I came across this lecture purely by accident. I found it enlightening and thought provoking. Thank you for making this available!

This lecture on "The Hollow Men" is an extraordinary offering by a master teacher. I don't remember many college or grad school lectures being as astute, accessible or informative as this, and i can't recall any being as selfless or free of affect; it's not about showmanship, but about communication. This half-hour lecture reminds me of what I loved about being a literature major--it makes me eager to read more, and to hear more of what Craig Andrews has to offer. Two minor comments: I understand entropy to mean not so much death, stillness, loss of life, as randomness, loss of order; chaos; the opposite of the rose-like vision of Dante's "Paradiso"; the opposite of Christian orthodoxy and the operation of a divine plan. Regarding the shadow motif in section 5 of "Hollow Men" I think of Plato's allegory of the cave from "The Republic." What's more hollow than an existence informed only by the shadow of the real, never able to see, understand or embrace that which IS?

Studied Eliot in my undergrad work on an English degree. ""The Hollow Men" has come to mind with the current political situation we are in. Thanks for the insights. Great lecture!

Thank you very much Mr. Andrews for this lecture! It allwed me to explore a completely different side to the poem that I had not found elsewhere, such as the potential scientific allusions Eliot was making in this masterpiece. Hats off for calling ''them'' out as modern day hollow men. Looking forward to future videos and watching your old ones too!

Where is the life we have lost in living ?
Where is the wisdom lost in knowledge ?
Where is the knowledge we have lost in information ?
