My grandfather used to take me out to the Poor Farm crossing just west of Tower A and the CB&Q bridge to watch the double-header 4000's head west, standing just clear. What a thrill for a boy. Visits to the roundhouse, the yard office, the dispatcher office with the tall crew boards, everything is still etched so clearly into this fading mind. Thank you, John Gray.

WELL DONE! I grew up in Cheyenne as part of a UPRR family (Nebraska Division), but worked on an engineering (surveying) party in 1965-1967. In that time, we restaked all the mainline from Cheyenne to Evanston, so I got to know the road well. Obviously, a lot of compromises had to be made for space reasons - it would take a building miles long to avoid that, but the feeling of the wide open spaces was successfully achieved. I think the curves may even be super-elevated, common in the era for the StreamLiners. This model railroad is a success!

I have to say the video quality really sells the immersion. Looks like a cassette video taken in the late 60s of a real railroad.

Great model. Even the snow fences are accurately modeled and placed. I swear that I have been to several of the scenes portrayed.

Grew up in Cheyenne during the early and mid 70's. What a massive yard at the time. I was shocked when I returned a few years ago to see it mostly gone. Sherman Hill is still a cool place though.

Terrific job. I really like the cursor showing where on the layout the trains were. I thought the realism of the layout was terrific.

I've been to Wyoming many times. I used to live in Denver and my girlfriend's family was from Rawlins. It looks just like this only with better lighting. Those backdrops are the bomb.

True artistry, I do believe that Mr Gray’s layout has more trees than exist near Cheyenne all the way to the Utah Border. He has improved on nature.

Near Harriman and the Colorado border there's a bunch of trees like that

I sure liked the well done realistic western look of your layout. I am not a model railroader (other than Bachman EZ Track around the Christmas tree) , but I have ridden all the AMTRAK western routes west of St. Lous and VIA Rail between Vancouver and Jasper all in the 2000S. It was a great way to see the West. I like the way you used a Union PacfIic passenger train to see the scnery. AMTRAK did not go through Wyoming, but I did see some similarity with eastern Montana. Great video!

7 thumbs down represent small jealous worms. I'm jealous as well, but no way I could in clear conscience give it a thumbs down. Great layout and video. Thanks for sharing. The one I am building is less than 25% in space, but same era in Rock Island Livery.

I seen this layout in Model Railroader back in Feb 1998. I since built my own layout here in Delaware. John, your layout has inspired me with many ideas. I would love to see your layout in person one day, thank you,
      Keith
