Thanks for the video. Parts delivered yesterday and my oil undercoat guy had an earlier appointment open up tomorrow so I had to get it done today. Took the valance off to gain easy access and followed your video pretty easily. Not such a scary job once you see it done.
That is an awesome video. Thanks!! You showed the stuff that is always in question....the details. Tremendously helpful! I just took delivery of my '24 F350. This will be high on the priority list of mods.
Just did my 24 yesterday. Super easy once you trace the whole line down. I needed the whole line kit as well. You still need the short piece as well But i didn’t buy it, I cut hose off the old factory and worked perfect
Great video! Couple of things… I had to rotate the new locking hub to find a spot where it would slide in. Two, my bolts holding the dummy hub in were not very tight. Checked the other side and same. I snugged them up.
Great video. I was able to squeeze under the stock valance and install the line assembly. I don't know if I would have figured out the routing on the passenger side without your video. Thanks!
Colin, thanks for the video. Mine should be an easy replacement since it was a November build date. Can you comment on why to do this? Would it help my gas mileage since the passenger side axle wouldn't be spinning? Also less wear on that axle???? I'm not planning a lot of off roading but will be towing quite a bit.
Colin, to make it easier could you buy the hose assembly and leave the original line in and cut it where the T goes and add the rest of the new line to the passanger wheel? thanks for the video.
On the passenger side where did you clip the 2nd clip on the line. You have the gray clip closest to the hub then a cream colored one between the two on the bell housing. I can’t find a spot for the cream one to go into. What am I missing.
Just picked up my hub and line today. Just curious. Did you truck come with black lug nuts. Mine is a lariat ultimate with the black out package and it came with chrome lugs. Kind of annoying.
I suppose if they would start using cv joints it wouldn't be a problem, but for some reason those knuckle ujoints just dont live very long when they are turning without power being transferred through them. Just ask a Dodge owner. I dont know how many dodges ive had to replace the ujoint in the knuckle on, super dutys seem to go around 200k miles before you have to replace them. But I would imagine ford did this for convenience, dont have to walk around the truck to lock in the far hub, which you should always do if your already stuck. Ive seen a few of those autohubs strip out from people trying to put it in 4x4 after they already got stuck.
I wonder if the tubing kit applies to the 2024 diesel version as well? Mine is post February so the axle line is gone on mine as well. Very annoying that Ford decided to do this.
All models have the dummy except Tremor models and they have SSM 52423 for grinding noise while driving in 2wd to install the selectable hub lock and vacuum lines
So my 2024 Lariat seems to be different. I have an extra hose that branches off of the vacuum line at the T joint and it goes into the differential? The replacement line does not have this? Can someone help me understand how to proceed here?
@@seijirou302thank you. I figured so I my dealer replaced the hub and hose assembly and short hose no cost under SM warranty …my other 24 f250 diesel goes in for this free service next week!
@@natehawkins2910 Cool. Yeah I just learned there's a warranty repair notice for this, if you complain about hearing noises from the passenger side but it sounds like good dealers are just getting it done on request.
Does anyone know if replacing this dummy hub with a selectable hub impacts your ability to shift on the fly into 4x4? For example, you're cruising down the road at 65 and get caught in a snow storm. Can you still just reach down and shift to 4x4 hi while still driving, or is something going to grenade?
Yes, it will still auto lock like the driver side does. That’s what the vacuum hose is for. Without it, you would have to manually turn the hub to the lock position.
Nice video. Have you checked with your ford dealership? A ford tech on RUclips mentioned they made a service bulletin to add lockers to non tremors. You might be able to get reimbursed your parts cost
There are 2 TSBs related to this issue. One says if there is a grinding noise from the front right, it may be this, and to add the new hub and tubing. The other says the dummy hub is by design, and for Ford not to replace at their expense just because you want to.
Sorry, couldn’t help that. Real reason is Ford puts a locking hub on Tremor is because this trim level comes standard with a limited slip front axle. All other trim levels don’t come stock with limited slip front axles. I don’t know what trim level he has, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum. Just no Tremor trim level.
So my dealership owed me a favor, so i mentioned if they could swap out this hub for me id be a happy customer, the email i got back says its a 1500 to 2000 job with multiple componets needing to be replaced and possibley needs a new front axle lol, my truck was built in march so i would need the entire vacuum line but can anyone confirm the bs im smelling? Its a 6.7 lariat fx4 if that matters
Have to replace the dummy hub with a real hub on the 23/24 trucks when doing a leveling kit. When replacing the hub to a manual/auto hub you need the vacuum line installed
just another way to cut corners and the customers that find out about this dumb shit buy the new hub and hardware themselves i have 2024 f350 just found this out now im buying the parts.

Just did mine thank you very much. I missed one attachment hole but was able to reposition myself for a different view and found it.
Fantastic video - sir appreciate you doing this.
Life saver i would be so confused without this video. Thank you

Great video and the very end made me laugh!
Great video. I was able to squeeze under the stock valance and install the line assembly. I don't know if I would have figured out the routing on the passenger side without your video. Thanks!
Thank you for doing these kind of videos. I don't understand why they would use a dummy hub in the first place. They going for 4x3...

Theoretically better MPG and less wear and tear since you can have both sides not spinning
Nice!! Thanks for video.
How are thoee wild peaks? Looking at the same set. Whats your sizing on them?
Colin, to make it easier could you buy the hose assembly and leave the original line in and cut it where the T goes and add the rest of the new line to the passanger wheel?
thanks for the video.
I suppose anything is possible with the correct fittings. I thought it was pretty cheap and easy to do it with the entire OEM piece
On the passenger side where did you clip the 2nd clip on the line. You have the gray clip closest to the hub then a cream colored one between the two on the bell housing. I can’t find a spot for the cream one to go into. What am I missing.

I added them aftermarket

Where do you get those lug nuts for the wheels?
They are the factor black appearance package wheels

Yes your engine choice won’t make a difference
All models have the dummy except Tremor models and they have SSM 52423 for grinding noise while driving in 2wd to install the selectable hub lock and vacuum lines
Ford now has a service message for intermittent grinding and you can go have them replace it with the hub and vacuum line SSM 52423 under warranty
it says wont be done under warranty if truck has a a level kit or so on it
What do you mean by intermittent grinding, and at what milage?
Thank you I will do the same. Any part numbers?

What’s your build date? Is it a Tremor?
@@colinmitchell536 Sorry did not see this. Not a Tremor. It is a 4x4 Lariat FX4. Build date 02/24
What would happen if you just put in the old version of locking/unlocking hub insert but not connect vacuum line?
the automatic function wouldn't work. You'd have 1 automatic hub and 1 manual hub.

Does it affect the warranty by changing the hub? Thanks for the video!👍🏻
Who’s looking.
Looks like ford realized their mistake and went back to auto locking hubs for 2025

just did this the other day, easy but a lil bit annoying trying to get to some of the clips on the driver side.
Why was dummy hub there in the first place?

😂😂😂 they have no idea what they are talking about or they are just blowing smoke up your ass. Yours is the same as mine in this video.
It looks like you also got the downgraded front axle (M256/10bolt to M235/12 bolt). It's only an issue if you plan to install a front locker.
I would have just deleted all of that and gone with the upgraded WARN replacements. The ford plastic cage locking hubs are a joke.
Why would you spend the money and time to do that if it makes absolutely no difference at all ?

@@jjames5928what would a leveling kit matter?
@@TheRealPooter99 something about the Caster Angle. The dummy hub makes a grinding noise after a leveling or lift kit
Main reason is spinning parts. Instead of one side spinning all the time no matter what causing uneven wear both sides now disengage when in 2wd.
