Very informative like always . After watching your videos, i am beginning to consider my options to return my Malaysia for retirement . Recently we crossed over to JB from Singapore for a day of cafe hopping, at a fraction of the price in Singapore with food quality and ambience that were on par if not better. It was such a good expe. Fortunately I've not given up my citizenship! Keep showing us what Malaysia has to offer! 🎉
Taxes in Malaysia are worsening. The tax regime recently changed. And inheritance tax is under consideration and may include spouse. Thailand just switched from territorial tax to worldwide tax effective 1 January and Malaysia is also reportedly "looking to broaden the tax base". So singapore could be best for anyone with significant investments, especially offshore.
@@MiaMissingMeow It's complicated. Consult a well qualfied, licensed tax specialist. Not the Big 4 for personal tax. Just FYI, HSBC opens bank accounts REMOTELY in My for HSBC Premier or Private Bank members in most other countries, once you have a Malaysia conditional approval letter. Then easy & convenient to transfer funds in/out of My remotely - for free as you said (with no FX fee if you don't convert currency).
....but don't overlook the new legal duty to report and file taxes for your foreign remittances to Malaysia, as required by law for everyone who's a tax resident of Malaysia, knowingly or not.
@@chinobonito30 HSBC Premier is no charge. But you must have have a certain level of assets in the bank to qualify. It's different in each country. But once you qualify as Premier in one country with HSBC, you are eligible to be Premier in every HSBC country for no charge and no additional deposits there.
@@chinobonito30 In Malaysia, you only need to keep at least RM200K in the bank at all times, which is lower than in many other countries. Like in Singapore, it's 200K dollars (I think). I have HSBC Premier in My which includes HSBC Premier in Singapore where I currently have only $100 haha. I have HSBC Premier in so many countries around the world that I can't remember. Just in case :) Sadly, HSBC closed in the US, Mauritius, and Canada so I don't have HSBC there anymore :( But still have in HK, UK, Australia, Armenia, Singapore, Bermuda, and many more!
I don't think you said, how long does the companion visa last, at most? It appeared to cost RM750 per person on your receipt (plus some extra fees). The MM2H is currently RM500 per person per year (or RM90 for those still grandfathered from before).
@@A-Nomad-Life So that's rm2470 every year for you and the boy? Must you renew the companion visa each year? (and hope it gets renewed?).... If so, then yes I expect you should undertake the inconvenient switch to MM2H. I go for the 15-20 year visa (not 5 year silver) - because then you have certainty of 20 years of residence in an uncertain & ever-changing program. Keep in mind you can withdraw half of the MM2H bank deposit for the DPC home you already bought😃... I know it's a lot left in the MM2H deposit with a crappy interest rate and volatile currency but I see it as the price we pay for the LT visa; some other countries cost even more! Especially for a similar "golden visa" elsewhere. This is the direction the world is going now. But only you know what's best for you... GOOD LUCK!
@@chinobonito30 RM40K agent fee plus RM500 per person per year (RM10K), plus must put RM5-million into a fixed deposit at very low interest for as long as you hold the visa, and must buy a new property over RM2-million in the 1st year of the visa.
So will you have to pay that rm2470 for each year that you and your son are in My? It'd be rm1500 for Digital Nomad visa which My govt says is fast & easy (for which you may qualify because you vlog with income)
@@A-Nomad-Life So Jessie, maybe consider getting the new Digital Nomad visa instead next year? According to youtubers and the Malaysia government, it is easy, fast, cheaper, and NOT "troublesome". It's good for 1 year and renewable yearly but to qualify you must keep making YT content for us😅😅 and make $2000+ monthly total from offshore. I think it's RM1500 per year for you and 1 dependent.
@@A-Nomad-Life Actually, mm2h agent fee is 40K ringgit malaysia, not 40K yuan. So 66K yuan. You must pay agent fee every 5 years to renew or extend mm2h visa. Per the new mm2h program.
