Green Day's bread and butter right here. They have a lot of songs about mental health and dealing with sobriety. A song from their newst album "Saviors" has a single called The Dilemma which is exactly about Billie Joe's struggle with sobriety, no hidden message, straight to the point. It's such a raw song, would be cool if you gave it a listen!

My understanding is that the song is about the anxiety that Billie Joe Armstrong was experiencing around this time. Dookie is/was a great album.

This album "Dookie" is one of the first cds I ever bought with my own money. Still in my top 10 easily of great total albums from start to finish. "Welcome to Paradise" is another great not as well known song from the album.

Nice throwback. Saw them back in the early 90s just before they had their big breakthrough in a small club with maybe 100 people (and the place was packed, it was that small). Great show, they really deserved the success. Esp. since they didn't even had to "sell out" for it. The songs on "Dookie" could have easily been on one of the first two records.

This album made Green Day my favorite band way back when. I just saw them live at Fenway Park in Boston. They put on an amazing show and played for two hours and twenty minutes. It will be very hard to beat that show in the future.

People did not take the lyrics seriously as Green Day where labled as a punk band. We thought it was a great song with some cool lyrics not to be taken too seriously. They also wrote a song about being too lazy for self pleasure. The way the songs on this album are delivered it is hard to take them too seriously. I always took this to be just a fun light hearted song but if you listen to their songs American Idiot and Holiday they felt like they had more serious lyrics, but the music kind of watered this down. It is not uncommen for songs to have upbeat music but serious or depressing lyrics. The Kids Arent Alright by The Offspring. It would be a very depressing song if not for the lyrics. If you listen to the last studio album by Nirvana is very depressing as the music and vocal often match the somber lyrics. Still a great album but messed up at the same time. The band that their music match the lyrics the best is System of a Down. They sing about some difficult topics and you feel the message by the tone of the songs. Granted they have some weird songs and vocals but they just make some amazing hard hitting songs. Linkin Park is another one that the music and vocals matches the lyrics. I like to find out about songs that sound happy due to the music and obscure lyrics but the actual meaning is quite sad. Some people have even used every breath you take as their wedding song but it is actually a stalker song. The music and vocals are upbeat, fun and catchy but also water down the disterbing lyrics of a man obsessed with his ex wife. Well that is what i have read about the song. More 90s Rock please.

the first song i ever heard from greenday was 'warning' back in 2000 and i legit thought they were a british punk band, they had that vibe about them. then came american idiot which was a phenomenal album but had more of an alt-rock sound, and now they're kind pop-rock imo. so plenty to discover and work through with these guys.

So what you really mean is you just now found out that they’ve ALWAYS been left leaning anti-government liberals that happen to also support people’s freedom to love whoever they want. Right? Because none of those things are new to the band, they’ve always had those beliefs and always been vocal about them, so who exactly are they “pandering” to?
