  • This Video will show you how to replace your interior Fuse Box in your 05-09 Mustang (Also known as SJB-Smart Junction Box or Anti-Theft Fuse Box)
    How to tell if your box went bad?
    If you have a water leakage in the passenger side, you most likely need a new one.
    A way to tell if you need one (Self Diagnose)
    -All electrical systems inside are on 24/7
    (ex. Stereo, power windows, dome light, trunk light, etc...)
    -All electrical is off even tho you're car is on, Stereo wont turn on, power windows unresponsive, dome lights off, you're unable to turn on headlights, tail light, brake light, etc...
    This generation of mustangs have a common issue where the passenger side gets water leakage due to drainage getting clogged up due to leaves and other debris, Unclog every 6-12 months to avoid this during raining season!

    I'm getting a lot of questions regarding the BCM needing programming after replacing. Short answer is NO....not if it's a used unit that is, I had replaced the BCM (SJB/Anti-Theft Fuse Box) twice on this mustang and both times I just swapped them out without needing a reprogram. HOWEVER I cannot guarantee that this is the case for everyone! I know you will definitely need programming if installing a brand new fuse box for sure but as far as my personal experience I did not need programing after replacing mines. (Both parts were bought off of eBay used)
    Hope this helps a lot of you and hopefully it cleared some concerns about this needing programmed.

    Nice job... Ford has been paying millions of dollars to try and hide all of their screw ups on these vehicles and not have to take responsibility for their stupidity. Even these cars brand new were having that same exact battery issue, among all the other problems. So when people were having the cars looked at by Ford (because they obviously were still under warranty) the mechanics were told to just replace the battery and tell them it was a bad battery. That was never the case.. It took me 2 years to finally figure out all these problems so that l could actually rely on my car being able to start and work properly. I never could find any videos or suggestions on any forums that had the actual right answers to the problems. And that was due to Ford paying to have them removed from youtube and any online forums. Cheaper than recalling all the cars and fixing their own stupid mistakes. The battery issue is a problem in most from 04 to 08 l believe. The problem is the Shaker stereo. It continuously drains the battery even when the vehicle is off. I hooked up my elec tester and watched how much was being drained. Then l started pulling fuses 1 by 1 until l found the 1 that stopped the drain and it was the radio fuse under the hood. So l wasn't going to pop my hood to pull it every time l got out, so l actually just wired that fuse to a switch in my glove compartment so l can turn that one fuse off and turn it back on when l get in. You won't lose the memory settings or presets but it will always come on to am radio when you turn it on. Better than having dead batteries all the time. And the water that leaks onto the computer actually mostly comes the mirror and also from the weather seal above the passenger door window. So after l cleaned up all my fried pins and soldered in some replacements, l taped a piece of plastic poly above the computer and it goes over the comp all the way down to the floor and haven't had water get on it since. Thanks for the video showing people exactly whats going on with their mustangs. Otherwise people are trying everything that some random person will suggest to try replacing. And that gets really expensive when none of it is fixing the actual problem.

      2 years later and still relevant^
      After dealing with this and researching this for the past year and a half, in short I've gathered ford knows about this but refuses to admit it. Problems range from the fan relay burning the the point of melting and fusing together to the throttle thinking its wide open when its not. No doubt lots of liability if ford ever admitted to their mistake. Replacing mine soon with fingers crossed. Whatever the issue its no coincidence everyone experiences electrical issues, just sucks for people like myself who have had extra wear and tear on the motor from these problems causing more severe ones and dumping money in between. Feel very bad for the ones who may have lost their life or a loved one due to the issues I've witnessed such as the throttle thinking its wide open (and STUCK wide open unless the whole car is shut off) or all the lights and dash shutting off while still maintaining speed and running fine (or even better than before) in the middle of a night drive. 2008 Mustang GT owner. Ive tried manual switches for the relay ran outside of the fuse box, 60 amp relays, tried three brand new fans and connections, new water pump, new alternator, new batteries... still face the same issues and get a 'check charging system' message every-time I drive.

    Regarding the water leaks mentioned at the end, that is all true, but there's a second(perhaps more) possible source for major water leakage into the passenger foot well. I traced the problem myself several years ago when the amount of water was crazy after every time it rained and this comment is for anyone who may see this and either has that second leak or does in the future. For me, and I believe Ford has a bulletin that backs this up, it was the holes for the clips for the cowl cover. The clips have insufficient gaskets that don't seal well and deteriorate quickly. I believe they changed the gasket design for '07 or '08. For my '06, I used a weatherstrip adhesive to reinstall the clips. RTV would probably work well too. Of course, it's worth mentioning that there's a defect in the body of the car since the water shouldn't drain inside the car anyway, but that's out of our hands.
    Good to see what's involved here since I think my SJB is finally going bad. I've been lucky that it lasted so long for me(14 years), but I also tried to protect sensitive parts from water after I noticed a lot of water coming in. I used old plastic comic book bags I had around to direct the water away from important connectors and such. Not only am I getting some accessories turning on by themselves, my parasitic draw is high and killing my batteries. I got two warranty replacements, which was very lucky. Thanks for showing this and I may be doing this same fix very soon.

      Also there is weather stripping behind the plastic window/ door seal that goes bad. Pull the rubber window seal down and remove the plastic piece it snaps to and replace it. That’s where a lot of water can leak down to the passenger side

    Need some help! Let me start from the beginning. We had a rain storm which led to water getting into my passenger side my whole entire fuse panel bcm was soaked. My flashers was going off on its own. I took it out & took it apart, dried it out then sprayed electrical cleaner let it dry. Then repeated the process with the wire harness connections that connects to the fuse panel bcm. Once I was done with that I hooked it all up and I got a non start issue. Checked all fuses/ relays all was good. Checked battery with meter all was good. Checked starter all was good long story short I did a general basic diagnostic. All was good. I proceeded to lean towards that it was a faulty Fuse panel bcm so I ordered another one that matches mine. I received my car now starts and runs fine and my flashers are back to normal. Everything looks to be functioning correctly besides one issue that I did not have before all this! My car won’t get out of park now! Only way I’m able to take it out of park is the little bypass on the side of the shifter that you push in. Any suggestions to what may be going on now? Yes I checked the fuse again all is good I also checked the break light switch. All is good.

    • @dany5.084
      @dany5.084  Год назад +1

      Funny enough, I experienced that same issue the second time I had to replace the fuse box, the way I was able to "fix" this was disabling the shift interlock function on the vehicle. (I ended up having a mechanic doing this for me since at the time I didn't knew how to do this) the other option my mechanic told me (the expensive option) was replacing the entire shifter but wasn't guaranteed it'll fix the issue, so I decided to have him disable the shift interlock. but I must WARN YOU! If you go this route too, you're car will loose that function which in short terms, you'll be able to start the car up no matter what gear it's in which can be dangerous if you have the vehicle in drive or neutral. can roll away (the shift interlock is a safety feature, it prevents the car from starting if 1)the brakes aren't being applied and 2) the vehicle is not in park, therefore you will be messing with something that will disable a safety feature, do this at your own risk) other than that, this was the route I went and haven't had an issue since.
      Hope this helped out and good luck.

      @@angelrios5364 If the replacement one you bought came from another Mustang then it definitely has some sort of programming - and if the numbers match - based on my experience - it should work. However, if you bought the replacement SJB from a Ford dealer than I don't know if it will need programming to work. I suggest you just connect the replacement one and see how it works. Worse case, it does need to be programmed and then you just swap the current one back in until you have the money saved for reprogramming. I can't recall if I disconnected the battery when making the swap - but seems like you'd want to ensure all the power is off before disconnecting/reconnecting the SJBs. >>> I resolved most of my issues by replacing the SJB/BCM with a used one from ebay - BUT first make sure you've resolved any water leak issues which is the main cause of SJB/BCM problems. I'll paste below the verbiage I posted on another thread outlining what I did. Hope it helps!
      -----------
      Make sure you have sealed all the water entry points.
      1) I removed the rubber drain flaps below the windshield cowl that would sometimes get clogged and allow that area to fill with water and enter via the cabin air filter - no chance of clogging now.
      2) I also ordered/installed a replacement set of the heat sealing tab sockets that the tabs of the plastic cover under the wipers insert when being installed.
      3) I replaced foam sealant strips under the plastic trim around the upper door frames.
      4) (In case all that fails and there is still a leak) I wrapped a clear plastic sheet of plastic over the top, back and front of the BCM/SJB which should keep water from getting into the box/electronics.
      ALSO, Don't be afraid to buy a used BCM/SJB - as long as you: 1) make sure the numbers match exactly what you have now. 2) You buy it from a source that ideally tests it AND allows returns if it doesn't work. That's what I did (via ebay no less) and it has worked perfectly without any new programming. It felt risky but the $250 was much less than the $1,000+ the Ford dealer wanted for a new one and programming.

      I don't want to say it is the fuse box for sure, but if this started happening after a water leakage (if there was one) and the fuse box did get water damaged then it's possible, but hard to say for sure without further diagnostics, other possibility could be the ignition switch just went bad, I would say take it to a locksmith or shop that can diagnose your ignition switch, you might just have a bad switch there. apart from that, I can't say for sure that the fuse box is the one behind the problem. (but still a possibility, maybe just a fuse blew out in that fuse box)
      Hopefully this helps a bit.

      Yea the SJB box is a deliciated part of the electrical system, there's a chance it is that part since I had similar problems in the past like that too, sometimes when that box get's damaged, everyone will experience different issues since that box controls multiple interior components, sometimes it'll just affect a few features (in your case just the stereo) and in some cases (like me) where everything inside wasn't working (and I had it in the past where everything stayed on 24/7) your best bet is replacing that part or seeing if you can borrow one from a friend just to see if that fixes it, if it does than it's guaranteed the SJB box, best of luck

If you want everything to work the same as factory you will have to get it reprogrammed.

    • @dany5.084

      Sounds like it can be that same SJB box, the one I showed in the video. That box controls most of the electronics, in my case the windows didnt work, mirros, interior lights and shifter locked up. Replacing the SJB fixed my issue, but i bought it used (~$110 on ebay compared to $400 from dealership) that would be your best bet, especially since you did mention water leak, most likely box got water damaged. Hope that helps

    Hi! I know this is a really old video, but I have a quick question. I have the 08 mustang v6 convertible. I was told a certain number on the junction box barcode has to match otherwise you have to get it reprogrammed at the dealership. Is that true?

      I cannot confirm if this is true or not, I can however say the 2 times I had to replace this part I always made sure the part # matched exactly on both occasions. I just installed and they where working fine without programming, I did however lost that little feature when you lock/unlock the vehicle the flashers flash to indicate you locked/unlocked the car but im OK with that since everything else seems to works how it should (This was with used boxes from Ebay, can't say if it applies to brand new ones) hope this information helps

    my passenger side window doesn't roll down would that be the cause of it not working? • @dany5.084
      @dany5.084  4 года назад

      This is actually quite difficult to say, If everything is working for you apart from your window not working, it could just be that the window motor or regulator might have gone out, does your window not go down even if you try to roll it down using the passenger window switch? if the passanger window switch works then most likely the master window switch went out as well.
      If everything in your vehicle (Electrical related) and if you had a water leak in the passanger side then most likely you will need to replace that fuse box, but I would definitely consult an electrician before hand, that way you dont buy unnecessary parts. Hope that helps

    • @dany5.084
      @dany5.084  4 года назад

      I would look more into that, I would suggest checking your fuses/relays in the engine bay first, most likely one of those went or is going out, if everything there looks like it works and if you have a way to test them and confirm they are working then move on to the junction box, I can't guarantee that the box is whats causing it, but I would say go cheap route first by checking your other relays/fuses :)

      That sounds like It may be a problem on it's own. I recommend checking just the fuse that powers the climate control which is fuse #15 (10amp) fuse, You should have a diagram within the fuse cover if not you can pull the diagram up on google. if the fuse is fine then it may be a fuse in the engine bay that blown up or it may be something more serious but I can't tell you for sure. You might be lucky enough to just have to replace that 10amp fuse

      If you get it brand new, yes.
