Exploring Military Radar Base In The Clouds

- I do not encourage anyone to enter culverts, unclog anything, or enter flooded areas as it can easily become deadly without the proper training
I unclog drains for fun in my spare time (I have been trained in culvert inspections for years with private co.) and I am osha trained.
Exploring anything abandoned can be dangerous or deadly without experience. I don't encourage anyone to enter any abandoned structures. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal, and when possible I seek out permission from the owner or local police. I simply go to document its history before it's gone forever and I leave things the way I find them. I only take pictures and only leave footprints. I assume all the risks and responsibility before doing this. Please don't attempt to do this on your own. There could be nails, asbestos, falling concrete, soft floors, animals, or other hazards. Thanks for watching.

100% Right Post. Always scout the route beforehand on Foot 👍👍
My dad was stationed at this very air base from 1956 to 1958 as a radar operator (911th Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron). I've been up there many times over the years and it's cool to imagine him in the barracks below, and working up at the top of the mountain. Thanks for this tour!

I agree with comment that the "rail" on top is for the radome that covered the rotating antenna. The vacuum tubes that powered those radars were enormous. That is what the hoists are for. By 1963, the DEW Line in the Arctic had been operational for six (6) years, and the need for this station was gone. DEW line stations had a new radar that could detect bombers to 180 miles, and became the primary radars for NORAD. The previous Pinetree Line, and Mid-Canada were decommissioned, as was this base. All pieces that could be used at other stations became spares, and the buildings mothballed.
Oh shit man! This video was recommended to me on the front page, it captivated me. I went to subscribe and saw I was already subscribed, and then I realized you were the same guy who clears out drains and culverts and had subscribed from those videos. I'm going to have to spend some more time on your channel cause you got some great videos. Keep up the great work.
My bed + this video = the perfect night. I needed a good distraction and this is it. Thank you! 😊
Thanks Post!! I was very happy to see a 2 hour video posted. And I'm only 38 minutes in, just got to the beavers part. Most youtubers would have made the 37 minutes of content so far into at least 3 different videos. So glad you like making long form content. It's like we are exploring with you.
Many viewers lose interest after 20 minutes and many Americans can't handle a movie beyond 1 hour and 29 minutes so how did they "Handle lord of the rings"?
"Pretty soon this whole place will belong to the beavers" - I love this quote 'cause you could say it about all of Earth, eventually. Hope you do more videos like this. Like all your videos, it was so enjoyable to watch, every moment!
No you couldn't stop lying
If its any interest to anyone...we visited our son this summer who is in the military and stationed in Germany- there were serviceberry bushes and sweet cherry trees planted around the base. We walked around and enjoyed eating fresh cherries right off the trees there! So its possible the government planted those for those stationed there? This video, in rainy, autumnal Vermont makes me want a hot cup of chocolate and a warm fluffy blanket to snuggle in and watch it. I love Vermont! Thanks for taking us there!❤
exploring abandoned buildings are truly amazing- the feeling is insane although it’s rare to find them
Thanks for taking us along. Your commentary makes it interesting
@post. 10 it says “if your looking she is in the the bottom of the floor” 1:32:22. Outstanding exploration. I like to imagine what it was like in its prime.

Should be investigated.
Yep it's she's not shoes.
Hey just wondering how much asbestos did u come across. And I'm guessing it was in the installation.
As to why the stairs did not go to the top- those radars were dangerous when operating. Only certain personnel were authorized to go up top. The radars were classified, as well.
No one should be on the roof while the system was running. The RF power was very high power and would have been deadly.
I like your culvert clearing videos... but I must admit that I enjoy your urban exploring videos even more! This one was great!
With your enthusiasm and the way you talk to us as if we're there with you post 10 you could make exploring a cardboard box exciting for your audience. Thank you very much really enjoyed this one.
Thanks for the tour of someplace I will probably never see myself. My uncle was in the Air Force, a returning POW who then worked at radar stations in the eastern US. Not sure which one but this gave me an idea of how remote he could have been.😊it was top secret stuff back in the day!
20:20 Many military installations in the 1950s were built with central steam plants (i.e. one big boiler) rather than each building having to heat a separate boiler. Downtown Seattle has a functioning municipal steam plant which can be connected to within 5 miles of the plant. The 1910s apartment building I lived in Seattle was connected to Seattle municipal steam.
More towns should do that, it's more efficient although I want to have my own heating Source in case of a shutdown
Those aren't trees, they are weeds.
Ooh, another lovely long one! This is so unbelievably gorgeous - the green everywhere, oh my gosh. Post 10, I'm SO happy you chose that day to go - I love the rain and the bits of fog...narrow roads through the trees. It's like a fantasyland for me especially since here in the southwest it's been so hot and brown. This is spectacular! ❤ 👍 🥰 This is one I'll watch again. Thank you so much for your videos.
The first thing Christopher Columbus said when he discovered America and stepped on the land was "Just exploring anybody here?"
When he whaaaat? 😂😂
It’s always cool to watch these 2 hour videos. Thank you for the work you do man, take care!
Hey, don't I see you all the time on Styx videos?
Thumbs up for just allowing us to take it in. Like when you mentioned the crows squalking and water dripping on metal. War time ruins are highly interesting for sure.
I love the excitement and joy you show us when you are having fun and finding cool things. I was very uneasy when you were exploring the towers. I kept saying No. Don't go in there.😱. I also love the rain and fog. Another awesome video. Thank you Post10.☮️💖🎶
I rode my mountain bike up there in '95, along with a friend. Back then, the ladders to the top of the towers seemed pretty sketchy, but the view was amazing. Coming down was a rush, going around the switchbacks with the trees right next to us.
Always keeping us guessing.. "what's next for post?" Thanks for bringing us for the ride along
Post, you're the man! LOVE your content, especially the camping vids. I saw you the other day at a store but didn't want to bother you,I know that's not your style haha thank you for everything you do!!!!
Lovely woods. It’s so dense & I imagine it smells great except for the damn diesel. I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying this on my little phone screen.
Beautiful. Also you talk just enough, keeps me engaged.
Thank you
I just don’t understand why people have to graffiti/vandalize abandoned buildings. Can’t they just leave these historic places alone? I mean, visit them, but don’t destroy them! Is nothing sacred anymore? Beautiful job on the video nonetheless. ❤❤
it's mostly teens and frustrated young adults that do that , a lot of them also need psychiatric help, which poor people don;t get in the us of a

Wonderful adventure. Love hearing your observations while exploring abandoned places, and YOU in general. Thanks dude.
Great video Post, your like a kid in a candy store, I remember that feeling of exploration. Well done.
I'm so glad you posted a long video!!!! I love your videos because you give so much detail and explanation on what you are exploring!!! Also, you are very cautious about safety and I am glad you do. Keep up the fantastic work ❤🎉❤
Your adventures and editing has become better and better with time, well done.youre officially a professional and I want to thank you for your time and knowledge sharing.i look forward to your adventures with every new post.take care and again thank you.
I love the length of this video. I know it's a lot your time but I sure appreciate it. Great narration descriptions are right on. I get a little nervous looking down over the edge especially of the tall tall towers edge good job. I don't get dizzy though from your moving the camera you're doing a really good job with that you're a natural thank you Post 10😊
you are like LGR, where he finds the strange & neat old computers & things, you find all the strange & neat old buildings & things, love it.
I found some info online and it said 144 men was stationed there for about 8 years. They lived and worked there. They had a living quarters, theater, mess hall and many other amenities.
It baffles me why people have to destroy abandoned buildings 🤬
look at the evidence of low class individuals lol. post10 is amazing lmao
@@Digitalgems9000these comment are evidence of snobs😂
@@Digitalgems9000yeah that sucks. Probly had bad parents raise them.
They are going to sell the property soon and demolish it .. I’m sad to see it go I live nearby and this has always been an awesome place to explore
its urban culture sadly its everywhere now in music TV social media trained young people from all lives to be like them .
I just recently found your channel so I haven't watched many videos yet. This one is fantastic and the weather made it even more spectacular. I love locations like this. The foggy, misty weather fit the scene perfectly. If you pause the video in some spots it looks like a shot from a Spintires Mudrunner game. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
I totally agree with Post's assessment of the rather dreary weather conditions. I find it has a calming aesthetic, and adds a certain thoughtfulness to my perspective. Definitely influenced by my personality... LOL..
Just watched your most recent Q&A video. On that video, I left a comment asking if you had any plans to go exploring any abandoned places.
Today, I wake up and see a 2 hour exploration video! Thank you so much for the wonderful content. I'm starting my morning off with a cozy video and a nice smoothie. Thanks, Post!
*Edit* I'm sure you have your own safety measures, but as someone who's explored alone, make sure someone knows where you are and when you get there!
I explored an abandoned town alone once, and when I went to leave I noticed I wasn't alone.... I got out of there asap LOL.
Another awesome adventure, now to watch version 2! Thanks Post 10!!
You are truly my favorite RUclipsr! You produce such great content, it’s always interesting and I love seeing your neck of the woods! Love from the West Coast ❤
I explored your neck of the woods last year in my Western playlist, thanks for watching
The trough coming out of the radar tower was likely a cable chase for all the comm cables connecting back to one of the buildings.
Wow you make the best abandoned exploration videos! I love how much you explain everything you’re awesome😁
Very excited to watch this adventure! Thank you Post for everything you do - hats off to you sir 🎩
Post I love going on vacation with you but this one made my toes curl and put my stomach in knots! The beauty of this and the height you climbed. I think I watched with one eye open lol. Thanks Post !
I am having so much fun watching this. Great job. Thank you!
Have been binging some really good content from you. Love vids like these.
Oh. my. Gosh! Incredible video and beyond beautiful. Thanks for the cool adventure Post10, stay cool and always praying for your safety! Cheers! ❣️🍀
It is kinda cool when multiple people go to the same location. You can see how the site changes over time, and this is a pretty popular location. Even Proper People went here.
I never skip over your videos my friend! I like to see everything, the journey is always as good as the destination. 🤩 I remember this place from The Proper Peoples video, they camped up here.
This guy is my exact type. He’s the total opposite from me. Competent, fearless, with no vanity whatsoever. He sees rust and he touches it. I love it.
As is often the case you’ve made my day with your passion and enthusiasm. What a treat this video is👌🏻
Love this. You are very informative about everything you do
Love all your videos! Thank you for taking us with you on all your adventures!
This was great 👍. Being on those roofs would have been too much for me and some of the buildings were a little creepy. I don't know how you can explore these places alone. Great video Post!
Love your videos man. Glad you hav the ability and patience to make them for us to enjoy
"evidence of low class individuals" 🤣 also the "poop deck" 😂 this video was amazing!
Dude this is so badass. I am so glad to see an explorer who's got enough spine to walk across crumbly floors and going to sketchy situations. My hat is off to you bro and I'm putting this on the list of places I will explore myself. Thank you for this incredible video experience!
2 hours Post10. That's a good evening 👍👍👍.
Post 10 is the best 👌
Greetings Helmer 🇳🇱
That was such a fun explore, thanks post 10. Loved it.
A very nice trip. Thanks Post 10. From New York
*Two hours!!* I guess I know what I'll be doing tonight! 😊👍
Any second of this journey would make a fantastic calendar ! Breathtaking…
This space was definitely spooky with all the fog and bush, I'm sure it would've made a creepy Halloween video! Thanks for the movie Post 😉👍
I was yelling "Get out of there!" but you obviously didn't hear me. That looked like an absolute death trap. Looking at those derelict buildings and all that fog made me think that Stephen King would have a ball writing a book about that place. I half expected some killer clown (or Jason) to pop out of some hidden room somewhere...that is another reason I was yelling at you to get out of there. I love your designation of people who scribble on these places and leave their trash behind as "low class individuals". Without using any profanities, you give a very clear picture of your opinion of the type of person who thinks they have to desecrate these places. BTW, I agree with you 100 percent!
The message on the steps said "If *your* looking *SHES* at the bottom of the floor". They did not use contractions or they would have said, "If *you're" looking, *she's" at the bottom of the floor." Maybe they were hinting that you would find a body somewhere in here. Yep, this is definitely a place Stephen King could use as a setting for one of his books.
You should write a book! What a imagination
About holes for the toilets, they probably were never in the ground. A lot of commercial/institutional buildings have wall mounted units, so everything goes into a trunkline in/behind the wall that allows for more accessibility to the plumbing for cleanout/work.
This was one of the most enjoyable exploration videos I've ever watched. Felt like I was hanging out with a friend. Didn't need any background music, the ambience was perfect as is and cool/creepy with the towers looming in the fog. Excellent 👍👍
A very cool exploration. Loved the mist, it just added to the mystery
Lived in central vt for 8 yrs when I was working for uncle Sam. Wife who is from VT took me all over northern vt. Never knew of this place and I'm familiar with the area. Loved doing this with my 4x4 as there is a lot of hidden history there. Wish I knew of this place. I don't miss vt at all. Hate rain and clouds. The politics and expense suck but it is a pretty state. My 4x4 days are over but I still love to live through your videos. Thanks. In the desert now. Dry no rain.
Videos like this one have become my favorites by Post10 👍
This is your best video. I was stationed in the late 60's in SD, and our site was located on the main road, not as exciting as this location .
Wow what a cool place to explore. Weather was just right too. Thanks for sharing!
Watched the whole video. I love your unclogging videos but this was epic as well. Thanks for bringing us along! :D
Thank you for taking us with ya on this trip!
The graffiti on the stairs at 1:32:00 says 'If you're looking, she's at the bottom of the floor ' as in someone killed someone and hid her under the floor. Be careful man, there's crazy people in this world
I'm curious as to if he would've understood ir and looked, if he would've found a body
Yeah are we just going bro skip over this ??! Im sure a family could get some closure and it would cost nothing to phone it in
A fascinating video! I really enjoyed this explore and even though I’d seen a video from this location before, your narration style made it so much more interesting. I also learnt about beaver dams and I loved the photo roll at the very end.
This was very cool. We had no idea this place existed. Mum about had a heart attack watching you on the roof! Its a beautiful spot.
Love the long exploration videos, thanks postie 🙏
There's no mould in the gym area due to the natural airflow with all the doors and windows missing. More chance of moss growing rather than mould. Great upload as per usual mate.👍🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful! What a find! What a day! Thanks for bringing us 😊
Post. I love these videos. I'm a city boy from Jersey and your videos keep me interested and entertained. I've stayed in new Hampshire for 6 months. I loved it.
Do you do these explorations by yourself? I'd be nervous to go way out in the middle of nowhere by myself, especially in case of an emergency.
Another greath video by the way. Between your food videos and explorations, I think you have one of the best channels on RUclips!
Yeah, it seems risky to be alone climbing on stuff 60 years abandoned.
Dont be afraid, just mindful and things will be alright 😊

One of your best exploring video's ever! Breathtakingly amazing!
I used to do asbestos removal on an army base. I can’t believe they didn’t have that asbestos removed before they shut it down. That’s kind of crazy and the fact that they just leave it like that is crazy oh well, 😮😊
I'm pretty sure all these buildings were tightly secured when they abandoned it, people ripped all the doors off and broke all the windows and cut all the rebar that was welded in
@@post.10 yeah, no doubt people went in and destroyed everything
In the 1960s, asbestos was still being installed, so they probably saw no reason to remove it with no safety concerns.
@desert-walker Hopefully karma gave them a healthy dose of disturbed asbestos then.
I love leaving my four walls with you, great stuff.
I am surprised that you did not clear the damn for it would drain.. I was hoping that you would. I love watching you clear those..
Absolutely excellent video Post10👍👍👍
Really great video! Thanks for showing most of us the areas and things we will never get to see in person! Your videos are some of the most genuine and interesting on youtube!
AMAZING! THE FOG JUST MAKES IT EVEN BETTER! THANKS!
Your truck seems very capable. Very awesome video and shame folks ruin places like this, would be great to see the natural decay, not the destruction from others.
The boxes on the wall in the broiler room is the typical “parts bins”. All the nuts, bolts, washers and large parts and so on are kept there, easy to see and grab
1st time seeing your adventures. This video reminded me of the good ol' days when my best friends and I would explore the woods. You remind me of one of them, thanks for sharing your experience, it made me happy to come along. Subscribing to go along on more! Stay safe man, God bless your travels.
