Thanks for the clip. Grew up in #2 and Currie Street…left in 1987, this was shot in ‘88…so this is really how I remember it…Thanks…it brought back a lot of great and sad memories.
Crazy to think how vibrant and busy a community it was. I’m imagining the life my grandfather would’ve lived in Glace Bay before the internet and everything. A neat peek into history - thanks for uploading this
My husband was from #11, his sister still lives in the old company house that's been in the family since it was built. Thanks for the memories! My first trip to Glace Bay was in 1976. My husband passed away on Sept 2nd. I will be bringing him home to rest in 2019. Thanks David for this video. I'm going to share it with family here in Windsor, On.
1:52 - The Chevrolet-Oldsmobile dealership (Preferred Motors, then Bay Chev-Olds and Highlands Chev-Olds) no longer exists in Glace Bay...if anyone in Glace Bay wanted to get a new car, they will have to go to Sydney to do that!
Commercial Street in Glace Bay, NS has been mostly one-way since the mid-1980s. BTW, this video was shot a month before Heather O'Rourke (Carol Anne Freleng in the 'Poltergeist' trilogy) died suddenly from cardiac arrest and intestinal stenosis...she was only 12 years old!
There's not much food in Glace Bay but they call it Foodtown, yeah I remember when I was a younger man we had nothing, my mom was on welfare with 4 kids, and it sucked.
Now they'd fine for driving/filming that right?if it was you...lol ,They were the good ole days! Beautiful town, despite the problems "that are just new problems now" some of my life's best memories are there. I feel very fortunate to have been raised in this town, most people like myself only appreciate it after they leave,it's been 32 years now and before the cold wind blows I hope to enjoy it one more time, starting this spring I hope. Thanks ,Great post!
"Son take a good look around...this is your home town" Spent the best days of my life in the Bay. The drunks and druggies were always there, now its just a new generation thats all. Peace.
