Almost caught up on my backlog of NVC episodes, just wanted to say this was an awesome episode (that quiz 😂). Great chemistry and I’d love to see John and Charles return to the show in the future.
I was present at the Wii launch at the Times Square Toys R Us at midnight, the line stretched down several blocks. Nintendo passed out white winter skullcaps and rubber armbands, and I still have both of mine! I was talking with a relative who was still up at the time and while unboxing it, we both mentioned how the Wii was _the sum of its parts._ I thoroughly enjoyed my Wii, the thing I liked the most was the Virtual Console. My brother championed the TurboGraphx 16 and the Wii had some _choice cuts_ from that old 16-bit machine. People don’t know about _Air Zonk!_ The RUclips Channel _Virtual Gaming Library_ recently completed it’s TurboGraphx 16 CD and PC Engine CD catalogue and Air Zonk is on the thumbnail (currently) so that’s something worth checking out! Something else I especially enjoyed about the Virtual Console were the modern retro style games. The remake of Castlevania Adventure made me all hot and bothered, that and Gradius Rebirth and that Contra game made me realize that developers should be making _this kind of game._ Now we have those and I couldn’t be happier! Great Jeremy Parrish shout out, as well! That channel is excellent. I enjoyed his SNES Paper Boy 2 video. It has a fun gag in it. Great Stuff all around!
To this day, I think the Wii-era UX was unmatched in terms of creativity. The apps, music, and sleekness were awe-inspiring to me as a kid. It had a very solid design identity. Sure, the Switch prefers to let the games speak for itself (and they do), but the rest of the console is fairly indistinct.
Excite Bots trick racing was one of my fav games on the Wii. It's stuck on that console, but I really wish that series would get an installment on switch.
Hey Peer -- about the TV remote comment: You should LG's TV remotes. They don't use a sensor bar, but they use gyro/accelerometer and essentially feel like Wii remote when selecting things on the menu. When I got a new LG TV with that remote, I was like.....whoa....this is a Wii Remote. Complete with pointer and everything!
I stick to point that the Wii pioneered Apps and the app interface! Individual small icons on the grid predates iPhone and definitely facilitated the familiarity on there
I think Nintendo consoles really are the best in terms of the nostalgia factor. Picking the old ones up after a few years is always so much fun and brings back such positive memories. I recently hooked up my WiiU and purchased a 3DS and I can’t put them down!
Graphically the Wii was absolutely subpar, BUT I loved playing FPS games on it. Nothing has compared when it came to the tactile feel of aiming. Even during the Wii U era, I'd hook up the Wii remote for CoD. It's not the same these days aiming with a pro controller in Splatoon
I gave up Splatoon when I figured out you can win every time by ignoring the battle and just painting the outside. At that point it’s video game decorating.
Splatoon is so good. You have to learn the controls with practice. They're so good, you'll never want to play a game without gyro again. Also, you're going to lose 3 times all the time. You'll lose 6 times in a row. But then you'll win 5 in a row. It all balances out. Use Splattershot Jr and focus on inking ground, it comes with extra large ink tank. Splatting does not win games. Covering the ground with ink wins games. And NEVER engage the enemy one on one. You need backup, so always cling together in pairs when you engage in combat.
As much as I have some nostalgia for some of the Wii games, the system ultimately wasn't very good. The WiiU was a VAST improvement.....that came too late.
I completely agree. If the wii had been released with the wii u hardware, it would have been a way better console. PS3 and Xbox360 would have a real competition. As much as the wii have sold, I think it belongs to a diferent era.
@@CCoreXB neither did the Wii, because it was underpowered. The Wii U should have been what Nintendo released initially with 360 and PS3. They wastes the perfect opportunity to dominate again.
@@blackdragon6 woah, the Wii had a crazy amount of third party support, probably more than any Nintendo console before the Switch. Just googled it, it had 1600 games in itsentire life cycle.
Splatoon 3 in the morning (Americas): Oh the Japanese are online! * Proceeds to get smashed by their amazing dodging abilities. Lol at Seth's comment on FF13, I was late to that party but the tutorials end at 30 hours in no joke. Now I feel old about that Circuit City comment, it was like a Best Buy.
Nope nope nope. Memor-Wii Lane is a pun to far across the line Mr. Macy. However the discussion of anagrams of heart and YMCA redeemed to we shall call it even for the week.
Hold on a second, a follow up to Horizon Chase Turbo?? Yes please. Although I’m also playing Return to Monkey island, as I’m in that old people genre myself. 🤪
I still adore the DS. It and the PS3 tug on my nostalgia strings from that era when I was in high school. Never liked the Wii. I sat outside a target in an Ohio winter all night for it when it launched and was disappointed. Liked Zelda, Metroid, and a handful of very late RPGs like Xenoblade and Pandora's Tower. But really nothing else on the console ever held my interest. Though it was great that it played GC games. That's mostly what I used it for, because I missed the GC. As for digital vs physical, I've heavily moved back to physical. After Nintendo and Sony have shut down access to past versions of PSN and the eshop, it scared me away from digital. They can steal access to the games we own at a moment's notice and it's legal for them to do so.
3:07 We learned something important in this NVC episode: Peer Schneider was actually the inspiration for the character of Sheldon Cooper in The Big Bang Theory.

I don't like Splatoon either. I like how it looks but the gameplay isn't fun to me. Maybe I would like the single player but I definitely don't like multiplayer.
I swear so many more would love Splatoon like me if they didn’t have motion control as a default. Turn it off and it becomes the one of the best games of all time.
Take this episode out to the backyard and shoot it lol. Can’t blame the cast. Nintendo has nothing announced or coming until tears of the kingdom. Dark times ahead for NVC.
How are people still misusing the word “retro”? Retro means a new product that is designed to imitate a past product, like the SNES and NES mini consoles, a console that is actually old and original isn’t retro.
My guy, Its not that serious. Its the english language where denotations and connotation exists. There are many words in the english language in which the connotation is used more than the its denotation. Nintendo and Sony uses the word retro to describe NSO + PS+ Premium. We all know what the denotation of retro is yet the vast majority of people go by its connotation. No ones arguing its denotation is dead. It happens. Relax. Lol.
Constructive criticism: Can we please have a different NVC host? Listening/watching Seth as host makes the podcast less fun. I would like Casey Defreitas to come back. I don't mean to be mean.
@@brianwendorff1004 I don't like him as the host. The term Ninfriendo is one of the reasons why I don't like "him as host". It's my opinion. If you like him, that's your opinion and I respect that. Respect the fact that I don't.

The best Mario power up is the cat. Period. (I’ve been playing since 1990’s before everyone says “your too young”)

Great story thanks for sharing
The wii was vintage when it launched
Best coment by far!! LMAO
I liked Wii but that is hilarious
Nintendo is vintage i mean look at their games and look at everything else 😂
Pretty much everything Nintendo launches is 5 years behind the times
🤣🤣🤣

They did release a Wii U VC port of it to buy as well (although come March you won't be able to buy it digitally there).
My LG C1 OLED 4KTV remote uses Wiimote like motion to navigate menus. Its actually just gyro but it works VERY well
Peer: Games are not designed to be just motion experience anymore
Nintendo: *puts "1-2-Switch 2" back on the shelf*
Ha. They seem to not have needed additional encouragement to hide that game thus far.
Whoa, your guest is making me feel so old, was like 27 in 2007 😅👴

As someone who was IN LOVE with Daisy Fuentes back then, I’m proud of my sealed copy of that Wii game I have 😂
I listen for the games, I stay for obscure Simpsons references.

The wii and all it’s packaging is still the best looking system of all time to me, followed closely by the Dreamcast
I still play with my Wii to this day 😊
Translation: There was no news this week.
Love my Wii, especially since I use it mainly for my gamecube games
Another thing with Netflix on 360 is that they required you to have Xbox Live Gold too.
Awesome show and panel! Seth, you are one of the best hosts that's ever hosted the show. Also, love the quiz segment! :)
C’mon man. I loved DK64.

Right? I prefer fighting.
This episode was fantastic. And I would absolutely tune in to the bargain bin public access show.
Level 3 Seth for the Frog Suit... it did appear some in later levels, but it first appeared in World 3 of SMB3.

I find the gyro controls distracting so turned them off. Great game otherwise aside from the servers that need an overhaul.

It was one of the best selling consoles of all time - the wiiu flopped (I owned both but that’s the reality)
I completely agree. If the wii had been released with the wii u hardware, it would have been a way better console. PS3 and Xbox360 would have a real competition. As much as the wii have sold, I think it belongs to a diferent era.

The LG Magic Remote is the best TV remote - I never connected to Wii but has the same tactile satisfaction
RE4 on Wii is the most fun!
DK64 goes top 102%. I think there's one more banana near the waterfall by the tree house

Marios best powerup is Yoshi, get hit multiple and reclaim him, runs, swallows and can be sacrificed for further jumps if needed.
Blossom Tales actually lost me at one point.
There was a copy of Just Dance 2019 for the Wii I my local Walmart until sometime last year
The cover was pretty sun faded

I also 101%d DK64. Fellow enjoyer here!

Hey Seht, really a great Show!!! looking forward to DK64 on Nintendo Online!
Nothing after the 5th Gen should be considered vintage, at least not for another decade and a half give or take.
We never wanted to get rid of the wii but my dad got rid of it and gave it to goodwill

I know tons of Splatoon players that use motion and love it all the same.
Wii was vintage when gamecube was
Call me a whackadoo but this would have been a better timed conversation last November when Wii DID turn 15
My LG tv has a motion remote haha
When are y'all getting back to in person podcasts? The pandemic has been over for a good while now. You will be fine, I promise
Yikes, what a weird point to make. Feeling a little agenda here.
Fireball
Yeah, I don't like Wii. Never liked the motion controls. Actually I don't like that console generation at all with 360 and PS3.
I prefer Fortnite over Splatoon too! Fortnite is great!
