Your comments regarding needing support are very true. In fact In watching the film “Gifted hands” I was just as impressed with Ben Carson’s mother as I was Ben Carson. My Mother rejected me at birth, and suffered from Schizophrenia and as a child I can’t remember my father much although he came into the picture later. I have CPTSD as a result of my childhood and other traumatic events. I am deeply involved in studying childhood trauma, its effects and ways to manage the effects so those comments obviously resonated with me. In childhood abuse it’s been found that the effects can be significantly reduced by having just one person who supported you during the abuse. I think that it was particularly tough on the twins parents for the points you raised regarding how the main benefit seemed to be to Ben Carson and the Hospital and also of course any successful separations after their tragedy would compound the pain. I don’t subscribe to anyone can be what they want to be because so many things have to come together involving Support, genetics, circumstances, self management etc. Helping everyone see their value irrespective of “fame” or “achievements” is the most practical help you can give anyone. In Bens case it’s easy to see what his outcome could have been without the love and motivation from his mother, something he has openly testified to himself.
