    Andy, Many years ago I had a 66 Mustang fastback I took fishing on the gulf a lot, the trunk floor was the gas tank top, it spot rusted through, I was building boats at the time, I fiberglassed the trunk floor/gas tank top, no more problems, I did the same some years later on a diesel Chevy Suburban fuel tank, put another 100 thousand miles on it, sold it, both never gave another leak problem. Always amazed at all you do, can't believe you take a turn at feeding at 3 am. I'd teach another to climb/maintain the silo!!!!

    I'm a little embarassed to say that I almost killed myself putting air to a backhoe fuel tank.
    The tank was mounted on a backhoe. Over time from people filling it in the field dirt and contaminants had gotten into it. One day after changing the fuel filter or filters, Mr Thorough (that's me) had the great idea to drain it and as the drain cock was open I put an air line to it to blow "everything", all dirt out through the drain.
    The only air I had was from about a 2 inch line.
    (No problem, not what you may think) I didn't put an air tight seal between the hose and the tank.
    I blew the tank fluids and dirt out of the drain as I had planned. But when I pulled the air line back from the ~2" filler spout, there was a noticeable "boom" and blue smoke. I wasn't blowing into the tank with an airtight seal, not at all. But the volume of air that I was putting in was just enough apparently to cause the fuel vapors to combust. How else can anyone explain the blue smoke. If that tank had ruptured or blown apart I was right up against it. Go figure.
    I'm putting this out there so that no else will put diesel under pressure with an air line. It doen't take as much pressure as you may think to gt it to go boom. I don't care what the stoichiometric numbers and formulas say or predict. I saw blue smoke and there was bang.

    We have a place in our area that coats the inside of fuel tanks hides alot of pinholes

    • @Rcod2013
      @Rcod2013 5 месяцев назад +2

      Why not coat outside as well. Will last for decades then.

    • @Drottninggatan2017
      @Drottninggatan2017 5 месяцев назад

      One can imagine that if you coat the inside and the metal rust away, then all what is holding the fuel in is the coating at some point.

    I know the DOT may not like it, but with all the things you fabricate you could probably build a very nice fuel tank for the fertilizer truck. I know we have made truck air tanks from time to time when we couldn't find the right size.

    Wonder why so many farmers have to fix or remodel things on new John Deere planters ?

    • @dsmreloader7552
      @dsmreloader7552 5 месяцев назад +8

      Because every farmer is trying to get that last bushel per acre from their fields and that all starts with the planter and how consistently it gets the seed in the ground. Kinda like a golfer spending several hundred dollars every couple years on a new driver to get another half yard of drive or fewer slices and hooks.. and it isn't just JD, the farmers with other brands do the same thing.
