The dad is upset because he knows he has to take his son back to an unhealthy situation. He has no choice because he is not the custodial parent. I imagine that it would be a horrible spot to be in. 😢
@Blue Skeptic true, but it is getting a little better. I don't understand why a mother even bothers to get custody if they don't plan to put the child before anything else. If your sex life is more important than your kid, let them go with their dad. It's power play for some women.

It is a shitty situation. And if the state doesnt give them to the mother it goes to the almost as bad or worse grandparents on the mothers side so its still unhealthy. (Situation im in and i cant even visit my kids cuz of them and im WITH the mother still)
Oh my god I know so many people in that situation. In a way the songs about how screwed up it is that women win these custodial battles just bc women.

This was written by the lead singer about trying and wanting to be a good dad. I'm pretty sure they're this is two families in the arguing scenes the singer is the sun and then in the other seems the singer is the dad. The boy playing the son is actually the lead singers son. I believe that this actually lead to the singer and his estranged mother working out some issues

My dad was extremely against raising voices if my mum and him fought, unfortunately he had a deep, deep voice that carried and we shared a wall. That's my earliest memory other than Mom exploiting us and telling us how horrific he was (my mom is so much that we'd have to write a thesis on her).
She wouldnt miss a chance to slander him and tell us how horrible he was. Needless to say, after an enforced while of staying with her (she'd make dinner, for example, loaf her own plate, then throw the rest of the food in the bin whilst making eye contact with us and laughing).
In the meantime, Dad got a place next to our school, took cooking lessons for months, and learned about us 1-1 even while owning businesses and helping start up businesses. No charge.
Guess which parent we're closest to.
I've come out of 3 comas and the last 2 i couldn't speak except for "Dad?" "Pops?"

I remember when this song was popular, I was between 7th and 9th grade. I love this song, but it hurts be alot too. I heard and saw the video before my mom and step dad. My mom fell in love with it and would sing it to him. She always chose him over her four kids. When I pointed it out that it was about his son she said I know. I told her the fucked up part was she never felt that way about any of her kids and she just sat there. Children are extremely perceptive. I knew my life was bad and wanted to die by the time I was 5.
Hits home! Couldn't watch this for years after my divorce. Got my boys now.

I saw Puddle of Mudd live just a couple of years ago and they were great. Wes Scanlon performed very well despite his addiction demons.

The little boy in the video is his son, Joradn. He wrote the song about wanting to be a better father, but being on tour ("there's oceans in between us but that's not very far") made that difficult.
The parents are split and the mother is with the kids stepdad. Mother and stepdad are in a rough environment around the kid. The kids dad, who is the singer, wants to be there more for the son, and away from the rough situation. That's what the song is about.

Why would we kill you in the comments? You got there. That's what counts. With so many multiple parent families this is an all too commonplace occurrence. Not just this but also with parents trash talking the other parent to the child. Like you said, children do not need to be exposed to anything like this. They are sponges. They absorb and replicate what they see and hear, thus perpetuating the hate. Nice reaction.

Many single fathers are in the situation where because the mothers have primary custody, and are often spiteful twards the fathers and dont really put the kids first like they should. I made it clear with my situation, that if we ever split, he had better be their for every birthday, Christmas, and at least half the games/events. I refuse to hear my baby cry for her dad and him not answer. Im not going to be like my ex sis in law
