I've been looking for a version that had some guts, and this is the best so far. Strong lead vocals with warmth and depth, and a simple arrangement that builds on her power. Everything else so far has been weedy and saccharine by comparison.
Cause I'm a Scotsman. And no matter who sings this or however, I break down in tears. It's a very beautiful thing indeed. Thinking of lost ones up yonder on the great wheel waiting for us. The clear and silver fountain, with the flowers of the mountain.
I'm 76 yrs old. Heard this played by scores of different performers/groups over the years at Highland Games etc. One of my favorite tunes that tears me up every time. This is hands down, flat out, the most beautiful arrangement I have ever heard!! Kudos!! This will be my go to version from now on. Freaking beautiful!! Subscribed.
@@nicopaulo5440 North Carolina, USA. Was actually listening to this when I noticed your post. I can't imagine how many times I've played this since discovering it. My family came to the US from Scotland via Canada.
I'm convulsed in tears. This is the most evocative, beautiful version I have heard of this song so beloved of my dear friend Genie Williams who left us several years ago. We used to just call it "Genie's Song". Thanks so much!
My grandma, born in Glasgow, recently passed away. I’ve been able to stay strong and stoic for my family, but this broke me and I needed that. Thank you.
Beautiful expression of this song.. The ladies voice is particularly perfect for this song.. Really nice guitar lines too.. Thankyou from Rolland at Castle Hassall
I'd love to have heard this live fae the Corries. Unfortunately too young. Absolutely lovely rendition, you should come to the homeland and record a version here, all around the bloomin heather.
Agreed with the other comment. One of my favorite old Scots songs, found this searching for more versions of it. This one is utterly heart moving. More, please 💝 do a version of Barbara Allen 💝
The first time I heard this song was at your performance last summer at Writers at Woody Point. It quickly became one of my favourites. I often tell people how special of a moment your performance was that night, as your emotions were so raw. I said it after the show, but again, thank you for this.
What are the correct words? This Is the braes of balquiddar; the original song ( maybe not the tune); wrote at least a couple of hundred years ago, then Francis McPeake took it to Ulster, and made it will ye go lassie go….

Maybe it's just me but the male harmonizing around 1:50 on reminds me of the Corries,
