Love it, James. The flip back to Garmin should be interesting as you seem to really enjoy your Ultra. I just did the opposite, tested out a Fenix 7 Pro and now flipping back to my Ultra 2. Then again, I’m not planning a 100km run! Would be interesting to see how you setup the watch, which one you’re using and why, etc. Great stuff as always!
It’s an interesting one but yes, it’s combination of said battery life but also I love the look of the features and software etc / training plans within the Garmin ecosystem and also, just love the look of the fenix 8 51mm with the brushed steel (more like a watch!). That said , the awu 2 is a brilliant watch - very cool ..
Thanks Ben .. will dm you re the back yard thing - annoyingly I can’t now, a clash of my mother in Somerset and daughters football tournament! Speak soon. Hope all is well..
Great video as always, James! I'm planning on doing my first ever 50K the first weekend of May, so starting my training plan soon. I've done plenty of half-marathons, so not too worried, but you're absolutely right: structure and supporting body weight exercises (calisthenics) are crucial. Glad to be along for the journey!
That’s great . Think the concepts are fairly simple but that doesn’t mean easy! Steady progress, key workouts and yes, supported by other exercises etc. good luck …
Looks good James. Looking forward to seeing how you get on getting back to more running. Seems you have a good plan sorted out. Nice to see the progress with the Pups. Good to hear you are getting on with the Topo MTN racer 3, I am really enjoying them as well.
Thanks Innes. Yes, thought you’d appreciate the more running stuff again! Love the dogs - the house feels back to normal… hopefully get them out running soon! Cheers for the feedback as always
Nice video and plans for your training. I'm attempting my first 100k in the summer (Race to the Stones) so hoping to carry my fitness through the summer from my spring marathon which I'm currently training for. I did a 50 mile race last year, and like yourself I neglected the speed work just concentrating on building endurance, getting the double long runs in at the weekend, but all at a very slow pace. This got me around the course but my fitness actually dropped during the training. I shall be following a program more like yours this time, with track intervals and a weekly tempo, as well as the long slow runs to build endurance. Good luck for your training.
Great stuff and thanks. That’s a good race too, RTTS… and yes, the speed sessions are key to keep the fitness balanced - but clearly the long run is the most important . Good luck with the training
Sounds like a good plan you've got there James and the Isle of Wight race will be great. Pretty cool to go around the whole island, it's definitely on my list for some time in yhe future. All the best for this year
Thanks mate. Yup. I’ve done the Isle of Wight 2.5 times before … both 100kms were good but never felt I finished strong, it was more of a pathetic crying crawl!

I’m in my taper week now for Sunday’s half marathon of Bergamo, Italy. I’m half way of my marathon prep for Milan marathon on April 6th.
Sounds great .. good luck for the half and enjoy the rest of the process for the Milan marathon. Thanks Willem
You are lucky to live near trails....
