    I cry almost every time when I see him sing this song. My father passed away from bone marrow cancer and he had some of the same mannerisms Toby does, especially how he moved his mouth at the end. I miss my pops, and I am gonna miss Toby and his music. RIH Toby. You were and still are an inspiration and larger than life. Truthfully, I shed tears writing this. Daing it

    He got the idea of the song from Clint Eastwood who was about to start directing a new movie at age 88. He asked Clint how he did it. Clint told him, “I just get up every morning…and I don’t let the old man in”. Toby loved the line & turned it into a song.

      Thanks for the info. This was my first time hearing the song and I thought he was talking about death. Now, knowing the line originated with Clint Eastwood, I can see where it could mean that he refuses to think of himself as an old man, with all the frailty and limitations associated with advanced age. It certainly works for Clint. Let’s pray that it helps Toby in his fight.

    He wrote this song before he was diagnosed with cancer. By some of his interviews about this song, it seems he's talking about not letting your life change just because of your age. He wrote this song because he was so amazed that at the age of 88 Clint Eastwood was still directing and acting in movies despite his age. He asked him How do you do it?? Clint said I get up & go outside every day, and I dont let the old man in. Clint Eastwood is now 93. God Bless Clint and Toby rest in heaven.

Walk with Jesus, believe in a higher power. When it is your time to go, if you have been gifted by longevity as I have been, don't complain, so many young are dying right and left today. If you can make someone smile, put a smile on their face, why would you not????

    This is what makes Toby Keith unique. The words came straight from the heart. When you are young thoughts like this may cross your mind. But you don't dwell on it and one day when you are older you think to yourself. It's inevitable we all have to face it. It's a sad reality but it's the truth no one wants to die but now the time is here and you graciously and courageously face the moment of truth. It's your time but you really don't want to go..You say to yourself there's more time. But the Lord has the final say and it's time for you to go.. It's a sad reality and then we face it.
    Rest in peace Toby Keith with your words all of us face reality. Thank you for the years of beautiful music an great memories an beautiful songs.A person's life is not measured by wealth and worldly things.But what keeps our memory alive is how much we are loved by others.Amen🎉💜 you fought courageously and valiantly Amen

    Sadly, TK was going to go to a specialist in FL the day after he died. He did an interview that day, Feb 4, and spoke of the hope he had with this new cancer dr. I loved TK. He was my favorite. Our daughter was born and Whiskey Girl was playing on CMT videos. I’ve been a fan since he just started and he was before for Rick Trevino who was opening for Sawyer Brown. TK was the best. He did things his own way, and I admired him so much for that. He was a horse breeder, an incredible family man, he supported our military with many many many trips to play for our troops. I’m just beginning to not sob when I see a picture or hear a song or a tribute. RIP TK.

    R.I.P Toby. Clint Eastwood inspired the words as much as Toby's battle with cancer, by providing the words. Toby asked Clint, how do you keep going making all the films. Clint replied I just keep getting up, and don't let the old man in. So there you go, the song was presented to Clint, he liked it so much it was included in Eastwoods film The Mule.
    Live every day as though it's your last, be good to yourself and others.

    This is Toby just after receiving the Country Icon Award at the Country Music People's Choice Awards show two weeks ago. If anybody deserves an icon award, it's Toby. The "old man" in this song is definitely the Grim Reaper, who's been knocking on Toby's door for several years now. It's good to see that he's managed to keep that door closed so far. Prayers for Toby.

    Toby said that he had asked his friend Clint Eastwood, who was on his way to Florida to shoot a movie, how he was able to be so active at age 93. Clint said I Don't let the old man in. As I approach age 70....It's easy for me to take the meaning behind this song....Do not go lightly into that good night

  • @michaelcates7788
    @michaelcates7788 2 месяца назад

    Toby asked Clint Eastwood, "what are your Birthday plans on 3 days?88 th. Birthday. Clint said, "shooting a movie". Toby asked, "how do you do it, keep going"? Clint said that he keeps moving, & doesn't let the old man in. Toby commented on starting that right away. A song. Wrote it in 2 days, & sent it to Clint. Clint liked song, & actually put it in movie, The Mule, that he was shooting. I believe the "old man", "Don't Let The Old Man In", is the old man inside. Clint was 88, & doesn't let the old man in. He still doesn't. He's 92 now. Great Song, & Great Story behind it.

I think Toby Keith felt it in his bones.. and he knew the Old Man was knockin' and it was gettin cold outside. Thank you for reacting and showing real thought and emotion in your reactions.

    I think it's cause of age, he was 62, I just turned 62 but am a woman, I think it's age , older one gets. His Faith was VERY STRONG. His love for God was just as strong as well. His family was his Rock too and friends. The part how old would you be if you couldn't remember the day you were born.. Was lik he was talking about Alzheimer's or dementia. My dad had Alzheimer's last stage and he fell and broke hip. He was home a wk when he passed Dec.16th, 2022. My mom died Feb. 14th, 2023. So not only do I grieve for them but for Toby too. It's life, he lived it too the fullest. He loved his family, his friends and his music.l

    That song is heart wrenching, knowing his health etc, but it went perfectly with the movie too. 'The Mule' Clint was 89 when he released the movie in 2018 & it was based on a crime by a 90 year old in the news in 2014. I love everything Toby does & hope you get time to do more. He has so many sides to his music, he can bring out a ton of different emotions.

    In my teens I thought I had forever, everyday brought on a new challenge and dreams of something exciting just around the corner. Got married in my early 20s and had 2 beautiful kids, 20s was awesome and fun. Stress started taking over in the 30s and went by pretty fast but enjoyed my kids and wife , wonderful times. 40s was a dream, went to bed one night 40 and woke up 50, So crazy. We can do our best to not let the old man in but he's coming in, when we except it and find Christ you find peace.
