Why did you go with a merv 9? I have a carrier furnace and I got a merv 12 but my filter goes in a vent on the ceiling. Im thinking a merv 12 might be too high

This model does best with merv 8 & 9. These filters allow the unit to push air through properly at a good rate that the unit is not overworking itself.
Your bill could be $30-$60 more all because someone may not understand that higher merv isn't always better. Yes, the filter may filter the air better. But if your unit can't function properly with a higher merv filter, then your unit is overworking itself/working harder to push air through a high merv filter. Your unit is then working hard, using more energy = costing you more on your bill and reducing the life of your unit. Using a higher merv filter on a unit that works best with a lower merv filter may cause you to notice that it takes longer for your home to heat or cool and that the air flow coming out of your vents may seem weak. Try a lower merv and the recommended filter for your unit and see the difference in your bill, air flow volume from the vents, and how long it's taking to heat or cool your home to whatever temp. You've selected.

It really just depends if someone in your household has allergies or is getting sick often it's good to get a higher MERV or FPR/MPR rated filter. Keep in mind though, your system has to work harder with a more restrictive filter which will shorten its lifespan and make it less energy efficient. After doing some research I'm learning the latent side effects of having super filtered air in your home is a less effective immune system and really dry air which has the ability to worsen a wide range of health issues, from respiratory conditions and skin problems to nosebleeds, dry eyes, sore throats, and more. Sorry for the long comment lol
