it all makes sense now! i went to a concert last week and the next day my FYP was filled with videos of that same concert. i loved it though because it is exactly what I want my FYP to show me 😂 but extending this to other pieces of information about our life is... kinda wild.
Rock on!!! but yes, imagine you went to a marriage counselor and now your feed is full of people getting divorced saying how wonderful it is - that will have an impact.
Let's talk about a couple of things: 1. Yes - most apps like Facebook/ Instagram/ Google, especially if they sell ads, track your activities. Not just TikTok. TikTok however, goes above and beyond and is not only tracking what you do inside the app, but what you do outside of it. There are several studies and whitepapers that show that TikTok is by far much more aggressive when collecting data vs. other social media apps. This is NOT about ads either. It's about content manipulation. Imagine you searched for "marriage counseling" and now TikTok starts showing you videos all about how divorce is great. That has an impact on you. The same goes for depression. Religion. Politics. TikTok should NOT know that you even read up about your local Politician and therefore show you only videos based on their political views. 2. There are loads of security researchers who say that TikTok looks at your facial expressions, and reads your emails, and keystrokes etc. etc. Some have been found to be true, while others are false. I don't deal with "conspiracy theories". So I test what I can and show it. 3. I want to be clear: leave your politics out of it. I don't care about your Republicans vs. Democrats. The world has many countries. The US is just one of them. Yes, it's concerning that the data can be accessed by China. But let's be honest, this isn't anything that any other country can't access with their law enforcement agencies with the right warrants. As always, I show you what I found. Its up to you to make a decision that is right for you. Be nice to each other and respect each other's views even if they are different to yours. We have enough crap in this world - let's be decent humans here.
Listen to the words- "Activities inside the app and outside of it". That equals consent to monitor every action taken on your phone 24 hours a day. You accepted the agreement without reading ,didn't you?
Facebook does the same, I'm constantly resetting my advertising ID, and find ads relevant to locations where my IP is located (320 Mike's away) and things like articles in the Google feed have related to past searches
The question shouldn't be whether TikTok does EXACTLY what they say they do, the question is does TikTok do anything they do not say they do, or worse, anything they explicitly say they do not do. I would love to see a follow-up experiment with basic privacy and security settings properly configured, both in the app and on the phone. TikTok (or any other app) harvesting every bit of data I allow, shame on me; TikTok (or any other app) harvesting even one bit of data I have chosen not to share, shame on them.
I would also love a follow-up experiment. And what about other search engines like Brave or Duck Duck Go? Just curious if they are also feeding our every move to TicTok? I downloaded TicTok, because my friends were always sending me links saying ya gotta see this. Finally, curiosity won and I downloaded it. I knew downloading TikTok wasn’t smart. 😏
IIRC, part of Google’s licensing agreement states that by signing up, you give them permission to sell your data (including search history) to whoever they want. I don’t know if TikTok watch your search history when you’re not logged into Google, but when you are logged into Google, you’ve pretty much agreed to it, whether you realize it or not.
Thanks. If TikTok can do this imagine what Apple and Google can, and do on their phones. I don't blame anybody other than Google or Apple or the OS developer for controlling, or not controlling what an app has access to. I don't think TicTok is a security risk. It does show just how much of a security risk your mobile OS is. Notice how nobody is banning or complaining about those.
Well said. Also people think 'well I am not doing anything wrong', or ' he/she is just a child'. One day we will end up with a social credit score like china if globalists have their way. So people will be pre sorted. It also affects ability to get insurance, investment and jobs even today. It seriously limits participation in some sectors even now.
"The data collected by TikTok is owned by the company, ByteDance, which is based in China. This means that the data is subject to Chinese laws and regulations, including those related to government surveillance and data sharing". Yikes, glad I have never used TikTok!
If you're worried about Deepfake, I don't see a way around the fact that you can just record the stream coming from other platforms. You also don't mention is the "Allow tracking" was set on or off and whether this made a difference.
Very interesting video. I just wish you had also shown the best way to go about deleting our TikTok accounts to remove as much data as possible. Would definitely watch more videos like this about other apps that collect data that they really have no business knowing.
VTech had nothing on TikTok … I’d like to hear your take on letting small children use cheap “kiddy cams” from Amazon … I became Grinchesse this past Christmas when I refused to let a 4 year old use one that had an irreversible need to be on Wi-Fi … it was buried in a free game that required their face to be seen thru the selfie mode … I was building PCs on Mom’s dining room table in the 80’s, and I’ve become the original cynic ; aka realist love your work
Friends don't care but I do. I tried to remove it from my desktop and could NOT find it under Apps. It had neatly buried itself into my system applications where other programs were found. It has become impossible to not be tracked! My Huawei from China takes random photos with my cell phone. I can see it has captured a photo but can't delete it. I think these phones are illegal in the U.S. So when you remove it from the Apps in your phone, does it still linger hidden? ...asking for a friend😉 Thanks for this great video I can share!
hmmm that one I am not sure of. They don't need to since we give so much info with just the clicks we do every day. We are literally just giving this info and they have to do no work for it. For every device to keep sending our conversations that is just way too much data from every person around the world every second of everyday
I've had a very similar and very worrying thing happen but not with tiktok (will never use it), but with RUclips music video suggestions watched through a TV. Whilst 'exclusively' searching and watching blues, metal and rock style music vids (something I always did while visiting this particular friend) I was discussing Japanese Taiko drumming performances that I had seen (entirely different to the styles we had been watching and I had NEVER searched for that on this persons TV RUclips channel before) I spoke for a minute or so about the music, my experience of it and that I wanted to see it live again sometime. Within 20 mins the random suggestions that followed the next few music vids we watched contained Taiko drumming videos! The only possible sources for that information in the room would have been the TV, Smartphones and... an Amazon ALEXA. I'd like to see other people test this out and see what results they get, if any. I think you're likely to be very surprised. If this 'is' actually happening then it is incredibly invasive and has some potentially sinister implications. Thanks for your upload Liron, have a great evening.
I choose to never own an Alexa, Google Home or other HomeSpy system. To the 'user' they are just another tool of convenience (it's alluring but unnecessary). Too many people don't understand that instant gratification will destroy the real value of anything.
RUclips/Google listened to me talk at work all the time. I knew it. I used my phone to look stuff up for customers so much that all my algorithms thought I wanted to buy everything in the world. Walmart sucks, nvm, I digress. I even showed my phone to the customer. I'm like see? Google knew what you were looking for, there it is. We don't have it but there it is on Google for ya lol. Talking to the customers about what they were looking for while I walked with them to show them the product or look for it or for an alternative would fill my phone with ads for that stuff. Just talking in front of my phone. I'm sure my computer and the Alexa bitch on my TV are listening too, comparing notes, whispering to each other... Judging. I told them just don't tell anyone else k? They were like oh no problem broke chick, you are not even worthy of being a target, even for bird poop, don't worry, go back to your show and I'll find you a nice pizza ad fatty.
This happened to me also. I was in the gym with my wife. Some guy was screaming. Dropping weights etc. I explained to her about “gym etiquette”. Two things are important here. 1) my wife is from Europe. English is her 4th language. She had no idea what the word etiquette meant so I had to explain. 2) this is the first time I’ve mentioned gym etiquette in probably 30 years. The very next morning there’s a recommended video from a pro wrestler about gym etiquette….
Thanks for your reply 😊 It's the way you simplify for the novice I like. Simplicity and common sense flow in your videos. Keep well my friend and please continue with your important work for the people 👊
No Tik Tok here, and yet I have the same results from the apps on my phone. I have spoken with people about something and within a few days I will receive news stories and ads related to what we talked about. I have turned off all settings that should allow this, yet it still happens. I wish it was just Tik Tok and China.
I couldn’t care less if they know what I eat for lunch but they shouldn’t be able to have data that could allow them for example to knock at my door tomorrow (provided with some exception). Also, as a consumer I shouldn’t need to go beyond the impossible to be able to know what, where who and when my data is being used. Fine if they want to sell the data but with one click that data should be able to be removed from any and all of their partners/buyers. I should own my data not them.
One more thought.., with all the talk regarding a move towards people having a 'social credit score,' and how AI can track what we say, what we write, who we follow, I just see how anything we do can be factored into that score. Be safe.
We presume we're being protected from bad actors by lawmakers, but really? we have to read the terms and conditions? You'd need a legal degree to start with.
Am I missing something here, thought it was pretty common knowledge they did this, fb and others do the same, it's even in permissions and terms and conditions.
Ok here is my update. After watching this video and making a couple of comments, I went to TikTok. First of all, keep in mind that my day sucked. I was not on my phone all day. I got off work early to help out with my dog. I saw my neighbors dog get hit by a car, he lived but I spent most of the day crying. I used my favorite RUclips channel to go to sleep. I watched what I normally watch on TV and checked into a mind numbing video game. Nothing else. I woke up way too early and watched this video then went to TikTok. I did see videos that I would normally never ever see. Mental well being vids and dating videos. I also saw far more doggy vids than normal and one about Walmart. I don't really believe this was a coincidence either. Now the dating videos came straight from the app eavesdropping on this video of him talking about dating apps. I never talk about them or browse or anything remotely concerning dating. Ever. My day was all about dogs and crying. I made two comments on this video about when I worked at Walmart. It's for real.
Also RUclips itself - I've had only conversations about certain specific topics (never searched for it online for it , etc.) and not long after those very topics show up on the suggested videos page. Very strange. Who knows who the culprit is - the phone, PC, smart TV, etc.?
Good information, Liron. Of course, Facebook also has their own 'pixel' that seems to be everywhere and privacy policies to match! Recently I bought a new Samsung phone. Tiktok (and Facebook and ...) was installed by default and don't seem to be uninstallable. But scariest of all is the *HUGE* raft of installed CA root certificates from China and Russia. Do you know if there is any info on how to remove those or to 'untrust' them without breaking the phone?
How do you find these certificates and how can I find out where it's going, as you mentioned yours are coming from China and Russia. Thank you very much in advance. If you happen to have a search term I should use, please let me know. I don't mind doing the research
what would the phone type make a difference? Its not reading Android specific info, but the cookies and data from other apps. They say so in the policies doc. I am not an Apple person, so what am I missing?
RUclips, Facebook others all do the same thing. One time I was talking to a friend at lunch about something I never searched & boom I was getting ads. I now say no to all cookies
I never use Social media on my phone, tablet or PC. I never understood the fact that people on social media sites make such trivial things important. (e.g. "Hey look at my meal today") who the F cares about what someone else eats!
Thanks. Very informative. I think that it would be useful to have more info about how users can improve their privacy online through better management of cookies.
Mobile phones are really cool and useful too... However, with all the Spyware, trackers and built-in advertising, plus the censorship, the whole experience is tainted.... Android 12 acts and reacts just like Windows 10...buggy, intrusive and watered down....thanks.
Can you name just ONE (other than maybe an open source) application that does NOT collect our data as TikTok does? btw someone as a quest at my home watched video about making money. Now, at my computer I am bombarded with YT advertising re the same subject. All within same WiFi network, different users but one device.
i think it also has to do with the fact that you’re obviously watching more of the stuff you’re looking for and tiktok can tell that. like, you’re pausing on the diy, vacation, dating, and london content, so it will show you more of it. not saying it not tracking you, i just don’t think it’s actually tracking anymore than most other social media apps to be completely honest.
When I’ve been using TikTok the content have been only Random…. Never anything related to what I’ve been doing. Same with AD’s and ETC Everything is confused 😂
I'm wondering if it reads Note documents, since I received a Note document with vacation ideas to look at but I didn't open it up for like two weeks but all of sudden I start seeing vacation packages to these same places. The thing is that I never looked at any travel stuff on my phone, just shopping, the list was just for me to look at and possibly make a suggestion. Weird, right?
Few years a go, I was thinking on installing TikTok. So I did. Then I open the app and there was soo many permission requests that they required me to accept. And I was like, disagree on everything and the app closed. So I cleared data and cache then uninstalled it. Hope I did good. Still, I was tempted once...
I thought IOS specifically protected apps from each other or gaining info such as location without the express ok of the phone’s user. For example for the TikTok app… doesn’t iOS give the user the option to not allow the sharing of your location unless you choose to? I understand cookies and permissions etc. but the TikTok SDK seems to be a way around cookies and also seems like a very large breach of privacy.
If 28k apps use tik tok sdk, does that mean tik tok is collecting peronals info even if you don't have the app downloaded? Also what is the best way to stop tik tok or any other social media from collecting data on me, I use a VPN, but is that enough?
Wow, another video of great, scary stuff. I for one, embrace our new chinese overlords. I'll start searching for very unpopular topics for them to see what happens..
I don't install any apps I don't need. Never had TikTok, never will. I also use the best quality security software available on all my devices, as well as turning off WiFi when I'm out and about.
Not surprised! I wonder if anyone noticed this also, I was working on CT project at work on computer, directly connected to Wire (not wifi), my phone was on table, not close to PC tho. Then half hour after I got home, winding down, checking things on my smartphone, I was stunned... it finds things related to CT state. Wha?!?!
I notice the creator of this video doesn't give thumbs up when we speak against Facebook and Google, it's a little suspicious to me, especially when I know Facebook hears my conversations because a day later I have ads pop up about them.
Firstly see pinned comment. Literally there. Secondly, Facebook does not hear your conversation. Its called the Yellow Car syndrome (google that). It DOES collect data not just from you, but from those around you. This is why you can be talking about something at the dinner table and someone will say they just saw an ad for that. Thirdly, no reason for Amazon, Google, Facebook and others to "listen" to you since you give them everything they need with your clicks. Can you imagine the amount of data it would take for every person on this planet with a phone to constantly send all their conversations 24hrs a day, 365 days a year? There is no way the internet would handle that, nor could they process that just to extract a key word just to send you an ad. You give them enough with every click. Its illogical to think that this is happening. But hey - you seem to know everything, so you do believe whatever it is you want to. K bye
@@LironSegev I am not defending TikTok, it is a very questionable app and I do not use it. Nor was I insulting you, I hold you in high regard, so the hostility is unwarranted. I do know if I search something on Amazon, Google will then barrage me with ads for similar items. All I am saying is that privacy in today's age is almost nonexistent!
Once online, privacy ends. Bottom line.

Honestly TikTok seems like a fun app and I would like to use it.....
Perfect timing, ordered new phone today, will pick it up Monday. No TikTok for me. :) Great job!
ooo what phone did you get?
Mate, do you know of programmatic advertising ? Look into it
Does deleting the tik tok app totally remove everything tik tok related? Or do I need to do more?
So we gotta remove apps that collect data an cookies ?
Tik Tok and just about every other app you use on your mobile does this. The only way to stop this is don't use a phone!
Be interested to know if the exact same thing happens with an iPhone or not
Yes
what would the phone type make a difference? Its not reading Android specific info, but the cookies and data from other apps. They say so in the policies doc. I am not an Apple person, so what am I missing?
Hey Liron Segev even though it has nothing do to with the video what do you think about phisical 2fa security keys and can hackers bypass them
RUclips, Facebook others all do the same thing.
You even not have to search, only talk in about something next to your smartphone, wait 2 to 3 days and you will see.
nice try🤣 You're trying to shift tiktok users to youtube shorts where your bread and butter
I’m confused. How is this different from what Facebook does?
Thanks. Very informative. I think that it would be useful to have more info about how users can improve their privacy online through better management of cookies.
Hence why I delete all cookies & never accept them in any websites I visit...
But thank you for your time & research 💯
No worries!
So go through an remove apps off the phone that tracts cookies an data an location??
This is nothing new; I've experienced targeted ads, as well as spam, since the '90s. Tik tok happens to be really good at it ;)
this isn't about ads. Its about content manipulation
Do the same with fb RUclips
Became to a Obey-Channel this Channel....
does this happens on apple too?
We "Boomers" invented the home computer, the computer bulletin board, HTML, and social media.
You know tiktok is bad when its hated by TECH people.
😂 True Story
Mobile phones are really cool and useful too...
However, with all the Spyware, trackers and built-in advertising, plus the censorship, the whole experience is tainted....
Android 12 acts and reacts just like Windows 10...buggy, intrusive and watered down....thanks.
Dude you searched on google so isn’t that say google is sharing data to other apps ?
So you are saying that Google, who owns RUclips, would share this info with TikTok who is it's biggest competitor?
Same with AD’s and ETC
Everything is confused 😂
I'm wondering if it reads Note documents, since I received a Note document with vacation ideas to look at but I didn't open it up for like two weeks but all of sudden I start seeing vacation packages to these same places. The thing is that I never looked at any travel stuff on my phone, just shopping, the list was just for me to look at and possibly make a suggestion. Weird, right?
i dont use tik tok.
WELL DONE VIDEO
This is scary.
Yeah, tiktok voilate privacy as you say access other apps read data .
I removed it since 3 months ago
If 28k apps use tik tok sdk, does that mean tik tok is collecting peronals info even if you don't have the app downloaded? Also what is the best way to stop tik tok or any other social media from collecting data on me, I use a VPN, but is that enough?
Wow, another video of great, scary stuff. I for one, embrace our new chinese overlords. I'll start searching for very unpopular topics for them to see what happens..
I zapped TikTok a year ago. Their platform promoted bullying. I said .. no way. Bye.
Tictoc having a privacy policy is laughable. It should just say you don't have any. Hahaha.
Yes, and so does any Google app, Microsoft app, Apple, etc. Closed source, black box
Should we be concerned since they also have access to your clipboard, which can contain pictures, texts and videos?
Much the same with FB and RUclips, whatever you hit like on them they'll post similar videos.
lol you're only bias to tiktok, even facebook, instagram, youtube will do this kind of stuff, even amazon, or any online store app you installed.
I don't install any apps I don't need. Never had TikTok, never will. I also use the best quality security software available on all my devices, as well as turning off WiFi when I'm out and about.
I just deleted that app. I haven't used it often enough and got little entertainment from it anyway. No one needs all that invasive bull crap.
I was wondering I had tiktok but decided to delete the app. Did that stop them from being in my phone???
you are going to make a lot of chinese commissars unemployed. How heartless of you Liron....
Thats the whole point🗿, this what they are doing is just WRONG
I never trusted tiktok from the very beginning , and now it shows I am correct after all these years!
Wha?!?!
Accounts could be linked but also I genuinely think these apps can read thoughts and moods.
Privacy?? You want privacy and a phone that can call the world??? How does that work?
Snap, Twitter also. Would love my China assisted tax return to pop up on my Tesla screen
Let's face it , it's not TikTok's fault, it's the other apps that share users' information data with them, soooo 🤔
Privacy won’t be an issue till they used against you as part of a background check.
Why just single out tiktok? IG and google track and sell too. Is there an app that doesn’t?
Do you have to have a TicToc account. Or does it happen if you just look at the videos without an account?
Sos does Facebook and Google. It all depends on who you want tracking you
I totally agree, however, except for the information going to China, Google and others do the same thing! There is no real privacy anymore!
K
bye
@@LironSegev I am not defending TikTok, it is a very questionable app and I do not use it. Nor was I insulting you, I hold you in high regard, so the hostility is unwarranted. I do know if I search something on Amazon, Google will then barrage me with ads for similar items. All I am saying is that privacy in today's age is almost nonexistent!
I do not use tik tok.😊
👍
