Working in a volunteer modding project myself, I just know the insurmountable effort it must have taken from everyone on the team to get this demo ready and stable enough for public play. I'm starting to hope GTA 6 is a trash woke pile of garbage and everyone stops talking about it shortly after it's release. GTA has done NOTHING new really since GTA 3. They added the tiniest little additions each game. Their BIGGEST jump was in GTA 4 with Euphoria, but then they just toned it down and made it less realistic in GTA 5. Valve deserves the praise Rockstar gets. Valve is the TRUE innovators of the gaming industry, Rockstar became another cash grabbing DEI hire case like all the rest of the old school companies that NOW SUCK. Feeeeeck GTA!!

Me and my friends were so obsessed with the demo and re played over and over, then, the full game came out and we finished so many times i lost count, after that I got the orange box that included all the other versions Half-Life: Opposing Force, Blue Shift and Deadmatch, all this was way before the Steam store existed. Sadly i lost all my physical copies. Now I have all the digital collection on my account including HL2 and episodes, including lost coast. Been following Project Borealis since day 1. Congratulations team, I cant wait to try this and for the full game!!
The demo is immaculate. The way you guys got it so close to feeling like Source is astounding. The keybinds (loved that pressing both G and Z is implemented), main menu, settings UI, everything. One nitpick/suggestion is for more of a reaction when shooting zombies with the shotgun. Maybe more gun muzzle flash and more blood particles, can’t put my finger on what would make it punchier. I wish I had more, I got a taste of it and now I’m dying
I just want to say, congrats to the Devs on getting this far. I know it might not seem like much, but with how long we've waited for some kind of 3rd installment, official or fanmade, and having seen many people attempt to create an EP3 game but either fall short or have to cancel for one reason or another before the public can even get a taste of a playable demo in any way, the very fact that PB has gotten this far is impressive on it's own. So congrats on sticking with it this far and giving the public a taste of what your vision of a Half-Life 3/Episode 3 would be. Major props and I hope the team will continue this project for however long it takes. And the demo from what I've seen looks good too, visually stunning with some pretty good physics. Only time will tell how well the gameplay and, important to me, game-feel will be down the road. But from the demo the team is off to a good start. Hopefully things will fall into place over the next few years. Till then we will be patient and digilent as the team continues development on this game. TY again, and hopefully: "I'll see you, up ahead..."
This was incredible to see. I had thought Borealis to be a defunct effort but silence doesn't always mean absence, you guys are simply amazing for still having been truckin along all this time, super mega massive props.
It looks great! One thing that stands out is the first person pistol positioning and animation, it looks off. I'd love to see that get another pass to make it look more natural.

The development looks complicated and responsible. It is clear that the team has put a lot of effort into it. I really hope that everything will work out for you and the world will be filled with a great game!
Prologue is like 5 mins long. has 4 weapons (gravity gun, pistol, shotgun, crowbar) and 2 enemy types ( headcrabs and regular zombies) Some recreation of the classic props, sawblades paint bucket etc, and some new environmenal art. But its soo short and condensed, don't expect an actual demo, its more like teaser than anything else
Was such a good blast from the past to play some classic inspired Half-Life 2 gameplay and graphics! The references to the Borealis's reality warping effects was a cool visual treat! Looking forward to when this game is truly complete!
I finished the demo and the only problem with this demo is the optimization is very bad. I hope you will fix the optimization with a patch in the demo in the coming days.
I was able to run it very well after switching to DLSS as the upscaler, and then setting the render scale to about 70 percent. Still looks immaculate too.

I’m actually so excited now. After playing it for the first time in 2017 it quickly became my favourite game series. I’ve always been hoping ever since that for another one and we’re finally getting it!
My only actual complaint is the viewmodels feeling kind of cramped and maybe the enemy animations feeling a bit outdated, otherwise this looks phenomenal! Scenes like 2:35 looks crazy
Seeing Marc's vision for the end of the series come to life like this is just surreal, we'll be getting the closest thing to the HL3 we were meant to get !

i played the prologue but hopefully the optimization will improve because out of all the games i can run on high graphics, on this one i must put everything on low and use 50% rendering quality to make the most of it to get enough frames and quality
Can you be explicit about your experience with frame rates? Because it's not uncommon these days to hear people saying their machine is "struggling" and that a game is "not optimized" when they are getting a stable 90+ fps. In my opinion, it's to the point where any commentary on performance and optimisation without explicit data cannot be considered legitimate. So many reviews that I see, if the player didn't have an FPS counter they would never know that the game isn't running at 400fps. Yet, because they see a 96 instead of 378 during an intense moment in the corner of their screen it "ruins" their experience even though the actual difference in frame rate is imperceptible to the human eye. Are you dropping below 60? Below 30? On different graphics settings?
@@sockpastarock7082 kinda side nitpick but the difference isn’t necessarily “imperceptible”, people have different levels of sensitivity, personally I can clearly differentiate anything up to 120ish without thinking about it (and higher if I’m really trying to notice it), but I know it’s different for other people Idk it just annoys me when people just refuse to believe that it isn’t the same for everyone and assume if they can’t see/feel (feel via input lag) the difference no-one can
@@Arakus99 it's not perceptible to over 95% of humans. It's definitely not enough to spend several minutes of a review criticising "performance issues" when it is, at most, a minor nitpick. This is something I keep seeing in reviews and it's really annoying to hear the reviewer talk about something so irrelevant and trash an otherwise great game. I don't think it is valid to say that a game runs "poorly" if it never goes below 60fps, in my opinion but most reviewers will trash a game if they ever see 90fps
@@sockpastarock7082 i agree. i have a 5 5600x and a 1080 super, i tried playing around with the settings for best experience while keeping the quality coherent. usual settings i would put on a half life game would be everything set to high, but this one uses unreal engine so i had to lower it, but no matter how low i went, it didn't matter until i tweaked the rendering quality setting. i can have everything on max but doesnt lag until that setting is below 30%. the best results i can get is like 24 fps with 50% rendering quality and everything set to low. i can run many games with high graphics like gta 5, minecraft, team fortress 2 but i can understand this is still a work in progress so hopefully the graphics will be optimized later on

I think I speak for everyone when I say please don’t take another 6 years to post an update. Frankly speaking we are all intrigued by the development process of this game and would love to see more. Even if it means seeing multiple updates to a single mechanic. As a game dev college graduate I love to see the nitty gritty of the development process.

You can see footage in the new documentary: it was going to be used for puzzles to build ledges, bridges, etc. Also had combat utility. Seems like a big deal. Hows this going to affect borealis?
You are essentially playing an alpha slice of the game without full optimization. Typically full optimization happens throughout dev and particularly at the end of the polish cycle.
@@89supraok I understand that it's in alpha, but I find it hard to believe that it's THAT poorly optimized. It's made in Unreal engine which is notorious for its frame time stutter problems but this is on a whole 'nother level. Regardless, I'm absolutely stoked to play this.
If need be, i personally wouldn't mind the classic "LOADING" intermissions between maps; assuming that could help you make the game more performant and simplify level design. Also 3:05 is the best fucking concept art i've ever seen
Hello, Project Borealis team. I just finished playing the demo. I'm really glad that this game didn't fall apart. Most of all, the prologue was really, really exciting and I'm totally looking forward to seeing what you guys can do in the future. It was worth the wait.
The demo is great! Definitely got the same creepy vibes that Ravenholm gave me in the original game (I could play a whole game just in that town). One thing the developers should note is I would get 1-2 second pauses where everything continued rendering, npcs were happy to take advantage, but my input would not be processed at all. Not sure if this is a common occurrence. Contact me if you want specifics of my setup. Great demo! Thanks for all the hard work going into this.
Gravity gun, 9mm and shotgun feel good. Graphics and design is beautiful. Jumping on to things is really buggy and does not feel good. Headcrab "standing up" after attacking looks really floaty and strange. It would be cool if explosions looked and sounded better. Parallel dimensions, atmosphere and music is amazing.
Yessss!!!, the huge ballsac with 4 legs is potentially going to make an a appearance! The Gonarch has been always been my favorite enemy, Black Mesa did justice, a 3 stage epic fight, hopefully Project B will do it just as well. Hello! I played Project Borealis Prologue. It has level design stuck problem in green room with vegetation. Doors has planks and its looks like to break here with crowbar, but not breakable it. No one teaches player to press "E". Visually, door and door frame do not look attractive. Solution: - Follow the rule - "if something looks breakable, make it breakable"; - Add tutorial to press "E"; - Paint door frame or door with red or yellow or some else contrasted color with green vegetation and brown wood environment; - Add more walkthrough ways: one door breakable, second door to open with push "E". I am also apply to Level Designer position on Project Borealis website.
The game looks stunning! Really excited to play the full version! Keep up the good work and ignore the trolls who give negative review just because it's unreal engine or whatever.
It's pretty insane that there might end up being multiple different games of Episode 3 and the ending to the Half-Life main series, almost fitting as if there's alternative universes in itself.

Try enabling FSR3 with the slider pulled all the way to the left & Frame interpolation. That made a night & day difference for me

Hello, Project Borealis team. I just finished playing the demo.
I'm really glad that this game didn't fall apart. Most of all, the prologue was really, really exciting and I'm totally looking forward to seeing what you guys can do in the future.
It was worth the wait.

The demo is great! Definitely got the same creepy vibes that Ravenholm gave me in the original game (I could play a whole game just in that town). One thing the developers should note is I would get 1-2 second pauses where everything continued rendering, npcs were happy to take advantage, but my input would not be processed at all. Not sure if this is a common occurrence. Contact me if you want specifics of my setup.

I love the ropes and the snow, the project looks really exciting!
Gravity gun, 9mm and shotgun feel good. Graphics and design is beautiful. Jumping on to things is really buggy and does not feel good. Headcrab "standing up" after attacking looks really floaty and strange. It would be cool if explosions looked and sounded better. Parallel dimensions, atmosphere and music is amazing.

Yessss!!!, the huge ballsac with 4 legs is potentially going to make an a appearance! The Gonarch has been always been my favorite enemy, Black Mesa did justice, a 3 stage epic fight, hopefully Project B will do it just as well. Also, glad to hear from you guys, and can't wait for the next update in 4 years!
Hello! I played Project Borealis Prologue. It has level design stuck problem in green room with vegetation. Doors has planks and its looks like to break here with crowbar, but not breakable it. No one teaches player to press "E". Visually, door and door frame do not look attractive.
Solution:
- Follow the rule - "if something looks breakable, make it breakable";
- Add tutorial to press "E";
- Paint door frame or door with red or yellow or some else contrasted color with green vegetation and brown wood environment;
- Add more walkthrough ways: one door breakable, second door to open with push "E".
I am also apply to Level Designer position on Project Borealis website.
Yeah honestly that was the only major problem I had with the demo, was the gameplay. It felt rough, and that's an understatement.

A snowmobile from Zaporozhets is cool! I drove such a car and even without tracks ZAZ successfully passes difficult terrain :)

It's pretty insane that there might end up being multiple different games of Episode 3 and the ending to the Half-Life main series, almost fitting as if there's alternative universes in itself.
