What a gift!! What a heart!! What a compassion!! What a great human being. We wish you all the best. Hope these young Drs will bring their bests to their communities one day.
After googling, the university's tuition fee is about 200,000 for 4 years. That means her 1B donation can cover 5000 degrees. It's a lot, but it's not forever. Happy for the students
Your point is well taken. If they invest the $1 Billion in a fund and use the profits to cover tuition it might last a bit longer. And if graduates also give back to the school then it might sustain it further. :)
Happily; that’s incorrect; the money will be invested and properly managed and continue to grow, literally forever. Huge amounts of money properly invested will make a huge amount of money forever.
It makes SOOOOO happy to see these smart and hardworking college students be in joy, especially knowing that someone does care about them and their future. My only hope is that when do become successful, that will carry the torch and do the same for other future college students. 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

In theory yes, but as we’ve seen w NYU, this doesn’t actually lead more people to choose primary care. Practically, it just means the future dermatologists, cardiologists, radiologists, etc etc, will just not have student loan debt --so effectively the rich just get richer. A few other schools have been tuition free even before NYU, and the same trend persisted
It´s a bit shocking that there has to be a private donation to get this... Education systems aroudn the world can do so without any donations... Strange thing...
yeah well, in most other western countries college and university education is considered a basic right and is free anyway, so... good job for having a single comparable college to the rest of the world...
LOL! Get Out of your American bubble. I live in Germany, Here is studying for Everbody free. What ist the next Thing youre proud of? Your medical system?! 😂😂 USA is a f*cking 3rd world country... The whole world is laughing at you.
''Beautiful country'' sure, most of Europes countries already have free or super low cost education, as its seen as a basic human right.. The USA is not beautiful by any means.
Sorry, I can't hear you over your American exceptionalism. Also as others have pointed out, many countries around the world have free tuition to begin with, so they don't have to rely on the whims of random rich people.
Its not really free someone will pay for it, the usual suspect wuld be the tax payers. Not unless the faculty and whole school staff will work for free, but as long as they are receiving tgeir salaries ans school spend for maintenance? Someone is goin to pay for those expenses. The correct term is their tuition has been payed by the tax payers.
@artistaroundtheblock2047 so someone did pay for it, she paid for it thus my point! it not free because she needs to pay. People should stop abusing the word "Free" because someone somehow has to pay. She simply should have said you don't have to pay because i paid it for you. In this world we can only count things that's truly free, the air we breath is free but not when you're sick though.

So many people who are passionate in the medical field cannot pursue that career because of how high tuition is, so many potential doctors, physicians and nurses lost because of the money grab college is. And even for the people who pay tuition, they are stuck repaying loans even after retirement. This is something we should be striving for, if we want more people in these fields we need to make tuition more accessible for everyone. Whoever donated that 1B just changed the lives of an entire community.

Hope all the doctors from this college will pass this generosity to their patients and the cycle will continue.

The amount of pressure that will be lifted from these students, both during their studies and afterwards, is immense.
Why do I feel like I am one of those medical students for I too felt so happy and excited hearing the gift from Mrs. Ruth.
God bless you all.

Saw that too, he s even wearing the surgeon gown
He's dressed as staff to I think he probably knew in advance what she was about to announce and just couldn't hold back his reaction for much longer.

Anything with medicine, yes! All the rest, no! People that will be saving lives deserve it! Not some liberal arts degree…

Nothing is free. Someone somewhere is paying for it either with higher taxes or higher prices of goods.
