God was making a band and was looking for a front man that could sing and play guitar.... he scoured the world and then decided he needed the best that he could find. our loss is heavens gain....hoping to get a ticket to the best concert in the sky when my time is up...God look after Stuart he was the best x
I played in a fast melodic punk band in Minneapolis in the late 90's / early 00's and we would get together and watch this concert on VHS before our rehearsals and shows to get pumped up. We all grew up with Big Country and even though our music was a totally different style we really identified with them. Much respect. Heroes.
If this was 27 August 1986, it was only a few days after Big Country played Knebworth Park, supporting Queen's last ever live gig with Freddie Mercury. On that day I was there to witness BC play to a crowd of 140,000 people and they were tremendous. That day was when my love affair with BC began and it has never faded since.
30 years ago today (August 27, 1986), I was 14 and this show was my first concert ever. I am in the front row with my brother and 2 pals. An amazing concert from one of the best bands ever. Awesome to be able to experience the concert once again 30 years later!
Time to settle in for the night with a nice cold glass of ale and the magic that is Big Country live. Don't think I'll ever get over how good this band is. Cheers
Still got this on VHS. Live at the Barras 1983 was the very first video tape I bought. I didn't even have a VCR as I was a poor student but I lived in hope. Still have that tape too. 😀
BC was better live. Stuart was so genuine that I still cry when I watch or listen to any live BC recordings. Best live band ever. I can't stop missing BC and not the new BC which isn't BC.
A great band badly managed. e..g. the 'muddy' mix of Steeltown should have never left the studio. Massively better musicians than U2 but U2 had better management
As I remember it, there were a couple more encores eventually Stuart said they'd run out of things to play.but they hadn't, they played a Stones number (can't remember which but a popular rocker), a couple more bar band favorites; left the stage, returned to do a Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Tears of a Clown (which when he announced the song, I thought Oh hell no, why spoil a good thing...that was until Stuart began to croon...OMG!! Absolute magic that night from start to the many finishes!
still admire him for doing that after all these years. it could be quite violent going to gigs in those days. He's a big miss and the world needs more people like him. still listening to all his great songs x
I always connected with the energy of this band. LOVED their guitar sound, and the way they mixed a traditional feel with a modern approach. Great vocalist, funky baselines, imaginative lyrics and song structures, this band was definitely a jewel among rocks.
one of the greatest concerts ever by any band in any genre. may the powers that be bow there heads in shame for not honoring this amazing band and a great man in Stuart Adamson. As U2'S the edge admitted at his funeral...
This band was so important to me in the early 80 but then I lost contact for three decades. And now I've learnt how Stuart Adamson ended. RIP. Loved your guitar.
Brooce and Stuart were amazing guitarists. Mark and Tony were amazing too. Put them together and you get the phenomenal Big Country. Thanks for getting me through a very bad period of my life. Love you all 🏴 ❤️
Whilst there is genuine and proper adoration for Stuart through out this posting, please remember that the the rhythm section of Mark and Tony were one of the tightest of the era and contributed to the sound that was (is) Big Country
I believe I am the only Big Country fan in Singapore. It has been a lonely musical path . But you guys here and Portland makes it all ok. RIP my guitar hero Stu and I can only dream to play with the rest of BC. Inwards here is historical/ I wish they show more of Mark amazing drumming. Bruce and Tony just kicking butt here. Its been a beautiful BC session weekend.
I'm from Singapore and I love BC too, especially how they make their guitars sound like bagpipes. Still awesome after all these years. And yeah, RIP Mr Adamson.
Brilliant. Saw them recently in Dunfermline and would have to say its the best ive heard them since SA. Its good they keep going and keep these great songs were they should be heard.....live.
Remember it like it was yesterday. They played 3 or 4 more songs after that (went bar band on us and finally ended with a Smokey Robinson song (Tracks of My Tears or Tears of Clown...that part I don't remember), Smokey would've been proud of Stuart's rendition. One of the best rock gigs I ever went to.
#PortlandHORRORagain Thank you for posting the amazing concert by one of my favourite bands. Also, thank you for specifying in the title "the REAL Big Country." Without Stuart Adamson there is no Big Country. God bless him.
@Charles Jannuzi "He's pretty duff live". Watch the video to be proved thoroughly wrong. Bruce Watson was content to play second fiddle to Stuart but he was a very talented player in his own right.
Fantastic group live.. I was so lucky to see them play at Wembley arena in 89.. Could have gone to watch them play only the other day in Coalville Leicester but decided not to if stuart isn't there its like watching Brazil in the 70s without Pele.. Rip stuart..
Great video! Saw em live in Cincinnati in their prime. They arrived late to gig....played everything...ran out of stuff to play...repeated songs. Noone cared...we LOVED it!!
STUART . RIP . such a brilliant band ... The first time I saw them was as support for U2 in 1983 on the WAR Tour ... amazing .. Actually - more musically advanced than the Headliner - sorry @ Bono, Adam, Larry + Edge - you guys were also fantastic at the Hammy Palais that night ... 31.03.83 - still have the T ;)
Think the Rockpalast gig is their best ever..Used to be on here but the greedy Record company removed it,butchered the sound and now you have to buy it..Forever Legends..rip Stuart..
Fantastic - I've never seen this, and I'm a big fan. Also: any recording featuring "The Teacher" is valued, as they so rarely did that song... What an amazing band.
doccardyHace Hang on a minute here. From a group who is definitely not about violence, that was a little bit stupid. Right, 'Cause violence only ends up in one thing and that is when one of you is dead and that's not very funny at all.
Greath leadsound from our Stuart, much way better then the rockpalast concert, thank you very much for upload this greath concert from their '' emotionall'' seer album !!!!!!!!!!!!
Notice how enervated this band's music made its audience? I was there. It was great to be alive and young, and in a country that was trying to be on the right side of the law, and was much, much more interested in fairness.
I think Bruce is very underrateded as guitarist , i saw him save Stuart's ass times, becacause i play yhe Fender by myself. I'm happy they took The Alarm singer in replace.. He is good. No one can replace Stuart.
Agreed. I'm sorry Tony Butler's left, but the band still has half its original members (well the famous ones) so it's legitimate for me. I missed them on their last tour but I'll catch them in York on 20th Oct if it's the last thing I do. And I've got tickets for Camel in Harrogate the day before - my 2 favourite bands on successive nights!!!
After this I must order my Eighties stars new, the best bands: The Church - The Sound - Big Country - The Teardrop Explodes - Immaculate Fools - ... (it is not sure that U2 will land in my top 10, The Cure, The Mission etc. will be in between...) - RIP Stuart Adamson and rock heaven also with my dead bandmate Jacek of my Lamb's Friends!
I did exactly the same thing as that young lad when they played the Caird Hall in Dundee, Scotland. Had a wee dance with Stuart before running off. Got thrown out the gig (but sneaked back in again). Ah the memories. R. I. P. Big man xx
A band 10 times greater live than they were on record. That said, The Crossing is one of the greatest debut albums ever.
God was making a band and was looking for a front man that could sing and play guitar.... he scoured the world and then decided he needed the best that he could find. our loss is heavens gain....hoping to get a ticket to the best concert in the sky when my time is up...God look after Stuart he was the best x
Nothing more to add to this..Says it all.
you are so so right mate
He needed him back for something great, we will find out one day and i cant wait!!
yes we miss Stuart as he was the best lyricist.
Aamen Aamen Hallelujah😊❤
I played in a fast melodic punk band in Minneapolis in the late 90's / early 00's and we would get together and watch this concert on VHS before our rehearsals and shows to get pumped up. A melodic punk band. That's a new 1 on me. Big country 1 of the best ever. Live gigs unreal . Seen the old and new big country on numerous occasions

Breaks my heart at the end when Stuart shouts Stay Alive. 😢
Awesome best live band ever, boy could he sing and play the guitar well!! R.I.P Stuart Adamson
That combined with the genius songwriting, and the other band members complementing him perfectly.
Don't forget his most important quality: he wrote about social injustice to provoke change!
Time to settle in for the night with a nice cold glass of ale and the magic that is Big Country live. Don't think I'll ever get over how good this band is. Cheers

BC was better live. Stuart was so genuine that I still cry when I watch or listen to any live BC recordings.
Best live band ever. I can't stop missing BC and not the new BC which isn't BC.
BC died with Stuart in my opinion..Never be a better live band in my lifetime..Saw them 5 times with Stuart..Hairs on the back of ya neck stuff..
A great band badly managed. e..g. the 'muddy' mix of Steeltown should have never left the studio. Massively better musicians than U2 but U2 had better management
these guys should have been bigger in this country(America) so underrated.
Saw them over 20 times live. Stuart was awesome but good luck to the rest of the guys keeping the spirit alive.
As I remember it, there were a couple more encores eventually Stuart said they'd run out of things to play.but they hadn't, they played a Stones number (can't remember which but a popular rocker), a couple more bar band favorites; left the stage, returned to do a Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Tears of a Clown (which when he announced the song, I thought Oh hell no, why spoil a good thing...that was until Stuart began to croon...OMG!! field of fire is sooooo GOOOD!! My all time fav BC song since i first heard in '83.
Why the change of guitar 46:41 in middle of the song? a broken string?
What can i say, got into Big Country in the early 80s. What a band !!!!
Brian McGuirk mo
still admire him for doing that after all these years. it could be quite violent going to gigs in those days. He's a big miss and the world needs more people like him. still listening to all his great songs x
This is defo one of there best live shows, i hardly ever listen to recordings just live stuff.
I always connected with the energy of this band. LOVED their guitar sound, and the way they mixed a traditional feel with a modern approach.
Great vocalist, funky baselines, imaginative lyrics and song structures, this band was definitely a jewel among rocks.

Fabulous - they still sound amazing after all these years! Away the Fifers!
This band was so important to me in the early 80 but then I lost contact for three decades. And now I've learnt how Stuart Adamson ended. RIP. Loved your guitar.
Andreas, I hope you've checked out more of their catalog. They did so many remarkable things in the 90's, as well.
To this day I'm 49 years old I've seen a lot shows by far my favorite the seer on the pier big country was the best
great words he was the best amazing talent we were lucky being around when he was .
Brooce and Stuart were amazing guitarists. Mark and Tony were amazing too. Put them together and you get the phenomenal Big Country. Thanks for getting me through a very bad period of my life. Love you all 🏴 ❤️
Stuart...Gone, but never forgotten. Timeless music
Big Country is the best band to come out in the last 45 years and William Stuart Adamson is the coolest rocker ever!!!What a great band!!
I forgot how great this band was. RIP Stuart Adamson. You are missed.
This Concert is Amazing Great!!
The band playing full of so much positive energy.. Like it :) BIG COUNTRY LIVES FOREVER!
This guy left this world too early. Legend in my book. Rip Stuart adamson x
I was there....great show. RIP-Stuart Adamson.
Holy shit. I was there and remember this concert so well. What a fantastic evening.
Whilst there is genuine and proper adoration for Stuart through out this posting, please remember that the the rhythm section of Mark and Tony were one of the tightest of the era and contributed to the sound that was (is) Big Country
Big Country was the best live band ever. Even their sound check gave me chills when I arrived early at an outdoor concert back in 85.
#1 I forgot what a great song "Inwards" is. #2 I think I just hurt my neck headbanging to "Harvest Home".
great Stuart!!!! great remember!!!! Thank you
lucky enough to have seen big country 4 times live on of the best
The best most original band in the world, God Bless Stuart Adamson.
How cool -- they reached Singapore ... amazing
Brilliant. Saw them recently in Dunfermline and would have to say its the best ive heard them since SA. Its good they keep going and keep these great songs were they should be heard.....live.

I quite like U2.
But they aren't fit to lace this band's boots.
King Curry Wish I had come up with that comment. You're spot on!
Adriaan Renkema all the man wanted was for all nations to be as one and get together and party. what a guy so glad his daughter takes after him
***** only my opinion
thanks
Scotlands one and only
Definitely one of the best bands ever the first two albums were genius
These extraordinary Lads added some music that will be enjoyed forever, by those who want to dig deep into their lives... Bless you Lads!!! GM
I wish I'd been there, but I was a 13 year old kid, living on Queens, whose life revolved around Shea Stadium and the New York Mets.
#PortlandHORRORagain Thank you for posting the amazing concert by one of my favourite bands. Also, thank you for specifying in the title "the REAL Big Country." Without Stuart Adamson there is no Big Country. God bless him.
Daniel Lindenbaum
They were awesome 👏 at the Glasgow Barra’s New Years Concert! 🤩
thx for sharing this an amazing gig .God bless Stuart Adamson , much under rated and solely missed!!
Best guitar band ever
Yes!
+Jakob Glocke perfect team Bruce Watson make a lot of hard work
+Charles Jannuzi I think he was pretty good for the job needed: a backup guitar, a base sound
@Charles Jannuzi
"He's pretty duff live".
Watch the video to be proved thoroughly wrong. Bruce Watson was content to play second fiddle to Stuart but he was a very talented player in his own right.
+King Curry full agree with you, Watson is a machine on stage
Fantastic group live.. I was so lucky to see them play at Wembley arena in 89.. Could have gone to watch them play only the other day in Coalville Leicester but decided not to if stuart isn't there its like watching Brazil in the 70s without Pele.. Rip stuart..
I introduced friends to Big Country, after seeing them live they saw that Stuart and Tony were all about enjoying the music.
Me too.
😀
Epic live performance!!
Thanks for posting! Just love this band.
Great video! Saw em live in Cincinnati in their prime. They arrived late to gig....played everything...ran out of stuff to play...repeated songs. Noone cared...we LOVED it!!

Big Country at their peak
STUART . RIP . such a brilliant band ... The first time I saw them was as support for U2 in 1983 on the WAR Tour ... amazing .. I remember Brzezicki picking me up from school in Burnham and taking us to the gigs in London and Reading.
+Peter Hill Lucky you.
+Peter Hill Is that Burnham Slough mate?
I met Mark here in the States a couple years back. Incredibly nice guy. Very friendly person!
Great post thanks very much, God bless BC.
I would like to have this concert on Blue Ray restored image and audio. It would be great.
Big Country awakens the Scot in you.
Thank God for RUclips.
I used to own this on video but threw all videos away. This is my favourite live recording of big country - thanks for putting this up.
I think this awakened the bonny Scotsman in me!!
Im listening to this in UK i have so many times but i want to listen into the new year, i love you so much Stuart
They should of done this no filler album in it's entirety or at least Eildon but they did the track that rocks The.Teacher!

Great Band. RIP Stuart.
kinda chilling to see the image of the twin towers while the words THE SEER appears on the screen......
GOD, I MISS THAT MAN SO MUCH, it hurts!😢

doccardyHace
Hang on a minute here. From a group who is definitely not about violence, that was a little bit stupid. Right, 'Cause violence only ends up in one thing and that is when one of you is dead and that's not very funny at all.
The Drums, it's The Drums as much as any other element.
Mark is in the ZONE here! Most underrated rock drummer ever!
James Connelly Underrated by who??
@@jumpinjojo I’d say the people that cover drummers in the media. Even pre social media era. It took WAY too long for Mark to get on the cover of MD.
Greath leadsound from our Stuart, much way better then the rockpalast concert, thank you very much for upload this greath concert from their '' emotionall'' seer album !!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant
envy anyone at that concert, what an awesome band :D
Notice how enervated this band's music made its audience?

Wish I had been there...
