  • The 2018 Toyota Highlander is worth a look as a 3 row SUV. Although it's shorter than some competitors, it provides ample space in most areas and plenty of cargo capacity. It's engine provides plenty of punch and paired with it's 8 speed automatic it's a smooth riding 3 row SUV. The Limited Highlander Interior is nice with many features and several standard safety features like Toyota Safety Sense technology. Check out this 2018 Toyota Highlander Ultimate Review and let me know what you think!

    Thanks for watching! What did you think?
    Ultimately, this is an ideal SUV for a typical family no matter which trim level you would want. You get the Highlander’s predictable reliability, no nonsense easy to live with demeanor. It had good power, cargo space, comfort, and efficiency but I would love to see Carplay/Android auto plus more dialed in steering to make it a bit more exciting to drive. Let me know what your thoughts are!

      Do you know if the AWD version is all wheel drive all the time? The AWD button and explanation in the manual is confusing and no one at the dealership can answer me!!

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  6 лет назад

      Good question. What I’ve read is the AWD is front wheel biased, sometimes being o my front wheel depending on Acceleration, wheel slippage, and cornering. So crushing with minimal acceleration or torque, most likely only FWD, but when you turn the wheel it can activate the rear wheels to help with cornering and quicker acceleration (even from a stop) the rear wheels are engaged up to 50% of torque. So technically not all the time...but you shouldn’t notice even when you require traction from all wheels

      It's too bad there's no digital dash for the speed and other instrumentation. Good thing you can disable the eco-mode

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  6 лет назад

      Rixter I don’t think I scrolled through all the display options but that little screen in the middle can show digital MPH (I believe) because other Toyota’s with that screen do. But a bigger digital display would be nice. Thank goodness you can turn off the stop start..can’t stand those lol

    I have the 2018 Limited and honestly there are only two things I dislike. 1) no LED headlights which I already took care of by buying some aftermarket LED bulbs and 2) the infotainment screen. It looks a bit dated and although it doesn’t have apple play it actually works great. I know the 2014 model had issues with the screen shutting off but they completely took care of that I believe in the 2017 refreshed model.
    A LOOOOT of people complain on how slow the tailgate Is but one time I hit the button on my remote to open it and didn’t realize how short the garage ceiling was and I was able to stop it before it got damaged; it’s also good for kids if they put their hands in there as it gives you time to make sure the tailgate is clear to close.
    Other than that I appreciate your review as it’s not biased and you never compared it to other cars which makes this easier to watch.

      @PrimeAutotainment  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you very much. Yes, I do see a slight brownish tinge in the sunlight. I own a Camry with the same color and see it but honestly only if I actually really look at it. Most of the time I forget about it and don’t notice that. In other lightings I like it...dark, shade, indirect lighting.
      The Highlander is comfy and practical...enjoy it!

      Thanks Peter! Yep you’re right, super easy to do. We have a 2017 Camry with the same Halogen projector setup as this. I bought plug and play LEDs on Amazon (Hikari brand) and they’re great. Super bright and even light but they still follow the beam cutoff pattern so they don’t blind people.

    Excellent review. Do you (and your wife) prefer this over the XLE? I'm concerned about cabin wind noise. Do I have to get a moon roof? Lastly, regarding the exterior- is the white available with the exact interior in your demo? What is the exterior color in your demo? Would you and your wife still choose this gray exterior?
    Did they resolve the dash hump issue?
    Thank you so much. Best review I've seen. I have a 2001 Limited that I love!

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 лет назад +1

      Thank you! We prefer the limited over XLE especially for ventilated seats...but we’d probably go with the XLE to save a little money.
      Once you get to the XLE trim and higher, the moonroof is standard and I don’t believe it can be deleted.
      Yes the white is available with the interior here.
      This exterior is Predawn Gray Mica - I have a Camry with this color and it hides dirt pretty well but also has shades of brown in it with. Some lighting. Overall I’m happy with the color. For the Highlander we would probably go with the white though, she really likes it because of the pearl metallic type of shine it has.
      As for the dash hump...I’ve heard about it but not sure on any resolutions or what the updates are on it. Might be a good idea to check some Toyota Forums and see.
      I appreciate it very much! Glad to hear it...those early highlanders are great. We own a 2004 Limited as well and don’t wanna get rid of it lol. It’s at 170k miles so far.
      If you’re interested in getting a new Highlander...once the 2020 models hit the lot...big incentives should be coming for the 2019 models - not sure if you’ve seen 2020 model but it’s been redesigned
      Thanks again, let me know if you have any other questions. As for wind noise...it’s been a while since I’ve driven this 2018 model but I know it’s quieter than our 2004 lol

    • @JB-mv5tq
      @JB-mv5tq 5 лет назад

      Thank you so much for your reply. I know, my 2001 has only 92, 500 miles on it and it is the best car I've owned. It has the beige cloth interior. Didn't think I'd like leather, but the perforated is a game changer. Had a 2001 Camry previously, loved it, but was too low.
      Any concerns about visibility with that new rear window or about the same with regular hatch? Do I need to consider the Platinum?
      Pearlized exterior can be a concern here in Southern California with fading, oxidizing. Any info on that?
      Much appreciated and best Easter wishes to you and your family.

    • @PrimeAutotainment
      @PrimeAutotainment  5 лет назад +1

      The rear visibility definitely isn’t very good, but almost none of the vehicles in this class are. You can see enough if what you need to, but gotta be careful. Kind spot monitoring is helpful as a backup plan.
      It all depends if you want the extra features with the platinum, maybe check out two different models and see if you’d miss the features or not.
      I’m not sure how different it would affect the paint but here in Texas I see a lot of the white color like that and haven’t seen any with issues or bad spots...so I would hope itd be safe! Probably try to get a coat of wax on it from time to time to be safe.
      Thank you very much and same to you! 😁

      Nolan, I agree with you about the space and power, but the price of the Highlander, ouch!!!!! These SUVs are not supposed to cost as much as a down payment for a house. Because of the price difference, I bet most people would buy the Rogue, but lease the Highlander, and I'll bet that it is probably expensive to least the Highlander as well. I adore the Highlander, but I can only get if I win the lottery.
      P.S. can you please do a review of the Nissan Rogue. I like your reviews because you're honest with your likes and diplomatic with your dislikes.
      Thanx, Nolan. You're the best. Looking forward to seeing more Prime Autotainment reviews.

      @PrimeAutotainment  6 лет назад

      Yeah the price gets steep at this trim! My wife and I have an ‘04 and would love a new one, but as long as hers is running well we will save the money for now lol.
      Good news! I believe I’m doing a Nissan Rogue this Friday! Probably get review up the following week. Pretty sure they want me to do the top trim (usually do) but if I choose the trim level which would you prefer? I’ll try to cover details and specs of each trim either way.
      I really appreciate that. Thanks for your support! 😊

    • @lanainamerica2043
      @lanainamerica2043 6 лет назад

      Thanks Nolan for your feedback. If you could choose the trim, I would appreciate it if you would review the SV trim. When choosing trims, I always go for the middle trim. I work in healthcare, and trust me, healthcare work is hard, earned money, therefore I don't want to spend so much for the top trim, but don't want to have the basic trim either. The middle trim always suits me just fine. I know that the SV is the middle trim, so I hope that you will be able to review that trim. I am in the market for a crossover, I am leaning towards the Rogue because of affordability plus I like Nissan, I've always had good luck with them.
      But just in case I hit the Powerball jackpot tonight, I will run out and get a Highlander ASAP!!! LOL!!!! Thanks for your feedback, I will be on the lookout for your Rogue review. I am so glad that I found your site. Will definitely be watching only your reviews from now on. Thanks again.

      Sounds good I will see what I can do. If it’s the top trim I’ll make sure to go over SV features but maybe it’ll work out!
      I respect your healthcare work. I work as a physical therapist assistant...I’ve seen hospital, SNF, outpatient, and pediatrics and know just how much work other healthcare workers do...everyone is far under appreciated that’s not a doctor. Thanks for what you do.

    • @PrimeAutotainment

      The only difference is FWD vs AWD. Otherwise the Limited is just the name of the trim level. If you see Limited Platinum, that’s the limited trim with the platinum package that gives you a handful of extra features.

    We do like our 2018 Highlander Limited, but do have some complaints. 1-the navigation screen is very difficult to see in bright sunlight, 2- the low pressure tire warning does not tell you which tire is low, 3- the headlights do not come on when you remotely unlock the vehicle. This can be unsafe in a dark parking lot. All that comes on are the puddle lights under the mirrors. 4- the location of the drivers side mirror blocks most of the view when turning left into a driveway or the like. Just our feelings on this otherwise excellent SUV.

    If your in the market for a Highlander look for a hump in dash just to the drivers side of the clock in the channel between the bezel and main dash. Dealer says its a problem, Toyota acknowledges issue but refuses to do anything because it says others have the same issue. We bought one last month and have less than 600 miles on it. I have gone to other dealers and some do and some don't have the problem. Toyota warranty is terrible. Buyer beware.
