Toby Keith was a man among men…non-compromising in all things important to him!

He is friends with Clint Eastwood & when he asked Clint how he keeps going, Clint said I get up & go outside & don't let the old man in. Toby went & wrote the song & gave it to Clint & Clint used it in his movie -'The Mule' in 2018. This fits perfectly for this performance which was September 2023. He was receiving the People's Choice County Icon award. ~ He lost his friend Wayman Tisdale to Cancer & wrote an amazing song called 'Cryin' for me' & it is perfect to play now, because we are all feeling what he describes in his song. My heart is broken.

This is a rare occasion where I am speechless, I had not seen this video and it hit hard. Yes, I'm sure that was his wife you saw in the audience, I know they were married for decades. I always say toby could make you laugh, cry and everything in between but this was a tough to not tear up one. Thank you toby for the years of entertainment and God comfort your loved ones, and to quote him, " see you on the other side" really appreciate the video and very thoughtful commentary

He wrote this for Clint Eastwood in 2018 from the line Clint gave him...don't let the old man in...when Toby asked Clint about aging. There is a video of Toby telling this story.

He wrote it because of what Clint Eastwood said to him, after he asked Clint, how do you keep doing it?, Clint said, I don't let the old man in.. something like that.

I’m a metal head, but my Grandma loved country music so I was familiar with that genre. Toby Keith was my favorite! He was the first country artist I saw live. This song is gut wrenching; the look on his face spoke volumes. He knew he was leaving us soon. As I sit here bawling I’m very struck by the line “how old would you be if you didn’t know the day you were born?” Wow.

He wrote this beautiful song for Clint Eastwood, not knowing it would depict his situation in the future. RIP Toby.

It depicts everyone's future. "I knew all of my life that someday it would end." It is the same for us all. At some point the curtain will fall on all of us.

Toby was golfing with Clint Eastwood and Clint said Monday I turn 88. Toby asked him what he was doing for his birthday and Clint said filming The Mule. This inspired Toby to write this and give it to Clint who used it in The Mule

I'm pretty sure this was written about 2018-19, it's sad to see Toby, being the big man we remember and having his body devastated by such a terrible illness, now he's gone but he won't be forgotten. Prayers to his family. R. I. P. TOBY 🥺🥺🙏🙏🙏🙏

Drove by his home in Norman, Oklahoma, today and just teared up. I always have because of the huge American flag he has flown in his front yard since the day he built h is house. Lost a great talent and person. In Oklahoma there will never be another Toby Keith.

Have you been to Hollywood Corners? I want to visit there one day because he loved it so much.

@bf4744 Toby was very active in the Norman community and Hollywood Corners has been there for YEARS, a landmark. It was scheduled to be torn down and Toby stepped in to save it. Always thought he turned it into a place that was a good time in his youth, his Grandmother's place. And it was located just 5 minutes west of his home, so lots of fun without the long drive. Never been inside but was in the place as it was for years. Husband used to buy fishing bait there. But Toby made a very comfortable, entertaining place and renewed that special corner. He is and will always be very missed.
