    One small addition concerning the diplomatic stance.
    Expansionist lowers outpost build cost by 10%. Thats not only the alloys but also the influence.
    So instead of 75 influence, it costs 67 influence to build an outpost. That adds up quite a bit.

    • @jimmcneal5292
      @jimmcneal5292 2 года назад +17

      And influence is the most important resourse in the beginning of the game imo, at least if hyperlane density is low, because it lets take chokepoints.

    talking about the alloy trick - you should either use the alloys to get more science ships or you can sell 25 *a day* to get enough energy to buy minerals for an immediate(around 10 days) research lab

    • @Ep3o
      @Ep3o  3 года назад +18

    Intermediate tip: Migration treaties worth very valuable influence, so instead of keeping them, just form it, send a colony ship with the new specie or species, then break it for a temporary negative diplomatic minimal hit. Get the new specie and safe influence for expansion and non-aggression pacts instead, a win-win.

  • @reinofkaos
    @reinofkaos 3 года назад +41

    You can start your first colony ship on month 2. Montu Plays had this tip, but you empty your ships to get the 120+ alloys, then sell 50 alloys for energy, set up the monthly trade to get rid of your food surplus, then wait one month. You should have just enough energy to buy 100 consumer goods. Testing this with a normal empire just left me with 204 food, 203 consumer and 208 alloys, which you can then start your colony ship.

    Right at the Start:
    Unemploy both Administrators: They use 2 Comsumer Goods each and are totally worthless until you are about to finish a tech (over 70 months) or adopt a tradition (21 months). As a result you have safed 21 x 4 = 84 Consumer goods. Those are greatly needed for the Colony Ships.

    I usually switch over to isolationist after my first 1 - 2 colonies. If you go hard into the Expansion tree and you're playing a spiritualist, then you've already got plenty of unity, and you'll get a lot more benefit from developing colonies earlier. I have never liked the naked ship 'hack' to be honest.
    The first game that I ever played, I had some people walking me through it, they told me to do that and I did, and then the Cult (Final Crucible) showed up, and I was left with my pants down and forced to upgrade my ships again, in order to go to war with them.
    Since then I've had better starts, I've had worse starts. I've tried doing the 'naked ship trick' sometimes, sometimes not. And from my experience, I personally DONT do it from now on. And here are my reasons:
    1. It's annoying. Having to do that and then remember to equip your ships again when you want to use them is kind of a pain in the ass to be honest.
    2. It invites attack. Doing this will reduce your fleet power to Zero. That will cause the AIs to say 'hey look he's weak, let's plant claims and go to war now!' The more 'benevolent' AI will see that you're weak and try to vassalize you instead. Either way, very annoying.
    3. Even if you are alone for quite time or you're surrounded by Xenophiles who have zero intention of going to war with you, you are STILL going to run into random hostile aliens that will block your expansion paths. Vanilla or DLC, this is unavoidable. You'll have to reequip your ships to deal with them. Unless you like random space ameobas/crystal beings/mining drones telling you where you can and cannot grow.
    4. Relegating to 2 and 3, when hostilities do start, you'll have to waste time putting weapons back on your ships in order to actually fight the war or skirmishes. Time that they will then use to get a leg up on you. Time you could have been using to beat the breaks off of them.
    "Buhbuhbuh you can just put defense platforms at the choke points early game and whittle down their fleets while you -" Well that kind of defeats the whole point of doing this, doesn't it? You're making your ships naked to save alloys... which you then spend on defense platforms to buy time for you to regain alloys for you to upgrade your ships. Or... you could just not try to be too clever and just spend the alloys on the ships and not have this issue in the first place.
    5. You still have to pay to re-upgrade your ships. All you're really doing is shifting the costs ahead of time. Better to just pay once and be done with it, especially when it comes to throwaway ships like corvettes, than to do this nonsense.
    If you want extra alloys, you're better off buying like 5-10 per month when you start while selling off items you really don't have much of a use for (food, c. goods) for extra credits (which you can't make much use of early on anyway.)
    "But with the alloys I get from the 3 corvettes I can get two more science/con ships right away!"
    ... Yeah, and what are you going to do with them? You forget here that science ships need scientists, and you need unity to hire those, so you're still capped at how fast you can get those out and surveying. As for construction ships, having more than two early game really does you no favors, as you are capped from building starbases by three things: alloys, influence, and how fast your ships are surveying systems. Even if you nip the alloy problem in the bud, the influence problem will still slow you down, so even if you're just fast-building starbases to expand your borders as fast as possible, it really does not pay to have more than 2 or 3 (one or two for building starbases and one for building mining/research stations).
    So you got 200 alloys and spent them on science and/or construction ships. Neato. Now watch them mill about your homeworld for 5 minutes because you can't do anything with them yet, and by the time you actually could buy the scientists and/or have enough worlds surveyed with the one you actually CAN make use of, you've have the alloys to buy them anyway for some time (provided you aren't being an idiot with your economy).

    Tip for making a colony. When you de-prio the colony work jobs they will be unemployed for 800+ days before switching to worker and the planet will be very unhappy. The best thing you can do is make a building (Robot assembly) asap and put that specialist to use there. The best minmax is to allow 1 colony job and when u got the assembly allow 0
    If you have expansion tradition and got 2 pop U will have to make an extra specialist slot even for mining/farming/gen worlds I recommend holo-threater and put that pop as a muscian, since u will end up needing the amenities pretty fast since nobody likes to do manual labor lel..

    im retarded at math so correct me if im wrong but the retrofit thing you did the alloys makes no sense to me. it looks like cheating to farm alloys and i don't feel satisfaction from doing something the developers probably didnt intend for you to do. no hate or anything just saying lol but i will do the isolationist trick

    • @Ep3o
      @Ep3o  2 года назад

      It essentially is creating more alloys than you’re meant to start with, but they start you with 3 ships so maybe it isn’t.
      It defo is worth it though, because an early planet is super super valuable and getting resources from this trick helps you get a colony ship building by month 2!
      You don’t have to use it if you don’t want too, it’s a bit exploity xD
      Glad the isolationist trick will help you :)

    OK ---. You are not running a RACE here but trying to Teach Students! Slow down and Give your Students time to soak in What you are Talking about.. As well as see what your Hyper Mach number Curser lands on before you jerk it away. At the speed you are Blabbing and Jerking, most of what you are saying goes in one ear and out the other if they understand it at all!!! Ask any Teacher and they will tell you teaching is not a RACE or Auction... It is a marathon so slow down and pace yourself!

    this is interesting and useful but the the video seems slow and not very entertaining. I watched purely because I am a noob a Stellars and I need as much help as I can get. but to educated people that just want a few more tips would probably rather figure it out for themselves than watch this video. now don get me wrong the tips in your video are extremely helpful but as a youtuber you need to make it more entertaining. me personally I am not a youtuber but I specialize in marketing and I have a few successful youtuber friends. by the way I love your RUclips profile pic I used to love the movie (iron giant).
