A very real reaction 🎯! I see 👁👁 that you have reacted to Howard Hewett as a solo artist before: Show Me. I'm For Real was released as the lead single from Howard Hewett's 1986 album: I Commit To Love. It was written by Howard Hewett. It was produced by Howard Hewett and Stanley Clarke. The song reached #2 on the R&B chart and #90 on the Hot 100. The music video was directed by Dominic Sena. Yes, his voice 🗣 is pure butta, baby girl!
    Howard Hewett Info 📰:
Howard Hewett Jr was born on October 1, 1955 in Akron, Ohio. He is a singer, music producer and songwriter. He rose to fame as the lead vocalist of the R&B group Shalamar from 1979-1984. In 1985, he left the group to pursue his solo career and signed a recording contract with Elektra Records. In 1986, he released his debut solo album: I Commit To Love. Howard Hewett and his group Shalamar contributed material to the 1984 film: Beverly Hills Cop, movie soundtrack. The movie soundtrack won a Grammy Award for Best Score Soundtrack for Visual Media in 1986.
Raised in Akron, Ohio Howard Hewett moved to Los Angeles, California in 1976, where he first met Jeffrey Daniel and Jody Watley at a night club in the LA Crenshaw district. Howard Hewett formed a live show group called "Beverly Hills" and toured throughout Europe, the UK, Scandinavia and Asia for all of 1977 till the middle of 1978. After returning from overseas, Howard Hewett started recording for former Motown Records music producer Jeffrey Bowen.
In 1978, he got a call from Jeffrey Daniel whose group Shalamar was in need of a lead singer and Howard Hewett accepted the offer. Within three days Howard Hewett flew to New Jersey, where he met up with Jody Watley and Jeffrey Daniel and started recording the album: Big Fun (1979). Shalamar with Howard Hewett as the lead singer went on to record some classic songs including: "Second Time Around", "Make That Move", "A Night To Remember", "Dancing In The Sheets" and "This Is for The Lover in You".
When Shalamar broke up in the mid-1980s, Howard Hewett went on to a solid solo career. However, in 1985 before signing his solo deal with Elektra Records, he was arrested and indicted in Miami with his fiancée Mori Molina for possession with an intent to distribute cocaine. Mori Molina, who was indicted in Tampa as well as Miami, was convicted and served prison time; but after a four-day trial, in which Mori Molina testified that Howard Hewett had nothing to do with the crime, Howard Hewett was acquitted of all charges. In spite of his legal battles, Howard Hewett signed his solo deal with Elektra Records and in 1986, before the Miami trial, released his first solo album: I Commit to Love (R&B number 12), a solid album that yielded two top 10 R&B hits songs: "I’m For Real" (R&B number 2) and "Stay" (R&B number 8).
In 1988, he released his second album: Forever And Ever, which featured the hit songs: "Strange Relationship" (R&B number 9) and "Once, Twice, Three Times" (R&B number 15).
In 1990, Howard Hewett released his self-titled album, which included the hit songs: "Show Me" (R&B number 2), and "If I Could Only Have That Day Back" (R&B number 14).
1992 saw the release of his 4th album: Allegiance, which was not received as well as his previous albums. He contributed to the second season theme song of the NBC television series: Hangin' With Mr Cooper, which was a remake of Sam & Dave's 1967 R&B Top 10 hit song: "Soul Man".
In 1994, Howard Hewett recorded the song: "Christmas Will Return", with Brenda Russell for the Disney holiday film: The Santa Clause.
In 1995, Howard Hewett released the album: It's Time, which contained the singles: :This Love Is Forever" (R&B number 35) and "I Wanna Know You" (R&B number 61).
In 1996, Shalamar reunited on a Babyface remake of their classic song: This Is For The Lover In You, which included a couple of live performances and a music video. There was talk of another Shalamar album but the project never manifested.
In 1997, Howard Hewett appeared in the film: B.A.P.S. as himself.
Howard Hewett spent much of his time in the late 1990s and early 200s providing guest vocals on albums by Jazz artists including: Joe Sample, Brian Culbertson and George Duke, among others.
In 2000, The Rippingtons featured Howard Hewett on the song: "I Found Heaven", from their album: Life In The Tropics album.
