A holiday in Bournemouth in 1961 is one of my earliest childhood memories [know the date from my parents photo album]. I remember the aviary in the park, which I do believe still exists. I also remember the pine trees and chestnut trees.

@@malcolmtilsed Thank you, although as I said, it is one of my earliest childhood memories, and I had not even began school at the time. The photos do jog the memory as well as giving the dates, but some are actual memories, as the pine and chestnut trees are not in the pictures, and neither are the yellow trolleybuses, another memory. They would not have helped regarding the yellow buses as my parents used black and white film, although latter visits confirmed them, although they were no longer trolleybuses by then.

@@malcolmtilsed The border was changed in 1974 because it went through the middle of the Bournemouth/Poole conurbation.

Bournemouth used to call itself "The Queen of Hampshire Resorts." Politicians moved it into Dorset in 1974 at the very last minute. It remains properly in Hampshire as the pre-1974 County Boundaries were supposed to take precedence. The proper boundary is County Gates, between Bournemouth and Poole. The better name for County Council is "Local Authority Area."

I could be wrong, but wasn't the trolleybus turntable in Christchurch, not Bournemouth ...

I believe so, but there could have been another one. And when the bus had been turned the conductor had to re-attach the pickup to the wires with the (shown) long wooden pole. The thing is - when the pole got rain on it, it conducted electricity and the conductor got a shock. Much swearing involved.....
