Tip from experience. Keep your big motor down all the way while using the trolling motor. Wind won't blow u around so much and way easier to maneuver. Stern won't blow around on ya
The whole time she's approaching that trailer I was saying "trim it up, trim it up!". Everyone does that kind of stuff... either in a hurry or just new. You can also lift the front of the boat over the trailer runners and let it settle down if the motor is trimmed up sometimes if you're off center. Great video... we all learn and we all learn the hard way sometimes. And that skeg is fine... you're going to do worse than that just running around the lake.
I am so close to being as stoked as you were. It brought tears to my eyes seeing how damn happy you were catching that first fish. I cant wait for that feeling! Congrats on the new boat brother! Ill be keeping up with your videos
Looks like I'm about 2 years late to the party here but regardless, if I didn't know better, I'd say you guys were fishing Lake Crockett. If so, that can sometimes be a squirrelly boat ramp to load a boat, even for long-time boat drivers, regardless of the conditions.
This reminds me of my favorite fishing trip with my grandpa he did everything he could to out fish me I caught the biggest, the smallest, and the most he was so proud and mad at the same time 😂😂
Happens to the best of us man! I actually just did that myself for the first time in over 30 years of running boats the other day. Similar situation. Weather and wind coming in and everybody headed in. Got to the dock, tied up and killed the engine. Right when I went to raise the outdrive and go get the truck, another boater's engine died as he was waiting to come in. I was about to push back off the dock and go assist. Thankfully he got his motor fired back up but my routine was disrupted. Pulled the boat out, slowly as usual and felt my skeg hit the ramp before I heard it. However, just like you did, I stopped immediately as soon as I heard it, felt it and my buddy started yelling STOP!!! Drug my skeg about 6". Thankfully it came free easily and didn't have any damage. But I also have a stainless steel skeg guard. Little tip. I generally put my boat on the trailer by hand, especially in shit weather. Eliminates a lot of opportunities for Murphy's Law. That and once you get a system down, you'll be faster by hand. I can get my boat on the trailer and pulled out faster by hand than folks who drive on their trailers. I always get it on right the first time too. Give it a shot.
If you don't have one, you need a transom saver. A bar that extends to the trailer taking the weight of the motor off your transom when transporting. Not very expensive.
That's a better trailer than the one I have for my Crestliner. Mine only has two long bunks and are fairly far separated so it doesn't line up well when I try to get the bow onto the bow roller.
If my skeg looked like that I would be thrilled. Everyone does that at least once when loading, usually you think it is trimmed up enough but it isn't and you don't know until you pull up.
It happens to almost every first timer, you can buy a skag at bass pro, you have to drill a couple of holes that you put Allen Head conectors in that hold the skag in place.its not very expensive plus its crome.
The joys of being a boat owner, you gotta have a first for all good things and bad things. lol this is just one bump in the road and sometimes its nice to get it out of the way. When you fall off the horse you gotta get back up! Good luck and good videos coming I know Tight lines brother!
You got that over and done with, your first ding!! Devon did a good job for her first time loading onto the trailer. Wow the wind was wicked. Find a little windsock just for loading on windy days. It will help you and give us viewers an idea how bad it is. It’s cool that you can mount a trolling motor on the bow or stern of your yaks! I too would add one to the bow.
If driving the boat onto the trailer is difficult for you guys, try using the trolling motor. Make sure you’re holding the handle and that the motor isn’t locked in place. It’s the easiest way for a beginner IMO. Also backing in the trailer a little deeper makes sure your easily all the on the trailer.
Westin Smith I guess that’s the down side to not having a v-haul in the wind. Get blow around like nothing. Conference is key...Practice makes perfect! You guys will have down in few trips. But once the nose of the boat is inside the trailer guards you can winch the boat the rest of the way. Tight lines you guys.
I wouldn't even worry about it get it fixed this winter bud. Its gonna get scraped up even while you fish. You all did a pretty good job for first time boat owners!
All good man, she did an admirable job trailering that boat. Took me a few times to get the hang of it as well. Boat ramps can be quite entertaining ! Nice vid. Enjoy the new rig.
You don't have to be perfect on the trailer. Good enough to hook it up on the bow and pull out. Get to a free spot and rock the back end to pop it on the rungs. Even easier if you have 2 people, beats having to go in and out on the trailer if you are in a hurry.
Don't worry about the small chip. The skeg on my boat is slightly rounded (not much) but still a bit worse than yours. It's just part of fishing/boating shallow. And I'm not even a shallow water fisherman normally.
Great video. I really enjoyed watching it. The foot of your motor took a little beating but not much damage. I have seen a lot more damage to the foot than yours. Keep fishing.
First of all congrats on the new boat. You've just learned the first thing you do after pulling the boat on the trailer is trim up the motor. Those are the kinda things you learn and will remember from now on. Keep those great videos coming.
I just want to let you know I smiled when I saw you catch the first bass on the boat. Been watching your channel for a while now and I love the new boat angles. Keep the grind up! Having a boat is a blessing.
Dont worry about that chip I have a nice bass boat that has hundreds of scratches on the lower unit, it’s just gonna happen. And as long as there’s an inch of blade you can run that sucker all you want!
Weston, Google Skegg Guard.. Stainless steel sleeve. Slides over entire skeg. Bolts down. Covers damage and prevents damage the next time (and there will be a next time) $100
Hey dude, nice to see you finally breaking it out, no pun intended. I whacked my skeg 4 times last year, what you did was just a slight kiss. Unless it is bent, which is highly unlikely, that is a super easy fix! A little JB Weld and a fine file or angle grinder and that thing will be good as new. Seriously, it is so EASY. Pick up a spray can of Tremclad, colour match it and you'll never notice it was ever damaged. I took off almost a third of the skeg on one outing, but unless I told you, there's no way you can tell. Looking forward to your new content, keep it up. BTW, Devin has an awesome smile!! You guys rock.
It happens I rem my first time in my old 17ft Nitro I ran onto a sand bar and gave my lower unit a sand blasting look LOL... Damage isnt all that bad so listen learned. Nice Looking first bass boat Tight Lines
A few tips: for Devin set the hook up so you will have an easier time pulling bass out of the weeds. Invest in a skeg guard and a keel protector as well. Minor things that get damaged all the time! Megaware has some awesome keel protectors as well as skeg guards.
Hey Westin, I noticed you have the RT189. I have a 179c with a 60 on the back. What horsepower is on your boat? I would assume the 115. Does it plane out well? Think I will upgrade to the boat you have, thanks!
I see my boy Westin gettin them views! You deserve everything that’s coming your way bro the channels about to grow even more! Thanks for keeping us entertained in these tough times.
Westin Smith yeah Tyler’s reel fishing has a video on it his transom saber went out while going down the road and his skeg was completely gone but he put that on there and it ran fine so it’s nothing to serious
Here in South Africa we make stainless steel skeg protectors that just bolts onto your skeg that protects it in cases like this, maybe ask your boat shop of they have something like that
Respect for posting a rookie boating video. Sometimes boaters can be super snobby, especially bass folks. Dont worry about the skeg bro, your gonna get dings and blemishes the more you use the ole girl. You can also get a skeg guard if your all that worried going forward
This is awesome Westin, I am really happy for you guys. Your channel has quickly become one of my favorites, the energy you bring is unmatched and now with the new boat you have more options. I definitely see you blowing up in 2020
Uh ohhh! Hype for this boat vid!
It’s a doozy at the end bro 😂🔥
@@WestinSmith name = titanic 2.0 hehehe
Hey got my first bass today I don’t have a scale but I’m guessing it was probably around two pounds. It was awesome.
That’s dope! Congrats!
Westin Smith thanks looking forward to catching many more.
Good job man
Great job
Everybody’s skeg looks like that lol don’t worry about it
Sounds good to me haha
Mine doesn’t..
BOAT actually stands for Break Out Another Thousand.
Haha seems to hold true 😂
Bankruptcy. On. A. Trailer.
Yes unfortunately that's what it stands for unless you are able to get a new one every year like some people
No doubt they are a money pit... but a lot of fun.
Congrats on the boat
Tip from experience. Keep your big motor down all the way while using the trolling motor. Wind won't blow u around so much and way easier to maneuver. Stern won't blow around on ya
Loved seeing how happy both of ya`ll are !
We have all done it .Great job having patients with a new driver
She did great... for her first time putting it back on the trailer in that wind!
The whole time she's approaching that trailer I was saying "trim it up, trim it up!". Everyone does that kind of stuff... either in a hurry or just new. Great video... we all learn and we all learn the hard way sometimes. And that skeg is fine... you're going to do worse than that just running around the lake.
I wouldn’t worry about that. We’ve took about a 3in chip out of ours and was fine. To replace it’s a whole new lower unit
Her mini bass drama was the best!! Made my afternoon!
Don't worry about that little scratch. I was impressed how you were calm and just let herbfetbtge boat on the trailer. She did a good job too.
They got a stainless skeg protector that you can put on boat goes over and bolts to the moter
I am so close to being as stoked as you were. It brought tears to my eyes seeing how damn happy you were catching that first fish. I cant wait for that feeling! Congrats on the new boat brother! Ill be keeping up with your videos

Learning curve. A boat without bruises, is just a garage queen.
Excellent brother. Mad props.
Thank ya
I wouldn’t repair the skeg at all because it will run good and you will ding it on bottom or logs all the time.
As long as it isn't bent, I wouldn't worry about it. Boats gets scratches and dings if you use them. It happens.
You know what BOAT stands for right. Bust Out Another Thousand. Good luck w your first boat.
Hahah I guess so
good video Westin dont worry there many more bumps and scrapes to come being new boaters just enjoy it the new boat.
Thanks Derrick! Will do! Taking her back out today 🤘🏼
This reminds me of my favorite fishing trip with my grandpa he did everything he could to out fish me I caught the biggest, the smallest, and the most he was so proud and mad at the same time 😂😂

Not too worried haha thanks man! 🤘🏼🔥
If you don't have one, you need a transom saver. A bar that extends to the trailer taking the weight of the motor off your transom when transporting. Not very expensive.
She did a good job in those windy conditions. Hundreds of $ damage to the skeg...a file and disc sander for 5 minutes...tada!!
Well I’m going that route then haha
That not damaged just worn in a little.
@@WestinSmith yeah man I honestly wouldn't be super worried about it. My boats way worse hahahaa😂😂
Westin Smith it’s not gonna hurt it tbh we run ours in the river and it’s all scratched up and chipped
That's a better trailer than the one I have for my Crestliner. Mine only has two long bunks and are fairly far separated so it doesn't line up well when I try to get the bow onto the bow roller.
Very cool! That boat is so sweet.
Thank you!

Yesssss it is here! I’ve been waiting for you guys to take the new boat out!!!!!
So have we haha. Was filming with the googans those last 2 days we could have taken it out. Been itching and then again today the weather is TRASH 😂

Not to bad for the first time out....looking forward to some more good content be boat flipping BIGGS soon!!!!
Thanks Reggie! We plan on taking it out tomorrow !!
Y'all did a fantastic job. Happens to everyone hopefully once! Stay safe out there.
Thanks Marco!
Great vid! Sucks to have that happen on the first time out but at least it didn’t damage it too much.

We will in certain cases I’m sure but in that wind the trolling motor wasn’t gonna do it it was whip’n the boat to the right like nothing

Lol i meant to say you guys did a great job
Damn that’s a nice boat! It looks even better in the water!!!!
Thanks Shawn! We need to do some cool walk around shots for sure
Don’t even worry about it bro! Run it, not enough damage to worry about it. Keep the vids coming, congrats on the first catches on the new boat!!
Thank ya! Appreciate the feedback
You can also get a skag protector/cover. Fixed and a lot cheaper.
So I hear. May have to get one
All good man, she did an admirable job trailering that boat. Took me a few times to get the hang of it as well. Boat ramps can be quite entertaining ! Nice vid. Enjoy the new rig.

Beautiful boat it’s soooo fun having a boat and taking it out!!!
Thank you!!
Congrats. First fish on the boat.
Thanks Andrew!
Congratulations on the boat guys, westin you were pretty calm about everything man I need to be more like you. Awesome video

Don’t worry about repairing that I promise you won’t even notice it while I’m the water. My dads 21 ft sleekcraft is missing a good inch on the skeg
Yeah we’ve had many people tell us the same and ain’t gonna mess with it now
Glad to see you got the boat out. Epic fishing. Sorry about the damage. Live and learn. Not to bad. Awesome looking boat Bro.
Damage was light I’d say for first timers haha. Seems to be all good and ready to rip again TOMORROW 🚤
Congrats on the boat man
Thank ya!
Congratulations on catching the first fish on the new boat. 👍may you catch many more. God bless you guys.
Its happen to my boat multiple time no worries it will be fine there made tough sand paper liitle paint never know it happen your in good shape buddy
Hitting the skeg isn't as bad as ripping your entire trolling motor off the deck when you forgot to put it up when trailering at night.
You really need to get a boater safety course bro . You should come fish a tournament with me
I have had skegs that I have taken 50% off. That’s always a bummer but so minor. Awesome boat, looking at one myself.
Thanks for the feedback! We are loving it
Congrats on the new boat man !
Thank you!
Fire 🔥 as always. 😎
Thanks Isaac!
super dope!
Thanks KJ!
Not bad at all, most of them look like that, nothing to worry about
Please tell me you did the break in process for the outboard.....
We’re like a half hour in haha. Video makes it look like we’re flying but we never took it over 4,500 RPM as stated

Thanks Jose! This one is popping!
Y'all are killing it Keep pushing forward Really ENJOY what your doing
Man get a skeg guard from TH Marine, it’s stainless steel and easy to put on, like 45-60 bucks maybe and it’ll protect and save that skeg!
I’ll have to check that out!!!
Those things work wonders
Westin Smith yeah Tyler’s reel fishing has a video on it his transom saber went out while going down the road and his skeg was completely gone but he put that on there and it ran fine so it’s nothing to serious
Congrats on your new boat bro. Lil ding gives it its on personally. Love you guys videos keep up the great work. Tightlines pal👍🏾💪🏾
Good first trip. Lesson learne.
I love that color!! Boat looks sweet dude!
Thanks Sean! Couldn’t be happier !
Congrats on the first bass in the boat!
Thank U! 🙌🏼
They make a stainless steel skeg cover plate that you can put on it and definitely will help!!!
May look into those! Been hearing a lot of comments about it
I subscribed to you for your honesty. A lot of guys be getting these boats acting like they know what they doing lol
Here in South Africa we make stainless steel skeg protectors that just bolts onto your skeg that protects it in cases like this, maybe ask your boat shop of they have something like that
I’ll check, thanks man!
@@WestinSmith i send you a DM on Instagram with an example of what it looks like

I’m picking up my bass boat on Friday can’t wait any advise?
Just take it slow and maybe go out the first time without wind! Make sure the plug is in, trim is up when launching/retrieving, and have some fun 🤘🏼🔥🎣

Thanks! Taking the boat back out today 🙌🏼 let’s see what we can’t get into
That lower unit is fine. File it JB Weld it. 👍
Just bought my first bass boat today can’t wait to get out on the water
Have fun! Maybe Choose a calm day 😂
Y’all did great for your first time out!
Great video! I really enjoyed it! What kind of net are you using?
Those Texas storms come outta nowhere! Glad y’all didn’t chip her up too badly!
