- Yet another just great scene from Scrubs in episode 14 of season 6. Cox trying to win on Laverne's view of the world but finally understands himself, right before Laverne gets seriously injured in a car accident. The music from Brett Dennen makes this another really touching Scrubs moment.
"I've been coming in here every day for 24 years watching children die and seeing good people suffer" *that's just heartbreaking*
I've been hospitalized a lot. Not everyone can handle it. Hated seeing how some nurses couldn't handle it and broke down. Especially when they connected with patients.
the only person who could so quickly and heartfeltly put Dr. Cox in his place
JD's brother Dan did it once too.
@@umcsullivan Honestly it's pretty nice that in Scrubs the side characters could sometimes end up doing things the main characters wouldn't be able to pull off.
sure except for Carla, Dan, Ben, Elliot, and JD.
@@Erowid13 lol yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa boooooooom!!!!!!!
Truth be told, if the writers really wanted to, pretty much any of the main characters could have put him in his place given the opportunity.
Film majors should have a class exclusively about Scrubs just to teach them how to choose the right music for right scenes.
Did you know the music supervisor for the show was Christa Miller (Jordan)? She did a damn fine job!
@@MrglsJon REALLY???? No, really? Wow!
Damn. Right. The only series finale I’ve ever cried to in my entire 27 years of existence
@@MrglsJon and Zach suggested loads of great songs as well
@@MrglsJon TIL holy shit
My top five heart-wrenching Scrubs moments in order:
1. Dr. Cox killing his 3 patients
2. JD comforting Dr. Cox in his house
3. Ben's funeral
4. Carla's last words to Laverne
5. Paralyzed patient saying thank you to Janitor
your number 5 is so under rated i love it but everyone is like meh
Ivan Paligutan You forgot Bob Kelso showing emotions when the patient dies because of his order, the janitor telling elliot his feelings, bob kelso leaving the clinic and jd and turk accompanying that old, lonely black guy until he dies... actually there are at least 20 more great scenes, it's just the best tv show ever!
6. JD and Turk spending time with George
Oh my god, up until 4 i read this like "good list" but when i read 5 i just started crying
Number 5 had me balling.
She executed that part so brilliantly. So much emotion
my thing is that kelso actually was there, not antagonizing Cox, not giving anyone the stink eye, but he was actually there for her and it showed that he respected Laverne just like anyone else in that group
They had a thing back in the day remember!
Lavern’s character was a good representation of a person of faith in tv
Yeah, she was judgemental, hypocritical and nosy
@@yevgeniyaleshchenko849 she was flawed she love others and was very protective of her staff
I agree she never forced her beliefs on anyone.
Turk is better. Laverne was at times a bit overbearing with it.
Yes, she also represented why people chose to have religion in their life. And why some people need it and some don't.
While there were sadder deaths on this show, this one hit the hardest because she was always the voice of reason and played momma bear to so many of the residents.
Idk about “always” the voice of reason. She did once bare-hand punch out the window to a car she had the keys to.
2:18 You can almost see Dr. Cox being transported back to feeling like a powerless child the way he walks towards the window. Top tier acting by John.
Always top tier acting by John.
Lavern's little speech is so beautiful and powerful. Aloma couldn't have acted it any better.
Season 6 was supposed to be the final season of Scrubs, which is why they killed off Laverne, to give the show's ending that extra oomf factor. When the show got renewed, they brought back Laverne's actress as a new nurse, whom only JD seemed to notice looked exactly like Laverne.
Fucking brilliant lmaoo
Lavernagain
Scrubs is the only show that can make me tear up at any moment with a random episode
Dude ikr bounce of making me laugh and then making me cry and making me get serious
I love this scene. Dr Cox throughout the entire series thought Laverne was being blinded through her religion/beliefs, ignorant of the realities of the pain and suffering in the world. However, similar to how Cox handles this pain through drinking, Laverne not only sees suffering more than most, she also needs coping with the sufferings of this world and her religion/beliefs help her get to the next day. You can see that Dr Cox truly respect her after this.
Man Laverne is like so many nurses... they have to watch people suffer on daily basis. There is no way I could do a job that I had to watch kids suffer. THANK GOD for those that can.
Every time i watch this it makes me cry, i know what's going to happen yet it's so damn powerful i cant help it, i thought Scrubs was supposed to be a comedy :'(
It's supposed to be what it is. A great show.
That's what made scrubs so damn great since you could be laughing one minute and crying the next minute.
Scrubs shows the genuine everyday life of people who work in a hospital and exaggerates some things here and there. I speak from personal experience.
Same.
atheist as well, yet her speech is so powerfull it brings me to tears each time.
Then never start a debatte over it. Just let believers believe.
Sincerly, another atheist
morten123456789 wish every atheists were like you guys
Keep your religion to yourself, don't think you're better, and we're respectful.
Dlow Hernandez
Dafuq are you talking about?
Sizzlik you are the real MVP 👊🏼
I've seen this show at least 10 times. This scene still makes me cry.
Yep, I'm an atheist like Dr Cox but that doesn't mean you don't respect other people's faith. In fact it's quite the contrary, I admire people that preach their faith peacefully and humanely. Laverne was a good example of that type of person.
Doesn't really matter if you're an atheist or fanatically religious as long as you respect others beliefs. After all it's a discreet personal relation between a human and whatever he chooses to believe as a divine force, and not for the sake of "show-offy" business.
Thank you for such open mindedness, I respect you.
I'm a person of faith and I respect everyone's views. I can't stand Christians who act like their belief is the only right way and everyone else is evil and going to hell. I also can't stand atheists who act like their belief is the only right way and everyone else is a moron
What this scene showed is that Dr. Cox and Laverne are very similar in that they both see pain and suffering everyday and wonder "Why?" yet they chose very different paths to deal with this question and pain. Dr Cox understands how much the pain hurts and he drinks his pain away. Laverne processes her pain through her Faith, believing it all happens for a reason. Cox understands that we all have vices, albeit more or less healthy ones, to process pain
Laverne was actually judgy, nosy and hypocritical and often tried to impose her religious views on others. So, not really a good example of "that" person
Dr. Cox actually was going to believe Laverne but.... that coma turned him back into the cynic he has been. Its makes the moment harder to bare.
Or maybe her accident made her speech that much more impactful toward dr.cox her accident was bad but like she said bad things can make things become good she served God's purpose she put the thought of faith in dr.cox mind when he never would believed before
@@AdjustingMindGames No. He was ready to have some faith UNTIL the accident. Afterwards, wanted nothing of it again. He even said it, like "where's purpose in THAT". You missed the point. The accident nullified the speech. Use logic
One thing I like about scrubs is that every death hits like a ton of bricks and they don’t just kill people for shock value. Even the patients deaths hurt.
"If I stop believing, I won't be able to come into work tomorrow."
And she never did come in to work that day. D:
Because she got in an accident not because she stopped believing.
J1234 Well fuckin duh lol But it was symbolic of a sentence to say.
AgentX7k2 bull
That's not the line. She said she wouldn't be able to show up tomorrow. She did show up. Just not the way anyone wanted it.
The sad thing is: If she hadn't come into work that day, she wouldn't have been in the accident.
John C. McGinley's facial expression at the end of the clip is just pure acting genius.
this is what makes scrubs such a good show it can be so funny but then it can get so sad and heartful just like that
Such a powerful scene. The goodbye episode had me bawling and laughing at the same time. Not many shows can do that.
This was always the biggest "wham" moment of any show I have ever seen. I don't think it could ever be topped.
the music for scrubs is so amazing. almost every song on the show is by someone who i havent heard from
I know right, I always had shazzam ready watching the show
Dr. Cox apologizing immediately after realizing how much he hurt Laverne is one of my favorite scenes. We've all put our foot in our mouth at one time or another, and Dr. Cox's face of realization says it all.
The Song is perfect for this scene...
Scrubs combines some of the funniest jokes and the saddest moments on TV in one show. And they does it in an absolutely unique and ingenious way.
Love the way they chose a song that sounds as if Laverne could have sung it. Such a perfect fit.
You can't help but admire Dr. Cox, the way he so quickly realizes it's not about feeding his ego by being right and immediately swallow his pride and abandons his coping mechanisms in order to respect other people's. Same as when he acknowledged Dan's threat or when he admitted to Elliot he was afraid. He became what he is because of his job (and Jordan's affair with his protégé no doubt) but he never hesitates to cast down that mask to accommodate people that deserve/need it
It's not an affair if they weren't together, but still a murky situation.
This scene shocked me so much when I first saw it. You have this cozy feeling at first cause it's so wholesome and then the shock fucking hits you. It's so brilliantly written.
Only show that could make you laugh in one minute and have you cry in the next.
That ending hit like a sledgehammer the first time I saw it.
The way her voice broke, like a mix of authority and begging like i wont let you take this from me/ please don't try. Beautiful. And she tries to help him that to ma is a spiritual being. No matter what you still try and help.
One, if not THE best character in the show. The only one who made me cry. I know it's justa show, but man, it still hurt.
The end is so sad, when dr. cox looks at laverne so shocked. :-(
And the song really makes you sad, when you watch that scene...
damn,
why did laverne's strongest scene be one of her last...
That is why we distance ourselves, that’s why we make jokes. We don’t do it because it’s fun - we do it so we can get by.
Dr Cox
I still cry when I see that bit.i really miss scrubs...
One of the most breaking scenes in Scrubs. Actually...for me...the saddest.
You can see the exact moment he listens
I cried when I first saw this she was one of my fav characters in the show. i'm glad thro that actress got to play another character when Laverne got killed off
This whole Laverne death was undercut when they introduced her "Twin" sister.
I am an atheist but sometimes I wish I could think that too
Ask him if he can show up and you will be surprised.
According to Wikipedia, sometimes songs were chosen before the scripts for episodes were finished - that's how central music is to Scrubs. I think that this scene is from one such episode.
When dr cox apologized you realized how he respects her
you dont even know how much i love scrubs
and yet the beginning of this episode started with a giant horn that shouted BOOOOOOBIES every time you blew into it.
the name of the song is "Ain't No Reason" by Brett Dennen
If you've never had a moment like this in ur life, then ur not living it to it's full potential...
I cried so much at the end of the next episode..... so so so much
Totally agree. It was one of the few shows that I felt I could really connect with almost every character on there, and I wish it was a real place lol.
Scrubs is just amazing It's comedy and tragedy combined to a show, which makes me laugh and cry at the same time... What a pity, that it already ended...
Please correct my English, if it's false... :D
Your English is just fine Sir, I'm sure it's better than my grasp of your mother tongue
+Jim Smith Haha thank you :)
+Patrick Little haha thanks :)
the song is Brett Dennen - Ain't No Reason
Brett Dennen - Ain't No Reason, quite an awesome song
totally agree. and they are good songs/artists.
This episode rocks by far the most!
Wow... He apologized. Omg that's a miracle in my book. Damn
Even he realises when he crosses the line
just shows you how important it is to hang on to the relationships you have
The irony of the situation is that Laverne actually does show up to work tomorrow, which is when she has the accident. Beautiful.
I wish the producers had gone with their original plan for the actress who played Laverne. After her death, she was supposed to come back on the show as Laverne's twin sister who was her polar opposite. I'm glad that they kept their promise of not writing her out of the show. Unfortunately, I hated to see her pushed further into the background, and only showing up once or twice with a mask on, and JD trying to figure out why she seemed so familiar.
Love how she clung to her faith
Go Laverne, she was one of the best characters in the whole show, I must admit, I was gutted when she was killed off
Almost on par with Laverne-Again. ;)
Everytime I hear the phrase unresponsive, I shutdown. My brother died about a month ago and that was the state they found him in. I know it's a common thing medically but it's still fucking me up
Been hospitalized a lot due to my incurable medical condition. Hated seeing this in real life. Saw terrible groups turn happy and happy groups turn terribly sad. Incidents can make big changes. I (and others) made the priests often walk away as we made them finally understand our point of view. Cried a bit always hearing the end of this. As it reminds me of incidents that occurred to families I saw and makes me think how people thought of me when hospitalized by 5 and in and out ever since badly.
The reason she died was because god need his favourite angel back. : ' ) R.I.P Laverne
Love scrubs wish they would come back
love this show and this song
I don't think i have seen a show that had better music than scrubs. This kind of scenes would be nothing without the music. Scrubs would be just another sitcom without the perfect music they have on every touching scene.
i love her speech at the start..... so pwerful
I came here from Ross' couch cut in half episode. I came here for Nurse Laverne.
I saw it 3 times the series...Back to back lol. Just that great! And I just finished prison break...cried at the finale.
Thank you :)
She's supposed to be laverne's cousin. It's because she was promised a part in scrubs if it was continued after the 6th season.
İ cried the first time i saw this on the tv
@NewTerranStyle
its the song Ain't no reason by Brett Dennen
and her pain and reason is understandable. some people need things to believe in, and who are we atheist to judge? we have our own beliefs.
thank u ive been trying forever to find the name of this song!!! thnx
This ending was an absolute gut punch.
love that speech
thanks man,.,
As funny as Scrubs was, they were excellent at catching you off guard with emotional gut punches.
oh god, this is so touching, i'm crying... :'(
Okay she was on this show for six seasons! And then she gets killed off. I think its great they brought her back. Plus I love the whole Laverne and Shirley thing.
Love Aloma's acting here. Wish they had more dramatic scenes with Laverne
love his face at 00:16. turns from "cocky" to loving
Yea, I cried. First time in a few years, wow
R.I.P Lervern
that look on dr. cox face at the end is so sad.
i know it hurts, im sorry you had to feel love and then watch it walk away.
Dr. Cox is arrogant, mean, and insensitive. But he also pushed people to be the best versions of themselves in their jobs, apologizes when he goes too far, knows when to back off people, cares deeply about his patients, and is a damn good doctor who I would want treating me, because I know he’s going to be honest, knows what he’s doing, and will do everything he can to help me. He also punched Kelso when he was mercilessly going after Elliot, which was too far even for him. He’s a psychological head case that is afraid to form attachments with anyone, but he has his own way of caring for those around him with whom he respects.
When I first watched this I genuinely thought it was Lavern singing the song 🤣
Right in the feels
It was sad when laverne died.
Libs today would have a heart attack and criticise Laverne for having her beliefs
Whenever I hear someone trying to complain about religion I just think of this speech that Laverne gives. People have their reasons for believing the things they believe, and we shouldn't judge others for thinking differently. She didn't think any less of Cox for being an atheist.
What i complain about are those that try and force there realigion on to others like American republicans if you just live your life and people still go after u then you have an allie
He didn't attack her. He tried to prove her wrong.
ain't no reason - brett dennen
I always tear up when I watch this episode/ending.
