Double breath weapon black hole and white hole. With an enhanced Goodberry through it's white hole. Cosmic Dragon, specifically Gravity Dragon. Is a psychic. Meaning two way telepathy. Only as affected by gravity as it wants to be. Has an enhanced healing capability. Scales that fall off regrow almost instantly.

Breath weapon: white hole can provide the body with all needed energy and nutrients to both survive and grow. Can also be used to unleash deadly torrents of energy. Weaponized use activates when exhaling with breath weapon. Can shapeshift into one specific form built into its DNA. A human form that doesn't age past 18 years of age. Original Is completely immortal. Others are not so immortal. Original reproduces through magical means but it's offspring reproduce through natural means.

Whenever I make dragons, I like to pay homage to classical mythology where they had soft underbellies while also working it into their ability to fly. What I came up with is that their bellies are soft and tender because they have the ability to change their colour much like a cuttlefish. So from above, they would match the colour of the sky and gain advantage on stealth checks against creatures viewing them from the ground.

Before the Gem Dragons were added I homebrewed the Brass Dragon into a thunder dragon since I always thought it was unfair that Chromatic Dragons all had one unique elemental affinity but in the Metallic group, the Gold and Brass Dragons shared fire. I had the idea of making Brass a thunder dragon when I read a bit about them and found out they love to talk to adventurers and hear stories. So I came up with the idea that Brass Dragons would be sort of the Bards of the dragons. And I also had the idea that their roars sound like brass instruments. A hatchling would sound like a flute, a wyrmling would sound like a trumpet, a young sounds like a French horn, an adult sounds like a trombone and finally the ancient brass dragon would sound like a tuba.
I even had a game where the party encountered a village that was woken up every morning by the sounds of a nearby dragon, every morning singing a new song. And the village had been living with this dragon for decades so the eldest villagers remember when the dragon was younger and it's roar was higher pitch then it is now

Had a pink dragon from the feywild portion of my campaign. It had two breath weapons; trapping bubbles - a dex save to avoid or get trapped in a bubble that rises until it reaches a certain height then pops causing fall damage, then the second breath weapon was a prismatic spray (rainbows!) as the spell.

I also love to play around with dragons. I had 2 dragon fights. First was as a classic Green dragon as you can get (he only had more CHA so better sopells and frightening presence). But the second time that was a bulbous necrotic dragon-cadaver that used friendly NPC (silver dragon in humanoid form) as a battery. He had four breath weapons (wall of darkness, ice tomb, poison fireball and paralysing), couldn't move or fly because of his size, and used his wings to give himself cover from attacks. That thing was easilly the hardest soul wrenching boss I ever made.

Really liking the Dragon Site idea for showing how dragon increase in strength as they age.
I think ALL dragons should have innate "spell-casting" abilities. Not actually casting really, but creating those effects.
Being able to speak Draconic and maybe even Common should be a given. being as long lived as they are, I would also allow additional languages up to the INT mod until they hit Ancient. By that time any dragon should be able to speak any language they have come in contact with.
Lastly. think of the classic Dragon Mag cover of the party gathered around the tiny little dragon hanging in the tree. To me, that should be how tough dragon actually are. It would have taken all of them to take out that little guy while maybe losing someone in the process. Fighting an Adult or older dragon should be EPIC and Deadly for any party.

I had a new player join my pirate campaign last session, and I got to do some cool draconic stuff as an introduction.
I asked her to find 3 items in the new Vault Of Magic book, and she chose the Cloak of Squirrels as one of them. So her introduction to the campaign was that she had stolen this cloak from a Elder Drake's hoard. I use a good amount of dragonkin within the world to make it a little more draconic :)
She was being chased by this Drake for its item back, and she came across the ship the rest of the part was on. As it was a water/lightning drake I gave it a breath weapon that sent lightning bubbles that blew out and created 2d4 minion lightning crabs that dealt 2 taser like lightning damage if they hit. It had a lightning ball ability that would start at 4D6 and then would pinball between enemies if they failed the save losing 1d6 each hit until there was a success save or it hit 4 enemies. It also had a sweeping attack with its tail.
It focused on the new character and was speaking in draconic that it wanted its item back. After having been hit with an overwhelming barrage it was not expecting from the PCs and having its leg chopped off, it fled with the promise that it will track them down and be prepared for them.
It was a fun elemental draconic fight that rocked the group fairly well and they are now worried about the future implications. Also the new player loved the introduction haha.

For a claw attack, add on a grapple. They are game changers and quite underutilized. The dragon could raise the grappled creature up to their breath attack. The dragon could fly up in the air with them and throw them. The dragon could grapple an unconscious player and use them as a hostage to end the fight early, in their favor of course. Even adding an action to crush a grappled creature, where the dragon uses both hands for massive damage.

It literally just sat there getting hit, throwing out debuffs and annoying stuff like paralysis, etc. The players learned their lesson that day.
    A) don't just rush into a fight against an elder dragon coz you wanna kill something

Not me sweating over here at the mention of magic school based dragons because one of my world's pantheon is called the Dracomages and they're literally the pantheon for wizards/mages in the world and are all dragon deities since arcane magic is very draconic in nature in my book with the draconic language being the basis of all runes and magical writing
On another note, my players are about to be traveling past an area of the wild that has had some arcane nudging of evolution due to pollution from the crossway of two major airship routes. This has resulted in things like bramble wolves, thistle wyverns, and nettleborn (think a humanoid cyborg, but with plants instead of machines). Can't wait to apply this system to come up with the thorn dragons present there!

With the sun dragon, I think that it would have solar flares were ribbons of fire can randomly burst out of its body, as well as a fire based breath that's more of a sun beam than fire cone, when it dies it goes supernova (explodes with massive damage) depending on the colour depends on what remains. As a stars size changes its colour changes as well, and different colour stars when they go supernova they leave behind a smaller star that's super strong, some have magnetic fields so strong can rip the iron out of your blood.
Up to the black hole, and we all know how rediculously powerful they are.

I think tying the concept of dragon sight into the revised creation myth where dragons were at the heart of everything enhances the concept in practice. Namely forest dragons (kind of like Green Dragons, but neutral in alignment and tied to nature), Shield Dragons (Dragons which don't fly, but are incredibly armored), and Bestial Dragons (which have low intelligence and more brute power). With several kinds of Dragon-kin as well. So far my players haven't really encountered more than a newborn White Dragon (which nearly killed them) & a Young Black Dragon (which I had to scale back a bit), so I haven't thrown them at anyone yet.

I want to make a homebrew Lemure Dragon.
From the Greek: Lemures may represent the wandering and vengeful spirits of those not afforded proper burial.
If a group Murderhobos, the innocent blood cries out for vengeance. Their final moments, corpses, and emotions eventually coalesce into a Lemure Dragon.
For each murderhobo, the dragon gains a Legendary Action. With each hobo murdered (in varying multiples), the dragon gains additional HP, AC, stats/saves, and attacks/damage. It has truesight, blindsight, and can move through air, water, and earth. It can also sense those who wronged its spirits, and follow them across the singular plane or find a portal, similar to a Jabberwock. If the party/murderhobo repeatedly uses a type of damage, the Dragon gets damage reduction, then resistance, then immunity, and finally heals off said type.
In addition to a Necrotic breath weapon, one person it sees or are within 40’ make a wisdom save or be paralyzed; either way they see the last moments of a person they killed.
Behaviorally, the Lemure Dragon only targets those who murderhobo. If it runs out of last moments for a player, said player will stop taking damage or effects from its breath and sight/presence, but can still be targeted by fang, tail, and claw.
If a player makes an honest apology, or rolls high on persuasion against its Expertise Insight, the Dragon will use (and lose) a Legendary Action, which will brand the player character. The dragon will ignore those branded, they take no more damage, and will leave if all Murderhobos are dead or branded. This brand will protect the innocents, causing disadvantage on attacks and deal equal damage to the offender on a hit. Should a branded player(s) kill an innocent, the dragon will respawn at full strength (possibly boosted further) and attack the offender(s).

You gave me an idea - I've had fae courts tied to the wheel of the year, with great lords and ladies associated with seasons, and the top tier representing the light and dark half of the year. The same could be done with dragons - imagine a Samhain dragon or Beltaine dragon, the next tier up including the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn Dragons, and the top tier (the equivalent of Bahamut and Tiamat) being the Gloaming Dragon and the Gleaming Dragon.

At one point I created at least two unique dragons for both metallic and chromatic kinds, for some even more. I hope it at least inspires someone who decides to brave this wall of text.
    It went something like this:
    - White
The Rune Dragon - a Frost giant rune carver whose husband is the chief that was cursed into a dragon form in hopes her husband mistakenly kills her, it didn't happen they worked it out and now she covered in giant runes head to tail
The Ice Jaws - this is simply a shark inspired version of the dragon that can swim through snow and ice
    - Black
The Fungal Tyrant - The dragon hatched in a myconid colony and was infested since then, he devoured the sovereign and became it, traveling through Underdark he found a titanic cave with ancient stone giants from times before death still holding it up. He promptly covered them in spores and now listens to their suffering via the raport spores.
Time runs out dragon - this one learned chronomancy in order to lengthen the suffering of people or speed up some disease or decay it inflicted them with. Lair in a giant half sunken but still working clock is a must with this one.
    - Green(by far the most ideas were here but I chose two of my favorites)
Hag Dragon - This one decided that she wants a piece of the hag business and established herself a the great grandmother in feywild. She wears a gigantic hat featuring dangling cages, sewn in live elves, and many other things. Big cauldron tons of kobold goblin hybrids, koboblins if you will and other wacky stuff. She could grab a kobold, chew them up and spit out somewhere for a redcap to grow out of.
The Stitcher Dragon - mad scientist Frankenstein type, he lost his limbs to dark elves and lived in disgrace until a wealthy artificer bought him, he learned from him and of course betrayed but now he has mechanical limbs and his wings are this sort of skeletal medical tool canopy that descends on his victims. He could mutate/stich up people in combat with some weird limbs and such.
    - Blue
The Empress of Storms - inspired a bit by Iymrith from SKT, this dragon ate so many storm giants that she can now change into one and also kicked out the giant king from his storm which she absorbed. So now she is the top of the storm food chain and governs a country inspired by Greece and spiced up with tesla motives because of the prevalence of lightning and electricity.
Sandstorm Dragon - This one is true to its name having mastered some wind magic and now using it to blackmail cities and caravans, also using its breath of some lightning elemental effect to add glass shards to the already brutal winds.
    - Red
Forge King - a dragon fascinated by the act of creation which he decided to master. Somehow successful he went around conquering and kidnapping the greatest smiths to teach him more and now he sits under his volcano forging away and causing earthquakes. He has a full set of adamantine armor and a gigantic hammer he also utilizes.
The Dynasty Head - this is heavily inspired by Chinese fiction as I could really picture a red dragon feeling great in this fantasy martial arts society of strength. And so maybe shape shifted this one has established a clan of its own and trains people in the way of the dragon and schemes against the other clan leaders.
    -Gold
Mouse Archmage - a dragon so old he went senile and decided he'll live as a mouse and did. But a dragon can't stop being a dragon so he stumbled his way through awakening other mice, teaching them magic and creating a community of secret mouse wizards. In dragon form he wears a special harness with many pockets from which his apprentices can bombard the enemy with spells.
The Judge - Divine aid empowered this is law incarnate, it could announce that in this area "within reason and backed by protocol" magic is forbidden and it would be. But it has to be justified.
    - Silver
Th Good Lady - a paladin dragon that established many orders and flies into battle with her trusted rider companion with banners fluttering behind her wings and blessings spewing from her mouth.
Mirror Dragon - this one crossed over to the mirror dimension and lives almost exclusively in there. The fight would be based around reflective surfaces since it could make the physical suffer what the reflection did.
    - Bronze
The Pirate and The Admiral - estranged mated pair dragons one becoming the pirate ruler the other the admiral and both fighting for their ideals. The admiral could teleport ships and the pirate could control the beasts of the sea.
    - Copper
Labyrinth Maker - ultimate obstacle course, ninja warrior enthusiast this one lives for creating ever more complicated traps. From harmless to deadly the ground is not on your side when fighting this one.
    - Brass
Merchant - in order to meet as many people and talk as much as it can this one set up a extradimensional bazaar that appears in random places to trade and exchange stories, angles, devil, demon, mortal, everyone is welcome as long as they bring something to barter and a good attitude. Try causing trouble though, the army of animated objects and clutter golems will sort you right out.
Oasis Dragon - this one guards and creates oases for travellers by breathing water and then magically growing plants around it.

Hybrid dragons (wolf dragons, bear dragons, tiger dragons, etc) would be super cool! This allows some interesting abilities to slap onto dragons like Pack Tactics. This could be a similar idea to half-dragons and draconic bloodline sorcerers. Definitely seeing a certain giant weapon in their maw that they craft and use would be super interesting (wolf with a greatsword, tiger with a katana/long sword, bear with a greataxe, etc). Just a weird idea I thought of.

Another dragon idea was Nazriphael, Wrath of the Sky. A silver scaled storm wyvern i created as the Apex monster of Book of Storms, a microcampaign in my 6 part campaign. My players get themselves washed ashore after delving into a storm system on a ship. Now on an island system called The Stormborn Isles, surrounded by viking-like dwarven clans and beast rider tribes in the wilds, they have to broker diplomacy between them to get to the bottom of a storm system keeping the Islands prisoner, brewing tensions and denying the dwarves access to pirate the seas. Eventually the players work with these factions to piece together a time line of when and why these storms began to occur and that they were caused by a single apex predator. Climbing to the top of a massive spire (sort of like valstrax from monster hunter) my players challenge the sky, and Nazriphael shoots down WITH the lightning. Then it becomes a battle against the wildest force of nature as Nazriphael (merely a huge wyvern so not very large as far as dragons go), attacks often with lightning arc claw attacks almost feral-like, brings lightning down on the players, channels lightning durectly into the ground with an ability called "Charged Earth" that gives it more movement options and slightly increases damage as long as it is in this area. Movement ability "Ride the Lightning" is exactly what it sounds like, where Nazriphael basically teleports around as a bolt of lightning using legendary actions, causing damage upon landing near the players when it hits the ground. The crown jewel of it's abilities is a Lightning Particle Beam breath weapon that is literally just a line as far as the dragon can see, no range limit. This beam causes lightning damage in the line, but anyone caught within 5 feet of this line also recieves force damage and gets knocked back(Similar to how beam attacks in games and anime usually score things around the beam). Nazriphael is the idea that lightning is fast and powerful, its ruthless combo attacks and speed make it a tough fight for my players, making them think they're fighting an unstoppable force of nature rather than a big dragon health pool. Making a theme before the monster is always so rewarding, and it makes for epic encounters.

I'd like Dragons to be more like "realistic" creatures that evolved in a certain way because of environment, prey, predators, rivals, etc...So rather than linking them to a color, or to a concept, develop them in a more "natural" way considering various elements in their life and home. And that's what I'm trying to do for my future setting.

Part of the lore of dragons is that their magic shapes the land, rather than the land shaping the dragon. This why ice dragons live in cold when it doesn’t make much sense evolutionarily for something that deals cold damage to live where everything it eats is resistant to cold.

I decided for my Campaign, that my would would have What are called Wild Dragons! A Dragon Subspecies that became Cursed with Feralness, Rage, Degradation, and Ignorance. They would become shells of what True Dragons were, as they aren't of Mind to cast Magic but have Innate/Instinctual Strengths and power! They exist to Explain why Lesser Drakes, Wyverns, Hydras, and Sea Serpents Exists.
Cause you have to wonder, Why are their so many D&D Worlds (and Pathfinder) where True Dragons tend to Exist everywhere, From Chromatic Dragons, Metallic Dragons, Gem, And God-like Dragons are able to thrive, speak to other races, and live among them. While also existing in the same world with Dumber, Aggressive, if not Incredibly Violent Dragon-like variations of themselves. That has to Offend Dragons to some Extent!
So I why not have TRUE DRAGONS be a rarity in the World? Creatures that have survived using their intelligence, while these Wild Dragons are the ones going around causing problems? It would make so much more sense in that regard.
Cause while True Dragons are Legit Threats, Wild/Feral Dragons are an inconvenience, They can be Huge, creatures that pose Incredible Dangers, viciously attacking other life-forms either out of need for food, being Territorial, Being overly Protective of their Environment, or maybe something much worse. Being used as a tool by some other force that desires utilize. Wild Dragons Have an Equal number of Functions that True Dragons have, the Age not being as much of a factor this time since regardless of their age, they are 100% Dangerous, and nobody wants to be around a One that could Tear a Whole Village apart!

I created a boss for the end of a microcampaign (part 5 of my 6 part full campaign im homebrewing completely from scratch) where my players investigate the holy city of a religion at the request of a "discgraced" ArchDeacon, who says corruption has begun to seed itself in the city. Paladins and clerics are breaking oaths, darkness seems to infect people's minds and hearts, and creatures of light are showing a strange purple light and going feral. My players will eventually investigate the high echelon of the clergy who had removed the NPC archdeacon from power, specifically the high soveriegn of the city who doubles as the Cardinal of the church and speaker of god. Once my players make it to the highest spire in the city that climbs to the sky, the Illuminant Sanctum, they eventually meet this god. A radiant attribute dragon called Zadkiel, Zenith of Radiance who has kept his existence hidden for thousands of years of the church. Eventually my players would discover that he's been seduced by a dark power and has been converting his very being to accept its gift, hence the darklight corruption around the city my players have been foreshadowed about and experienced. They fight him during the final stage of his metamorphosis, when he is still all radiant damage. I wanted the fight to be a battle against brilliance itself, so instead of the usual dragon claw and bite attacks, his claws can actually do smite damage like paladins, he fires radiant projectiles (sort of like bahamut from FF16)and rains light from the sky, fires particle light beams instead of using a traditional breath weapon as well as using radiant attribute spells, showing my players what it truly means to challenge a god. Once the players clear that phase does Zadkiel change to a darklight form once his metamorphosis is complete. Now facing Zaphkiel, Darklight Eminence do my players realize how challenging a hybrid Dark/light damage Dragon will test their resistances while being immune or having resistance to more of their damage. Using now necrotic and radiant damage spells and attacks, his light bathed in a purple hue giving life to the Darklight fantasy that this battle is, my dragon will show my players the cost of their sin against a self proclaimed god. Now im a relatively new DM, just half a year, and a month more as a player. Im fresh to this game but have a fit writers mind, and am an avid gamer. Hundreds of hours of boss fights and a writer's creativity, i hope my players enjoy the things i create for them. I know i do.
