That Basie soundtrack with B & W for that grainy, gritty, hard-boiled flavor makes this detective series best of era. Marvin gets some decent scripts in this, now, the second season.
Gotta love this show. Thanks for posting this.
Thanks for posting this Lee Marvin is my favorite actor of all time. He had tremendous screen presence.
Original music track, Count Basie & Orchestra.
Think I see the inspiration for the intro to "Police Squad."
Yep.
Almost a direct copy! 🙂
Man The whole Police Squad episode was a direct ripoff of this one. Half the time I was hearing the narration in Leslie Nielson's voice in my head...
"Who are you? And how did you get in here?" Drebbin: "I'm a locksmith, and I'm a locksmith."
Music by John Williams - Star Wars Jaws - Indiana Jones - etc etc etc etc etc etc etc ...
Great show. Great star!
More action than Dragnet
I like Dragnet, but I know every single episode, including the later one (1967-1970) as well as the radio Shows. M squad is newer to me, I've seen season one, but not the others.
Dragnet was a snoozer hoping to instill learning in the public. That didn't work as we now have WOKE. Wake up America.
13:00 wish there was a black and white channel of old shows on tv
There are two or three where these kinds of shows are shown incessantly.
Try Tubi and MeTV.
Great series!!
Listening to Lee Marvin and Broderick ('Highway Patrol') Crawford's voices; I'd say they were the inspiration for 'Officer McGruff'.
I love Lee Marvin!
Same ❤
Lee Marvin was a war hero. He was a Marine , 1942-1945 , battle of Saipan.
He also fought in the Marshall Islands campaign. That's where he saw the majority of his combat. He was badly wounded on Saipan in the opening days of that campaign. RIP PFC Lee Marvin, USMC. You still have many, many fans.
4th Marine Division
Bring this show back to tv Bruce 10:15
Gotta love the double tire squeal/skids that are exactly the same in the opening. Efx guy must have been paid per effect.
The only thing missing from that loot bag was a big $ on the outside.
Me tinks mayor Johnson could use M squid on the south side streets nowadays, like Troy st , home of the fabulous Weber brothers 😺
Last words could be more profound than get outta heres😺
Typical move move by Mayor Daley. He and his crew were as crooked as they come..BTW, ex Rat Packer from Oceans Eleven, Richard Benedict, had a small part in this episode.
Can't be easy to go down that ladder with a suitcase in one hand...

Marvin and his partner a trusty cigarette.
2 more every day
Poor quality- impossible to make out what's going on
12:27 perhaps the most horrific song ever composed…
Grow up!
@@r4rifle if you found that song palatable….oh dear.
She deserves a Grammy!
Geez. Lose the horrible subtitles.
You can turn off your subtitles. Not this guys fault.
The late 50's and early 60's was my favorite era.
Indubidubly 🙂
Music, performing arts and most other things MUCH better in those days than the 21st. Century crap we have now!!😮😢
Good show wish it was on now to watch Bruce 7:59
I want that 57 Ford Lee’s driving
That's all we ever see in this series is full size '57 Fords!
Even after is stops , it keeps moving .
Crime show in competition with Peter Gunn at the time. Both shows had music interludes, but in this show the combo music was faked. In Peter Gunn, the musicians actually played live.
Interesting for sure!
I loved Lee Marvin. Passed away young but 3 packs a day will do that to you.
Interesting. A 6 shot revolver, dozens shots fired and never see anyone reload.
I was counting and I think Marvin only fired 4 or 5. Some S & Ws were only 5-shots.
Wonder how much Lee was paid per episode???
he was co-owner of the show. In a 1958 interview, he said he was looking forward to the residuals. I'm not sure how much rerun action this series got, but at least he was thinking like a businessman.
When the one guy was talking, he blows smoke in his face! My parents, relatives, ALL adults blew smoke in my face. Made me sick!🤢
ERNEST CHAPPELL: "PALL MALL FAMOUS CIGARETTES present....."
Life was much better back then.
@@petervitti9 Except for the deadly chain-smoking⚰😂
She has really luxe digs for a nightclub singer.
you can hear that police squd theme music in the end credits
The opening credit music is very reminiscent to the opening music to Police Squad with Leslie Nielsen.
one of the better episodes.
it's difficult to get a show like this to work in a half hour format.
Is this Emmy nominated series out on DVD?
57 nomad turning left
😃Thank you 👍
hillsdale edu is a sham
Interesting. Not a lot of cops in the fifties took a shooting stance with both hands on the gun, or at least used both hands to control it. Lee Marvin was ex-military but I don't know if that's where he picked it up. I've seen WWII training videos of soldiers shooting the 1911 pistol one handed so maybe not.
Police revolvers were notoriously inaccurate even with two hands.
See that thumbnail? That's how you fire a handgun, my brothers.
That was a pretty good express elevator serie. You can watch it between two floors (well almost).
The ending was too dry and boring.
Did Lee just shot an unarmed man in the back?
23:59 - this is the moment that was captured as the thumbnail image for the video. He has a very unorthodox way of looking down the sight of his pistol when he shoots. He shoots right-handed, and uses his right eye to look down the gun, which is proper. But he turns his head to the right so that his right eye is off to the side, and his squinted left eye has the predominant position, which is weird. Turning his head to the right like this pushes the bridge of his nose, and his furrowed brow due to squinting, into the line of sight he needs for his right eye, to line up the sights on his gun and aim. Seems like that would intrude onto his scope of vision......
Lee Marvin always had an unorthodox way of holding a weapon.
