And also said if the first day of spring training i don't resign with they jays, I'm going to the FA. He doesn't want to hear anything about contract in the season.
Ross Atkins got under the lux tax. No one thought he would. With the way they managed the deadline, i'd argue that they and Vlad are the only ones who did their jobs this year. So now we save 500k for a possible Sasaki run if we sign a FA with a QO. I think the remaining FAs may have to wait for Sasaki, since many if them are tied to the money used to aquire him. Soto, Fried, Snell, those guys were worth the penalty. The rest aren't. Perhaps why Burnes hasnt signed. SF prob telling him 'Sasaki first' I know waiting for Sasaki sound meaningless, but a good FO will always try to get the best available peice This garbage FO narrative is weak. We're 115 runs short Assuming Bo can get back to 95 runs (from 29) and Gimenez can get about 75-80 (career high, but not by much), that can recover 40-50 runs lost from the middle infield (134 total in 2024) Add 40-50hrs (between 2 guys) and we'll easily recover the runs/wins needed to get back where we need to be. Of course, this is if the pitching can also get back on track..
I have always said. Vlad has no motivation to sign an extension. He's not going to take a discount on an extension. When he knows. All he has to do is perform the way he knows he can, for 1 season. And it will be a bidding war in free agency. But as long as the Jays are willing to match what anyone else offers. I believe he will sign with the Jays.
If the jays and vlad are this far apart still, I see an Aaron Judge situation playing out and that doesn’t scare me too much. If there is honest mutual interest and the only thing they can’t agree on is $, letting the market dictate what he’s worth isn’t crazy. If the jays tell vlad “hey, whatever the market dictates for you we will match it and add $X million for you” then that’s honestly a good strategy…..if there’s mutual interest that may be the way to go. It’s risky for both parties though…..the 1B market is not developing like Vladdy hopes and Alonso is probably waiting to see if vlad can set his value.

A few from 35 years ago. In 2023, they had the best defense and pitching, but our superstar hit into 27DPs and had an OPS+ of 116. Literally, The only thing this team has been missing is the Vladdy we've been expecting in meaningful moments. Now, He's trying to get paid for that 2 months outburst before he has to play another game and risk exposing his norm. They've never had an opportunity to build around anyone but Vlad and I challenge anyone to remind me of a time he helped us win anything.
If he walks it will be the dark ages here. Late 90’s where no one came to games. I truly believe this will get done but this front office needs to stop fucking around. Get it done.
