Found an old unused terrarium in my room. I have literally no idea when I purchased it or why it was at the bottom of my used sketchbook pile, but it was. Anyways I washed it out, made sure there was no soap residue, and got to work. It’s for isopods (roly polys / pill bugs). I used one part tilled dirt with lots of garden plant roots cut up and mixed in it from the tilling. One part potting soil. One half part partially decomposed mulch. And one half part leaf litter from the area I found the isopods in. Mixed all that up with some decomposing grass, wilted flower petals, and other decomposing plants for the terrarium’s soil. I water it nice and well so it’s damp. Put some bark that creates a dark area for them to go under and crawl under. Put some nice moss on the bark. Added small live plants to it to brighten it up. Added a small chunk of moist cardboard for the isopods to eat along with one dog kibble, several breaking down leaves, live plant cuttings, and more wilted flower petals. Over all its very pretty, very full of food, very damp, and very good for the four little isopods I’m housing. I need to add egg shell so the two baby isopods get plenty of calcium for they’re exoskeletons. But besides that they’re all set. I love them dearly. Also I’m scared I keep my room too cold and that I’ll kill then (they can’t really thrive below 68 degrees F) so I’ve turned my fan off for them. First night and I’m already changing my day to day for these little guys.

Started to have a breakdown. Fought it off for two hours and got through work. Went to group thing (some friends but mostly associates) because I already agreed to it and didn’t want to back out. Was very closed off and hostile at the start (according to one of my friends). But I slowly starting vibing because my other friend there is such a goofy goober and he started making me laugh. Felt very good. Honestly is the reason I was able to go home and finish more tasks I needed to get done without fully cracking.
I’m really glad to hear that things started to turn around for you and that you found some relief through your friend’s humor. It sounds like you managed to push through a tough time and get things done. Keep taking care of yourself, and remember that you’ve got support around you. 😊💪
Been on call with a friend. It’s supper late and I’ve been tired all day. I was falling asleep while he was talking to me. He had to wake me up and tell me I need to get off call and sleep. So yeah that’s what I’m doing now.
I love my isopods. I don’t really see the baby pill bugs. (My friends who’s had isopods has assured my they’re probably just very well hidden and not dead but I’m still very worried fucked something up.) but I did see the two bigger ones out and about. Still it’s a large tank so when I found a big guy today I just had to bring him to the fold. He really likes the bark, he’s been nibbling at it for a while. Also the smaller adult one has a taste for flower petals. The biggest boy just nibbles on a bit of everything.
It sounds like your isopods are thriving! Your friends are probably right-baby pill bugs are good at hiding, so try not to worry too much. It’s great that each of them has their own preferences! The big guy seems to love his new home. Keep up the good care, and they’ll keep doing well! 🌿🐾
I know it’s so silly to be writing about my isopods again but I love them so much. Also I found one of the babies, and the others probably just still hiding. So I got another one for no real reason oopsies. Oh well. I love my two babies, my little big medium, and my two big boys. Yes that’s what I’ve been calling them. I love them so.
