my friends we started running our xmax on the track and it tore that grass all to pieces.. I'm 50 years old been had my xmax about 6 months now it is soooo much fun!!! The way this thing corners is unreal!! Please be careful around little kids I hit a little kid with my rustler and everybody laugh my cousin hit a kid with his xmax and it was a visit to the ER so have fun but be careful. A rc this big and this fast can be DANGEROUS!!! I love it though!!!!
I have left mine stock except a few tiny things. Bigger hub carriers, and threaded hinge pins. I never broke the factory anything, but the bearing seals popped off a few times and the bigger ones just seemed like a great idea. I am very happy with my xmaxx!
Great video… I was at the Rose Bowl yesterday for the 4th of July Firework Show and my buddies had X-Maxx trucks making my Slash look Iike a toy. They had all the upgrades available including the Badland wheels and tires and they were popping suspension pins every 10 minutes. The pins were easy to replace, but still a drag to be constantly breaking down as people are watching and always be repairing the truck. I’m buying my own X-Maxx truck soon and I’ll will only be upgrading the body shell. Awesome advice and explanation for leaving the truck stock… thank you!!! 😁👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I completely agree with chasing the week point. I have a lot of up graded RCs and my wide maxx is stock except for the long arms. Some RCs just don't gain much from throwing money in it
I actually like ballooning tires. Aids in rotation in air and looks awesome. Not like belted tires will allow an xmaxx to make high speed maneuvers anyways. But I kept tearing stock 8s tires so went to duratrax lockups. I also went max 5 and leopard 5892 motor. Mostly because I wanted more rotation in the air. The xmaxx actually handles big power pretty well and they extra power and weight really hasn't lead to extra breakage. I do agree proline 4.3 tires are way too heavy and lead to breakage though. Funny how unsprung mass breaks everything but all the sprung mass I added haven't really effected the durability.
I finally got myself an Xmaxx. I'm staying stock with the high speed gearing. I'm planning on a servo upgrade when the factory one craps out. Noticed ya haven't made a video in a long time. Hope all is well
I applied for a job at Six Flags this summer and plan on buying this RC once I start working. I've been doing research for a few weeks now, and it looks like the only thing people say is to upgrade the stock rear hub carriers to the RPM rear hub carriers as the bearings will fall out easily on the stock ones (they also say that the CEN threaded hinge pins are a good upgrade as well), so I might upgrade those to thing immediately right out of the box! Other than that, I'll leave everything stock and won't upgrade until something breaks, which seems like it's pretty difficult to do as the stock X-MAXX is pretty strong on its own!
I just got an XMaxx and did a lot of research before purchasing. I had seen a lot of people online having issues with the rear hub carriers and getting the RPM ones, so I did go that direction right off the bat. I did add some weight to the body with the goop and drywall tape. I also opted for the skid plate on the top. I ended up (with heat) gorilla taping the tires because they kept ballooning and coming unglued; one even exploded. I repaired the exploded tire with CA glue from the outside and really thin, scuffed bicycle inner tube with goop from the inside. I almost went down the upgrade rabbit hole myself until I saw how much the badlands weigh (and cost). After taping the tires no longer balloon. Speaking of balloons, I did wrap from the end links to the shock bodies with balloons, under the spring. This is better than shock socks because it actually seals the shafts from even the slightest chance of dirt getting in there and ruining seals. I consider this to be essentially stock with some reinforcements.
@@Dingle-Berries wow that was a while ago. This x-maxx has been through hell and back. it keeps on going. Very little time spent on the workbench. I did go with a higher weight (500k? 1m? I don't remember for sure) in the front and rear diffs and it crawls okay. I did build a super crawler and holy crap that thing crawls! I also did all kinds of antibalooning tricks including fishing line both inside and outside of the tires. It worked well enough for a year or so, but I ended up getting belted tires. If I remember right, the advertised weight was very negligible compared to other brands. Again, this was a while ago. I can look for specifics if you are interested. Lol, it always interests me to see how some communities are relatively troll-free, with far fewer people being butt hurt by differing points of view, compared to communities related to some of my other hobbies. Drone, video game and photography communities can be really congested with know-it-all negativity. Automotive, airgun and ebike communities are generally pretty friendly ... I'm brand new to 3d printing, we'll see how that goes!
@@levistewart5610 rpm part number 81732. Not sure how to send link but they are available on Amazon and eBay the replacement inner bearing comes with them and you use your outer bearing
Great video man!! I've got the Badlands and haven't experienced the same things your describing and showing in the video. I enjoy them because when I had my stock tires, I almost had them worn out around the outside due to the power slide turn around on the streets. I can still do this with the Badlands without flipping the truck and with as often as I do it the Badlands are holding up great!! I think you're used to driving it a certain way and now that you have made a change to the way it handles in your backyard you feel as though it's the tires and not the way you drive. Your just used to a certain result and with new tires it changes those results.
I'm a stocker too man! - I have only upgraded the rear carriers to RPM (bearing seals popped out of stock bearings), CEN hinge pins on the 4 outer corners (after breaking front left arm), and Traxxas black servo. Also sealed up stock wheel holes and vented tires to keep foams from getting destroyed by sand and water. - I have worn out my outdrives and the center diff shims (started popping internal gears) and replaced stock motor with a new stock motor due to front motor bearing going out (my fault for not servicing the motor bearings) since February 2017! - Longest running RC, on a single set of batteries, of any I have owned (the Maxx is right up there with it now). - This is one tough truck!
Chasing weak points just leads to more problems especially when it comes to adding weight and metal spur gears when unintended. It always ends up leading to drivetrain problems to some degree
Totally agree with you. Even the revo 2.0 stock tires are really quite good. I see a lot of people go straight to the belted trenchers. You lose drivability with those and weigh so much ends up either overheating your system or breaking other parts. I do run the non belted trenchers which are a bit lighter than stock. I would never go belted.
I say drive it before you upgrade it, things will break; replace/upgrade as required. I purchased my Xmaxx 2nd hand and blew a tire in first minute, I purchase Badlands and they are great, solid tire. Though my steering servo went after awhile and I replaced it with a 2085X. All has been good ever since!
I got mine second hand aswell and the guy never told me the foams in two of the tires were shot. Kind of a bummer but I heard the foams weren't good in the stock xmaxx tires. Guess we will see how the new ones hold up.
Its slow stock. I bought my xmaxx just for upgrading and breaking lol. I love wrenching. It's a toy truck. Everyone has fun differently. To me upgrading is just as fun as driving it.
Hit the nail on the head, sometimes ya gotta leave them alone, and just buy stock parts if needed, some traxxas models are ABSOLUTELY PERFECT the way they are! Good video brother
I appreciate this video. I have several arrma 3s cars in my household and they’re all amazing. Once you learn how to tune and set it up, the only weak spot tends to be a $5 spur gear.
One of the MOST LOGICAL, informative, fact based RC-Vidz that I have watched! I wish this could be viewed by the masses in order to help kill off this monstrous misconception of "Never Good Enough" and this would unequivocally save many people from going down the rabbit hole of madness chasing the weak link! 🙏GREAT VIDEO brother!
For bashers it seems more important to make sure everything is maintained, and fixed immediately when something is broke or out of align. I took your advice and added the limiting straps and aluminum rear chassis brace first thing though (Erevo). It's been solid, thank you for that. The cold is a killer though.
The X-Maxx is a beast out the box for sure! However if you want to race around a track do flack flips/front flips or just be able to keep all four wheels on the ground then upgrades are a must. Nothing fancy....I use Hot glue for strength instead of buying aluminum EVERYTHING. Great Video!
Your right about added weight but honestly in my opinion with trenchers and a Max5/800kv system it’s a complete beast. Have yet to break anything on our Xmaxx with the max 5 combo.
Agree with you 100%. As for for running gear, almost all my RTRs stay stock. I do upgrade tires and wheels on my crawlers and no prep drag cars for grip and performance, but I don't really see the need to seemingly "upgrade everything" on my RCs, especially bashers. My Maxx and X-maxx are all stock too. I get its part of the fun, but at the same time, so much is unnecessary to do in my opinion in order to enjoy actually driving it.
Stock everything on all my cars minus servos. Amazingly I spend more time driving then sitting around waiting on parts. My experience says the less you screw with these things the better they work and less they break.
@@natehage7919 I don’t need a product to be “my own”. I just want a great product that performs well and is reliable. And I try to buy products that achieve that - as much as possible - right out of the box.
This sounds amazing but for us first gen 6s xmaxx owners not the case. The version xmaxx hes running is upgraded. The revo first gen brushless version versus the 2.0 is a good example. The esc was not good for that size truck and could catch fire. Traxxas sent me the fuse link to fix it myself incase it caught fire lol. I added mamba monster x esc in my xmaxx instead and put the xmaxx esc in my summit. I broke so many gears on stock motor because it didnt have the cush drive yet. Went through axles and diffs as well plus tires sucked and would pop. The motor needed a fan cause it would get hot as shit and was underpowered for the trucks weight. On the other hand I do agree on the modding it as it has become a shelf queen after I did mod it with the leopard 5892 1340kv. How some people run the 58113 800kv motor is insane to me. I went through a lot of steel gears cause I never heard of using loctite on the motor shaft so the pinion would slip and go the edge leaving little contact surface. If you compare the newer versions of these it has bigger axles, better esc, better motor, better tires, better transmission, cush drive and better diffs. I kinda wanna a video just to show the opposite spectrum but at the same time agreeing with some of the breaks that come with it even though in stock form the right person can break anything.
You don't break anything buddy because you drive it and jump it quite conservatively and are happy with standard product and mediocrity! Thats fine. Some people like 40 yr old transams and others like Hellcats or twin turbo'd chevs! I guarentee my xmaxx is twice as strong and twice as fast and my 100ft jumps eclipse most of everything you do. All good though buddy, horses for courses and each to their own. Each to their own tho.
@@Cornelius456 I have a 600 hp bmw dude I know what modifications consist of. Kevin talbot even says the Xmaxx is damn near perfect out of the box with the exception of the servo. Hell even mine went out within a couple months. You’re talking as if people aren’t allowed to modify things
I feel your right. It's tuff out of the box. The only thing that sucks is the steering survo. It's a plastic gear cheep piece of sh#t. For the price of $100 you can upgrade to the 2085X which it should have came stock on it for the huge price of the Xmaxx!! Great Video!
My XMAXX is still bone stock. When the servo breaks I will replace it with the 1/5 scale servo, and when the motor eventually dies, I will figure out what to replace it with. It a blast to drive.
Excellent video👍🙂 I definitely had this problem when building my Arrma Kraton v4 6s Piece by piece. I did this so I could put the upgraded parts on it that I wanted🤔 I have over $2000 into this truck and it is bad-ass don't get me wrong. I am constantly tearing up differential parts😒 I basically built a very powerful lead sled☹ Wish I would have just bought a stock one it would probably be more fun.
You make the videos I wish I could make. Your passion for rc's is how I feel. Brilliant content and I agree re: chasing the upgrades is an endless battle. I may be buying my first traxxas, the sledge. Most of my rc's are arrma. Thanks for sharing. Love your videos. John
I firmly believe that if you want to go faster etc for example, just run another car out of your collection that is better suited for higher speeds. If you take some of the cheaper cars around they will do say 30-35 mph, if you upgrade the same car with massive power to do 60mph. It wont last long before you start constantly breaking parts or huge crashes. Again leave that car pretty much stock & run it within its limits with out breaking it constantly, then swap to a more suitable car that is built to run consistently at the higher speed without breaking it or crashing it every time its run. I think minor upgrades are good to improve durability on some vulnerable parts are ok, but to spend fortunes upgrading a car seems crazy. Especially when you know you are pushing something beyond its capable limits.
Great video thanks! I bought a second hand X-maxx that came with a bunch of upgrades like Duratrax tires. After watching this I am going to get some stock tires for it
I agree 100%. I have around 13 RCs, including an Xmaxx. I never got caught up upgrades and mods. I keep it simple. I charge my batteries, I bash my cars, I break shit, I fix shit, repeat process.
I only upgraded to Badlands because I blew a stock tire. Truck is perfect! Only ever broke a shock cap when it was new. Wheels/Tires and RPM Arms is all that has ever been upgraded after that.
I agree alot with what was said. I will say however it depends on how your running your truck. Three of us bought Xmaxxes and we live in a very wet area. Two of us ripped our tires within 3 runs. Others have commented that the stock tires do not work well in the wet but I really don't understand why. We all switched to prolines and while they are heavier we have had no issues and we run the trucks hard on a a bmx track. Other than the tires my truck is stock.
Great vid, as always! I don't think though, that the stock servo is too weak, I think the spring in the servo saver is too soft. I upgraded to the heavy duty X-Maxx servo from Traxxas (2085X). It also ships with a harder spring for the servo saver. This made a huge difference in the handling of that beast. I also upgraded to the threaded hinge pins from RPM and the Oversized Rear Axle Carriers. They come with much bigger bearings (RPM 81732). These are all the upgrades the X-Maxx needs imho. Gotta love that RC! Cheers from Switzerland.
@@outsourcedrc You need the 2085X. It is a beast! You can steer under power really well. I run belted bead lock badlands with a 2085X. It turns amazing.
Oh finally another Swiss RC enthusiast! I have a Mini E-Revo myself with a good bunch of upgrades (metal hollow balls, stiffer springs and GTR shocks, RPM front arms and bumper, Summit rear suspension arms, wheelie bar, motor heat sink, shimmed, re-oiled and re-greased diffs, etc.). Where do you run your car, any tracks in your region ? There's not much here between Geneva and Lausanne...
THANK YOU! I love my X-MAXX stock, I bought the proline badlands ran it a few times and switched back to stock, the badlands are awesome and very responsive but I prefer the spongier chaotic feel of the stock tires. Great honest vid. *I did get the proline brute bash body.
I have this feeling with the regular Maxx. I do think that changing the gearing is a worthwhile upgrade for the X-Maxx after seeing the videos of the difference. I don't see the point in most of the other upgrades though. I am doing WIdeMaxx on my Maxx and putting lights on it because I play with my cars after dark during the fall, winter, and sprint.
Thank you for posting this. I'm a huge fan of my 8s X-Maxx and really feel it's very near 100% out of the box. Traxxas really did hit the nail on the head with the 8s version and it's Huge fun. Everyone should aim to get one. And you're so right about the whole upgrade "hole" so many people dig for themselves. Only thing I've done with my X-Maxx is the rear RPM hub carriers, as I got sick of blowing the inner bearings and the servo saver mod with the slightly longer bolt through the servo saver with a nut on the other end. no more dodgey steering.. even the steering servo is still stock. Oh and nearly forgot... 50wt shock oil all round. Makes it handle the bigger jumps and general drivability quite a lot nicer I feel. It's stock everywhere else. Also found through lots of "internet research" if you use good quality Lipos, the ESC is very reliable too.
Enjoyed the video. Only thing I have done to mine is install the included speed spur. Definitely recommend doing that. It makes backflips extremely easy. Still a wheelie monster, lots of fun.
Thanks for getting back to basics with your Traxxas cars. May not be as controversial as your arrma videos but your video posted is why I love you man. I’ve upgraded my shocks and wheels and light kit. Great car.
Depends on the wheels, the louise and madmaxx tyres work fine without changing anything. They are a bit bigger than stock, but they dont weight much more. Unlike the proline wheels which are about double the weight of stock 😅
I have the 1st gen 6s x maxx I got when it first came out. I only bent one shock shaft on it since new. Last year I bought an 8s x maxx and have been through one stock esc, proline trenchers, proline badlands and the duratrax hatchet x. The prolines destroyed the gears in 2 servos. The duratrax were the lightest of the 3 but still had to upgrade to the metal gear servo for 100-bucks. Now I’m breaking arms. Sometimes it’s best to just leave things stock. I agree this is the case with the x maxx.
You are right my friend. I don't have the XMAXX, but I have the Badlands on my 1/8 Summit, and they are way heavier than stock for a tire that's the same size.
I think it all depends on how you drive it/ bash it. Some people bash the hell out of it and then break thinks to then upgrade it to stop it breaking while bashing the hell out of it. I've wanted an xmaxx for over 10 years and still not bloody got one. Yet here I am watching every youtube Xmas video. Sunday i may go get one. Just a lot of cash to hand over and thats what puts me off. Keep up the good videos
Couldn’t agree with you more. Had badlands on my erevo 2.0 and it blew rod ends apart every single run. Pivot balls were no match either. Learned my lesson!
@@reidisaacson9623 it affects it in such an infinitesimal way you’re full of shit if you think youll be telling it jumps six inches lower. And more weight trade off for the better traction, durability and control these give you is a welcome trade off. Use your light ass tires. Do the wheelie and don’t put the power to the ground. I’ll beat you every time.
Big fan of your videos. My daughter and I have MERVs and have become more responsible owners with your example. Keep up the good work and follow your gut. We like the direction your channel is going and your excitement comes through wonderfully.
makes a lot of sense. I put Tekno metal axles and aluminum shock caps on my stampede and have had almost no problems with that truck at all ever since.
Not gunna lie, your yard looks spot on to my Uncles place in Michigan, lol no to put you on blast that's crazy but I just pick up a scrap box with an X Maxx in it and am piecing it together, so thanks for the advice, great content dude, keep it up
Thanks for this video! I’m about to buy my first xmaxx. I’ve been waiting for years to get my hands on one. I’ve finally saved money to get one. I think stock will be plenty of fun for me. Considering I’ve only driven 3s 1/10 vehicles! I’m so excited!!
Nice video. I agree. I have 10 year old 3.3 T-maxx and Revo. All stock. Quick. Durable. Wheelies on demand. Original motors. Others I bash with wonder why they can't do wheelies, why they cook clutches and gears, why they break driveshafts, why their motors overheat, etc. I tell them because they added way to much weight with "Upgrades." When I get an X-maxx, it will stay stock too.
Only upgrades worth while on Xmaxx is 1) Servo. Doesn't add weight but a pretty big upgrade for turning. Traxxas offers a direct drop in replacement servo for this truck. 2) oversize axle carriers by RPM. Doesn't add weight but increase load bearing potential if you're an extreme basher. Huge jumps etc. 3) ESC if and when your stock one breaks. Max 6 drops right in. Again, only after stock breaks. If it does.
The badlands cause my pinion gear to come loose. It holds up better with stock tires when jumping. I use the stock wheels for stunts and the badlands when it's snowing or the yard is really wet. Also, the stock tires last longer if you cover the breathing hole on the inside of the rim.
By the time I pay for a lot of upgrades, I could have bought a new RC instead, which I generally do. The plastic is flexible and lasts. Perhaps a couple of effective upgrades
great video i bought a x-maxx 1 year ago and its still stock and my maxx its still stock i got different tires but the rest of the maxx still stock thanks for the video
I bought mine used (it was 2 years old, still stock) I kept blowing rear wheel bearings so I did the RPM wheel bearing upgrade. (No issues since) then the ESC died, upgraded to Max6 (no issues since) and then my servo died. Upgraded for the stronger Traxxas servo (no issues since) I’m fairly certain that this is all you’ll ever need to upgrade on your Xmaxx... everything else only breaks if you hit something wrong.
I agree except for one thing. I always change the bearings for acer for about 12 years now. The bearings are the best upgrade to any rtr and doesn’t make you chase breaks
Wait for arrma to drop the 1/5 kraton exb if your looking at that because the current kraton 1/5 is a huge disappointment without dumping big money into it I have a 1/8 notorious and just picked up an xmaxx I love my arrma but the 1/5 scale aren't quite there yet although the outcast is pretty cool I was really tempted by it but waiting for them to work out a few bugs
Nothing wrong with stock and very little mods or upgrades. If it works for you then rock it! I run a max6 on my stock 8s motor with duratrax hatchet x wheels, rear rpm bearing carriers, shock covers, modded the servo saver spring so it was a little tighter, and put upgraded steel pinion and spur
@@Todd_G_FPV no only thing I did was change the ESC and now I’ve been having brownouts with my throttle. I’m wondering if it has anything to do with my LCV
2.2lbs more is all 4 badlands weigh compared to the stock wheel and tire package. It really just depends on how you use your XMaxx as to if the badlands hurt the truck. Great truck and great tires.
XMaxx 3+years old all stock except ESC, original failed 6 months ago. Now 8s model with Traxxas upgrade program! Tough, straight, ORIGINAL!!! Love this machine
I think your right upgrades do often lead to some issue or some breakage. I have kept my Xmaxx stock besides the max6. I upgraded to that esc as my truck was an original Xmaxx 6S and I upgraded it to 8S spec conversion. That and I run the RPM oversized rear bearing carries and I’m going to get the new front carriers. I also have RPM front and rear bumper supports. But that is all pretty minimal for upgrade. Just realistic upgrades
First off , you lucky guy with NO snow on the ground and get to drive your rc's !!! LOL Love this comparison , I've had my Xmaxx for 3 1/2 years and knew about NOT putting on the heavier tires , hence why mine has stayed together !! LOL Couldn't agree with you more about this truck being durable . However I believe my ESC is on the way out , so out came my electronics , stay tuned to see what I put in !!!
My brother has a Traxxas Stampede 4x4 that him and I have upgraded to the point that literally the only thing that breaks is the motor shaft. The motor shaft has only broke twice after having been finished with the upgrades in about two years. So probably once a year it breaks. The only other thing that typically happens is the grub screws on the driveshafts back out. Definitely, as you said, we chased the breakages until all that was left was the rotor on the motor. Would put a motor with an 8 mm shaft in it but that is literally impossible to find that fits in a Stampede.
Mine is on its way, should be here tomorrow, the only things I bought for it are shock sleeve's rpm a arms for when they break, and rpm rear bearing carriers for if those break but that stuff I don't think will add much weight at all, loved the video, will definitely sub!
I had to do 3 upgrades over time . The stock esc was causing the truck to lock up had to upgrade esc. Stock servo was not working good installed the upgraded servo. And the third upgrade was a unbreakable body
I agree with everything you said in this video. However, I highly recommend that you try out the dboots backflips from your Notorious on your erevo 2.0. They are 7g lighter than the stock tires and they completely transformed my erevo 2.0 (especially on dirt) . It has become my go to basher again.
The servo is slow and weak. I found this to be one of the best upgrades I done on mine. The electronics are fine, however upgrading here is definitely a matter of choice, not necessary, I agree. Since I do not bash mine heavily upgrading the motor is awesome,. The power and torque on command makes driving a blast ripping around. So much fun, and the sound from the mod 1.5 gears in such an adrenaline rush. More power turns the Badlands into grass ripping tires. They are a bit on the heavy side. I have found the Duratrax Six Pack X Belted Mounted Tires are a better all around tire. They do not balloon either. I enjoy watching your videos. You do a tremendous job presenting yourself. Thanks!
E Revo 2.0 is not that tough stock. Straps, servos, RPM A arms, HD push rodes, toe links, brace, body savers, motor fans... it needs a lot of things and still not for mindless jumping.
@@iasssen only thing that happened to my e revo was those servos. I got the suspension straps but I never had any problems before that. If a toe link breaks it only a 45 second fix
I completly agree with you! De Xmaxx is great just the way it is. Changing parts that break, just replace the broken parts, do not upgrade! You’ll only break otter parts. A company like Traxxas will have don there homework in the truck. Run it, break it, fix it. I have had 5 Xmaxx truck, and i you ask me the only thing i would upgrade, when the stock one breaks, is the servo. I would upgrade that to the Black metaal geared one. But that is it! Enjoy watching your vids, greating from rippeyrc!
😯 thanks a bunch for keeping it 💯 I just purchased an X Maxx and a Maxx and with your knowledge and expertise I think I’m going to keep them bone Stock other than the Maxx wide kit and maybe the steel CVD’s thanks a bunch
Nice video man. My xmaxx is stock besides the servo and HD arms as well. I think performance on stock tires and power is great. No need for me to upgrade and spend hundreds
If each wheel/tire combo is twice as heavy it’s not that traction is necessarily better just more weight= more friction = seems like better traction. Probably bad on motor as far as heat and definitely servo like you’re saying. Great video I throughly enjoyed it. My Xmaxx is in the mail, first one for me, should be here Tuesday. 👍🏻
Totally agree. My upgrades are pretty limited to just more protection. Rpm rear hubs, dust cover, extra fan, Cvd boots. Did splurge on a savox 2292sg servo so I could put the upgraded traxxas black on my maxx.
We couldn’t keep stock tires on ours, as we kept having blowouts! We put trenchers on and it has been solid ever since. Everything is stock except for machined gears.
how are the trenchers on the xmaxx? i put some belted trenchers on my big rock and they SUCKED. they wouldnt hook up on any surface under any circumstance. I spend $100 on these things and i cant even use them, i just spun in place
I agree. Mine is completely stock minus the upgraded servo and metal servo arm. I beat on it hard and I don’t break it that often. I go threw bumper brackets that’s about it
Stock tires are absolute trash. Even with stock electronics the tires will shred. Upgraded to the max 6 with a 1250 kv HW motor and I’m very pleased. Not too much more than stock, but definitely noticeable. And I run the bad lands. If you want your truck to last, don’t do huge jumps. Really that simple. And the vitavon 20-35 gears are incredible.
This helped me out a lot, I been debating getting e-revo 2.0 vs xmaxx but didn’t wanna have to replace expensive parts on xmaxx all the time so was gonna go to a smaller car. For just playing around and all around fun, would you say the xmaxx is your favorite?
I prefer my revo 2.0 over my xmaxx, but only in some situations. Xmaxx is just a beast for all around fun. The Revo is definitely more sporty and nimble
I've been away from the rc world for a while .
I chose to get a new xmaxx at Christmas

Use 20lb fishing line for helping to stop ballooning. Also do the silicone ear plugs in front & rear differentials- i have no issues after doing that
@@Dingle-Berries wow that was a while ago.
I have done one upgrade that came in handy the aftermarket rear bearing carriers with a larger size inner bearing work great
can u send me the link on amazon?
My wallet said “thank you” for this video!
Agreed.. My wallet just high fived ur wallet !
My wallet said "please don't buy an xmaxx". Booooo.
@@Mrfearknowone 🤣 that’s a good one
This is the approach I took with my 4x4 rustler and what I'm going to be doing with my xmaxx.
I got mine second hand aswell and the guy never told me the foams in two of the tires were shot. Kind of a bummer but I heard the foams weren't good in the stock xmaxx tires. Guess we will see how the new ones hold up.
@@dontplaydumb2352 that's good to hear, I can't stand scammers!
I agree! X-Maxx is excellent stock besides the ESC. Put a Hobbywing Max6 in there and you are good to go. Nice video🤙
Did your throttle cut out after switching to the max 6 I keep having brown outs when I go and stop fast
I bought em and I think they are just fine
For bashers it seems more important to make sure everything is maintained, and fixed immediately when something is broke or out of align. I took your advice and added the limiting straps and aluminum rear chassis brace first thing though (Erevo). It's been solid, thank you for that. The cold is a killer though.
Thats awesome! I'm glad that worked out for you.
You educated me here on this one. Now I know not to upgrade my XMaxx when I get one this summer. Peace and Love..
Traxxas does all the research and builds a great truck and people go screw it up with “upgrades” lol
At the end of the day tho we all have fun upgrades or not each is there own
@@natehage7919 I don’t need a product to be “my own”.
RC cars are like real cars, the more you "upgrade" the more stuff breaks, found this out long ago
Not really hinpinshmod on xmaxx makes allt more durable a Bolt and a nit to gold The arm togheter
I think the only upgrade necessary would be a max6 in my opinion! Love the video!! I just got a xmaxx two weeks ago! Love it!
I know that feeling
Awesome insight
You are right, people go upgrade crazy!
XMAXX is great out the box if you drive it the way it was meant to be driven.
I bet that spring would kill the stock servo. I may look into getting that servo just to test it out.
Don’t forget the traxxas 2087X servo gear upgrade.
I'll try that
Thanks for getting back to basics with your Traxxas cars. May not be as controversial as your arrma videos but your video posted is why I love you man. I’ve upgraded my shocks and wheels and light kit. Great car.
The turning is a combination of traction and weight. So if you upgrade the tyres you need to change the driving style, suspension setup, servo etc. :D
I say this on every post I see. Those tires are just too heavy.
That’s the dumbest thing ever. It’s an rc car. Unsparing weight means nothing.
@@peterk814 More weight, you're not going as fast nor are you jumping as high. Plus a heavier tire means more stress on the drivetrain

I have them on one of my Xmaxx and I agree. stock tires work great.
Nice video.
Just now catching this video. I have an XMaxx due to arrive tomorrow and this video makes me happy :)
You are going to love it!
I enjoy breaking the car and fixing it.
Only upgrades worth while on Xmaxx is
1) Servo.
At the end of the day pick and choose when and what is necessary for upgrades. Some are needed and some are not. The XMaxx is a beast stock for sure.
I agree. I run my Xmaxx totally stock.
I agree except for one thing. I always change the bearings for acer for about 12 years now. The bearings are the best upgrade to any rtr and doesn’t make you chase breaks
I've had mine for 2yrs and everything is still stock
How often have you used yours? Im debating between the xmaxx and kraton, both 1/5 scale

Well said! Got rid of my 2wd Rustler trying to make it into something it's not, and my "stock" buggies just run.
Enjoyed this video and your perspective on upgrades.
Thanks!
It snows like, one day every two years here, but it seems to rain all the time for the last two years
My brother has a Traxxas Stampede 4x4 that him and I have upgraded to the point that literally the only thing that breaks is the motor shaft.
Thanks! I’ve been looking at the RPM carriers also.
I had to do 3 upgrades over time . The stock esc was causing the truck to lock up had to upgrade esc. Stock servo was not working good installed the upgraded servo. And the third upgrade was a unbreakable body
My revo had a mind of its own and would start creeping forward just like your Xmx Once I did a re-bind with the remote/receiver, never happened again.
Nice bashing and information, awesome RC and have a great weekend
Thanks! You too!
The stock servo isnt strong enough to overcome the extra centrifugal force of the spinning proline tyres due to greater weight.
I agree with everything you said in this video. However, I highly recommend that you try out the dboots backflips from your Notorious on your erevo 2.0. They are 7g lighter than the stock tires and they completely transformed my erevo 2.0 (especially on dirt) . It has become my go to basher again.
lol that would make a great video
I totally agree. As soon as I started adding aluminum and bigger wheels I’m not able to keep it running, returning to stock where it was perfect
Awesome ! I see people do this all the time. Its a lesson well learned.
Thanks!
Appreciate the videos brother. Thank yiu for the work and time you put into all of them.
I appreciate you watching! Thanks a lot
Good to know. I will pay attention to similar things when deciding to update tires in E-Revo 2.0
Thanks! And Hi!
😯 thanks a bunch for keeping it 💯 I just purchased an X Maxx and a Maxx and with your knowledge and expertise I think I’m going to keep them bone Stock other than the Maxx wide kit and maybe the steel CVD’s thanks a bunch
I'm actually going to take the wide maxx kit off the Maxx. I have a video about it comign up when I have time.
Well, it’s the tread pattern that makes the badlands so grippy.
Totally agree. My upgrades are pretty limited to just more protection. Rpm rear hubs, dust cover, extra fan, Cvd boots. Did splurge on a savox 2292sg servo so I could put the upgraded traxxas black on my maxx.
How's that servo handle? I have a 2085X, but a stronger second couldn't hurt
Really good guy doing an honest opinion appreciate that salute to you
This helped me out a lot, I been debating getting e-revo 2.0 vs xmaxx but didn’t wanna have to replace expensive parts on xmaxx all the time so was gonna go to a smaller car. For just playing around and all around fun, would you say the xmaxx is your favorite?
I prefer my revo 2.0 over my xmaxx, but only in some situations. Xmaxx is just a beast for all around fun. The Revo is definitely more sporty and nimble
I like the E Revo 2.0 more. The Xmaxx is fun though. You cant go wrong with either one.
