    Glad you're bringing more attention to this game, was a genuinely good game especially in terms of character setups. It was a shame they released it around the time of Mass Effect 3 even if they had little crossover items in each game.

      Skyrim also helped to bury Kingdoms of Amalur in obscurity as it was released at the end of 2011 and was dominating the Western RPG scene at the time.

      For me it was Skyrim that made me know nothing of this game, cuz I was so invested in that game that I really didn't care for any other game that was coming out or just did.
      But it was my Aunt that got me playing it years ago and I'm loving it.

      Stumbled across this game whilst looking for a decent action RPG on the 360. Was hooked from the get go, loved it way more than Skyrim at the time. Am worried now I’ve played a LOT more Skyrim on the PS4 that this won’t hold up anymore for the remake. Still gonna give it a shot.

    • @isaaclong6085
      @isaaclong6085 4 года назад +4

      What..? The writing was by far the weakest part of the game. I mean, it was written for an MMO rpg, and it really shows in its lack of interesting characters and basic kill/fetch quests

    • @isaaclong6085

      @@isaaclong6085 the action, the enemies, the atmosphere and settings (in the 1st half at least) were fantastic despite the lack of decent story. I didn’t get on with Skyrim on the 360 because of the load times, but funnily enough the load times on this remastered game on the PS4 are way worse than Skyrim. Still great fun tho.

      Facts, while he was kind to it i feel like he was quite inaccurate in many areas, such as the lore, story and questing. He way underplayed the rpg'ness of this game which leads me to believe he never really finished or devoted much time to it, i could be wrong though, but he definitely misrepresented that stuff.

    I know this video is old but it helped me find this game I loved as a kid. It was a gift from my younger uncles, to me out of the clearance isle at GameStop when I was younger between 5-7. The thought behind the gift was as great as the memories I had made playing. I had gave away the game some years ago as I have been struggling with a short term memory loss so I’ve only recently began regaining some of those memories through a conversation about the 350 despite my young age. I have been restlessly looking through RUclips and Reddit for Skyrim-esk games as that was the only way I could describe it and I found this video reconnecting me to this quirky little game. Thank you so much wether you do or don’t see this

  • @Kaldor_Draigo

    I played like 80 hours of the game straight, on one character when i got it. I spent so much time doing every single side quest and exploring every map that by the time I finished one play through, i could no longer play through for months. But it’s so good. It gets repetitive but the combat is crunchy, satisfying and fun. You’re always on the look for more crystals or materials to craft the most awesome gear. It’s everything you could want in an open world game from 2010s and i dare say it’s combat and lore holds up even today.

  • @klain6408

    One of my favorite games of all-time. The fiction was fantastic, the character systems were great, and it was wrapped in such a tight, fun package. Very underrated, feel like a lot of people overlooked it because it didn't have the same kind of dynamic exploration as TES, but to me it felt like it had its own identity with enough depth and personality to keep me going. Thanks for covering it, hope there's a sequel in the future. I kind of feel like Amalur and Outer Worlds share a similar spot in the genre, love when an RPG offers multiple, valid options to build your character while keeping the experience focused on a world with its own idiosyncrasies - even if Amalur is a bigger game with more redundant content.

    I loved this game when it came out and I'm still disappointed it didn't get a sequel. I really liked the art style and there were so many weapons and abilities that were awesome to use like the chakrams, faeblades, hammers, and staves, or all the elemental powers. Before THQ bought it I thought of it as just another great IP EA will never do anything with again outside of maybe mobile games like Ultima, Command And Conquer, Dead Space, Jade Empire, and Mirror's Edge before that got a sequel that will also be forgotten. I'm not going to really get all that exited for it's future until it's clear what's going on and who's doing what but I am glad it at least appears to be in the hands of people that want to do something with it.

    • @marcosdheleno
      @marcosdheleno 4 года назад +2

      there's no way they would be able to pull it off, mmos arent just games, they are worlds, that need constant additions, i dont think you remember 2012 but it was the start of the mmo crash, too many games were lost because the developers thought "we will be the next wow" and failed so massively its not even funny.
      the game was gem, but it failed because, while its gameplay was great, its story was borderline trash, in an era when people decided story was the only thing that mattered in a game.

      Really? Did you do the tons of side quests in each region? What about the multiple factions with their own quest-lines? Many games claim decisions have an impact but this game actually lets you see the impact and modifies your reward/options after such decisions. Tons of quests have a branch off where you have to decide between one group/person or another. Heck, even the very end, the very last main quest dialogue has such a option.

    This is a fantastic game. I really wish it had succeeded at kick off. I think it had a truly unique take on the fantasy world. The writing is very good, as long as you actually pay attention to it. If you focus on maxing character damage and not as a Role Play you will miss out on the best part of the game. The side Quests, especially the faction quests add so much depth. Of course all the Lore does. It is easy enough to change your build and go from stealth assassin, to tank warrior, to pure mage, or any hybrid there-in. But I played this through on two separate characters for the RP experience

    Started a new playthrough yesterday with Reshades GI Raytracing & "YSA's Heartcore" Mod for better balance in difficulty. It's pretty fun to play this game again. The first area Dalentarth is definetley one of my favorite RPG locations with it's amazing art style and tons of small stories about the worlds (folk)lore. They are fairly good implemented into quests and combat therefore doesn't feel as repetitive as in other games of this lenght. It's somehow easier to care about the side content of lighthearted games than in gritty, more realistic ones like Skyrim or Witcher. Salvatore's writing gave it a book like quality that gets me invested just in running through hills & forests with Boggarts chasing faeries over tiny creeks.
    Looking forward to further devolpments in this franchise!

    This was the game I was yearning when I cancelled my warcraft subscription all those years ago. The world was amazing, the art and design was colourful and it had alot of soul. With the game not being entirely open world, they did an amazing job at making the world feel emersive and breath taking round every corner, a brilliant and well designed RPG and one of the best I've played. In terms of games I've enjoyed the most, this is up there for sure!

    One of my favorite games of all time. I love playing as a finesse build with daggers + longbow.
    Another cool point is the lore seems to be heavily inspired by Celtic and Norse mythology. More than a few times I’ve searched for something from this game only to find a Celtic or Norse myth with a similar name.

    Been there, done that! I played this game back in 2013-2014 (can't remember exactly) and I had so much fun back then, it was amazing! The combat makes you feel like a total badass and the only thing that made me sad is when the story finished I couldn't be bothered to invest more time in irrelevant side quest and repetitive action. All in all this is awesome RPG game and for me it was a successful product! Cheers!

    Very good video! I loved this game when it came out. Spent a big chunk of time with it and loved almost every minute of it. Interestingly enough, it released very close to Dragon’s Dogma, another RPG that I like just as much as Kingdoms of Amalur, and another RPG that heavily leans on its combat. Really hope we get proper sequels for both games, but this upcoming Re-Reckoning remaster is a promising sign.

    This game was originally conceived as an MMO. That's why the zones and quests are structured the way they are. They didn't have the cash to run a live service and couldn't anticipate competing with other established titles for an audience, so it was changed to single-player late in dev.

      Let's forget for a minute that this game was literal garbage, which is why no one positively reviewed it when it came out, but how is the game difficult? A child could beat this game, it doesn't require someone to git gud, it's just so poorly produced that it's basically unplayable. I bought the game a month after release for $5, and still hated it.

    I have this on my PS3 & play it often, first RPG I've enjoyed since Final Fantasy Tactics back in the PS1 days. Combat is good, stealth kills are a nice touch- as is being able to pickpocket NPCs while in stealth mode- battles are fun no matter the number or difficulty of enemies, except when the game glitches.
    Interesting glitch I've noticed is if you choose to keep the original sword you pick up at the very beginning- in what is essentially the tutorial- random glitches, especially during combat, come up & can even become a continuous problem if you save after getting such a glitch. It appears the glitch happens about the time you get several hours into the game, usually around the time my character reaches level 10, so it's not hard to see why most people don't run into this glitch because they've long since gotten rid of their original sword, which seems to be the only item capable of causing this glitch. Check it out if you're curious, but save before your character reaches level 10 or gets in heavy combat with six or more enemies. Glitches I've run into include slower playing speed, one item of equipment neither breaking nor being repairable, inability to complete reckoning mode once activated & one random ability no longer activating at all. Again, this only comes up if I keep the original sword from the tutorial, otherwise no problem. I love the combat, the DLCs & even most of the names for the sidequests are an amusing read. One of the reasons I bought a PS3 & I don't regret it.

    I really wanted to love this game. The combat was fantastic so it was a joy to play, but there was so much lore to the game that it often felt overpowering, I had absolutely no idea what the hell was going on half the time. The game hits you with so much information at once that you get overwhelmed. It needed to ease you into its world, but it took the complete opposite approach, which is why so many people were turned off by it

Unfortunately back in the day the save file corrupted on the 360 and I was so sad. Definitely an underrated game. This would be a great "remaster" or the story line continued.

    Played it in when it came out, the big sale points at the time were R.A. Salvatore wrote the world, Todd McFarland designed the world and the music was composed by the final fantasy team. It looked like god of war combat with fable artwork! I was blown away... for about 6 hours. Each region, visually great, but the EXACT SAME QUESTS. I need mushrooms x, clear out cellar Y, defend the gate Z. NPC do exist, but they are quest fountains, not people living in the moment. When I played, I really understood they thought they were working on an MMORPG, and set up all the grindy components, then I guess they couldn't finish it well enough to compete with WOW, and sold a solo player game when they ran out of money. I think if they made good NPC's like mass effect, and change the strategy of quests for regions would have vastly improved the game to top tier.

    One reason why I feel there should be a sequel, is that there were a few loose ends that needed tying up. Like the hinted at consequences of Tirnoch's death destroying fate itself. The supposed End of the Fae and end of Magic that was made a big deal of throughout the game. In the Side quest Natural Order there's a character named Balthasar who mentions characters and factions that aren't anywhere else in the game and if you pass a persuasion check, you can avoid a fight with him as he doesn't want to fight said characters he mentioned if they're working together, but he promises to return, and is never seen in the game again. But the Biggest lose end, would probably in the House of Sorrows Questline, where with a successful persuasion check, Bisarene says that something big is coming and the Tuatha are the only way anyone is going to survive it.
