🇫🇷 La soul de @mrjacobbanks est nourrie d'influences vintage et africaines. Un métissage sûrement dû à son parcours personnel : l’artiste est né au Nigéria avant de s’installer en Angleterre pendant son adolescence. Cette hybridité donne à la musique du soulman un caractère autant épique que chaleureux. Ajoutez à ceci des textes très personnels et des influences hip-hop et obtenez de véritables tubes.
Jacob Banks s'est pourtant mis à la musique sur le tard. En effet, c'est à vingt ans seulement que le jeune homme se lance dans l'apprentissage de la guitare et de l'écriture. Un côté autodidacte qui explique en partie le côté brut de décoffrage - et terriblement sincère - de ses compositions.
Après avoir filmé Jacob Banks au Pop-Up du Label (Paris) en 2017 puis en Release Party en 2019, c’est en mode festival que nous retrouvons le Britannique ! A Montreux, l’artiste démontre toute la richesse de ses deux premiers albums : Village et Lies About the War.

🇩🇪 Die Soulmusik von Jacob Banks schöpft aus Vintage-Sounds und afrikanischen Einflüssen - eine Mischung, die sicherlich auf seine Biografie zurückzuführen ist: Banks wurde in Nigeria geboren und kam als Jugendlicher nach Großbritannien. Dieser Hintergrund verleiht der Musik des Soulman Tiefe und Wärme zugleich. Dazu gesellen sich sehr persönliche Texte und HipHop-Einflüsse, die seine Stücke zu echten Ohrwürmern machen.
Dabei kam Jacob Banks relativ spät zur Musik: Erst mit 20 Jahren begann der junge Mann, Gitarre zu lernen und seine eigenen Songs zu schreiben. Diese autodidaktische Vorgehensweise erklärt zum Teil den etwas ungeschliffenen - aber dafür grundehrlichen - Charakter seiner Kompositionen.
Nachdem Konzertmitschnitten im Pariser Restaurant Le Pop-Up du Label 2017 und bei der Release Party 2019 trifft ARTE Concert den Briten nun beim Montreux Jazz Festival. Dort präsentiert der Künstler die musikalische Vielfalt seiner beiden ersten Alben „Village“ und „Lies About the War“.

Sadly, I am new to this experience called Jacob Banks. Only one other time that I had instant connection to an artist's first note, the authenticity. The first and only time this happened was when I first heard Amy Winehouse. I adore this man. I feel blessed to have found him. Better late than never ❤

His name is Daniel Byrne. It’s interesting that Daniel Byrne’s talent was especially revealed in his work with Jacob Banks. However, Jacob Banks himself sounded completely new with Daniel.
