Opera Discovery Concert Part 2/2: Are Baritones Always the Bad Guys?

Join us for this two-part series presented by award-winning opera professional and educator Natalie Mann, who holds a Doctor of Music from Indiana University.
Poor baritones… an often under-appreciated voice type who are found in almost every opera. But their characters are crucial and often essential drivers to many operatic plots. We will delve into how composers use the baritone and bass/baritone voices as the antagonists to propel the story forward. Mann will discuss how listeners can go beyond the music and libretto to uncover deeper meaning in operas. In addition to the lecture, Doug Nagel, accomplished bass-baritone and founding director of Coachella Valley Classical Voices, will also be performing selected arias live with pianist Bruce Mangum.
