This was the famous race where James Hunt didn’t show up for commentary because he was still at his Belgium hotel after a late night on the Saturday due to a “belly ache”.
Martin Brundle retired on lap 12 in his Brabham with brake failure and joined Murray in the box to be interviewed and ultimately co-commentate for ten laps from lap 20-30. The beginning of a stellar broadcasting career.

Prost was probably the smallest and lightest grand prix driver. Jean Barnard said he never saw a driver set up for understeer to take corners and glide through tracks with as little pressure on car and tyres as prost was able to do. Hence why over a season he generally out pointed everyone including senna. The years he didn't win the championship was usually down to car unreliability.

Prost+Senna+Mansell...3 great drivers, each of them in a different way

I remember watching this live on BBC. In those days you had to wait for the race to unfold. Valiant effort by Mansell who frankly outdrove his machinery on the day, reeling in Prost over the 2nd half of the race but was always going to be very difficult to pass so long as Prost didn’t make a mistake and deviate from the drying racing line.

There you see how good was Prost actually and this came from a Mansell fan. He was awesome even when defending on rain.

Prost was not good in the rain.

@@Mejimonoconhambre Says who? He was obviously very capable on it, with his precision, and being a smooth operator, he arguably had the potential to be even the best in wet conditions.
But the accident with Pironi left a mental scar on him, decided to not take unnecessary risks and just take the car to the finish line.

You don't often see falcons and ducks in similar ratio. Interesting. I believe the mottle-crested Houz was first identified in the 1870's; recently categorized ()x.

Mansell, o implacável na perseguição aos adversários.

Os duelos cm o Senna era incríveis por conta do Senna ser muito feroz pra defender seu espaço, e o Mansell ser um leão na perseguição, era sensacional aquelas disputas

Prost was better than Mansell, except in the wet where Mansell was better.

I agree that Mansell was better in the wet than Prost, I also think that Mansell was better in qualifying, but overall Prost was better than Mansell.

Prost was better overall, but Mansell was way faster and more entertaining to see. Prost was a boring driver.

@@FiasaPower Prost was both much better overall and in fact faster than Mansell.

@@livingbeing1113, I disagree. Prost wasn't that fast. In fact both Mansell and Senna were faster than him, but Prost was the most regular and constant and, above all, he knew how to conserve his equipment, which was a very valuable virtue in those times when the cars were not reliable at all. Of course, he was way more intelligent than Mansell too. Prost knew how win championships, not only races and pole positions. Peace.
