    That's a common and reliable WeatherPack connector very easily taken apart to switch polarity. You should put a notation in the video...

  • @scottwinters4545
    @scottwinters4545 7 лет назад +17

    Hey that connector is a GM General Motors -AC Delco connector , I don't know the part number off the top of my head but both ends are available. and with a small pick or a safety pin you can depress the terminals retainer tang and remove and switch the wires to correct the polarity.

    oh and the plug is identical to the Chinese HID power plug. it's not really a GM weather pack connector it's more like the connector of a 9005 bulb and/or hid ballast power connectors. here's a link to what would work on this radio..... www.ebay.com/itm/2-Pcs-H11-H8-H9-Wire-Harness-HID-ballast-to-Stock-Socket-For-HID-Conversion-Kit-/331152616861?hash=item4d1a3bed9d:g:0I8AAOxyXzxTIq~4&vxp=mtr

    R U Kding us? Do people _really_ leave you comments complaining that you don't give your call sign when you're conducting your tests? Don't get me wrong. I believe you. Idiots get a few alpha-numeric characters and they think they're Nazi enforcers! They actually are enforcers, of a type. They take pride in those characters and yeah, I've seen instances where they are quick to call down the power of Olympus and change the course of the river Styx once they get assigned their call signs. And it does show quickly non-descript people can become government informers if given a uniform, an armband or a call sign. It's like that blond kid in the SOUND OF MUSIC. In his case he got an armband and a uniform with a neat little hat and that girl and her family didn't have a chance! Can you imagine if she lived here and hadn't used a dummy load?? Yeah.
    I'm all for obeying the law and all, but I can mess with my radios (HTs or my mobile TH-8600, or my base TH-9800P) and most of the time no one's using the airwaves which BTW, the courts have consistently ruled as belonging to the people. I can scan to my heart's content and most of the time no one's on the airwaves! It's the sound of silence!
    So to those who can't stand to see someone else spend, what was it, three seconds, without giving a call sign, I'll give you a quarter and you can get a life! And when I start making videos, if ever I do, I'll dedicate a good ten seconds, without any call sign whatsoever, to you.
    As for the TH-8600, does it come with a cigarette lighter connection? And do you think the wire screw-up was just the way TYT does it, or do you think it was unintentional? Also, why does TYT _lock_ its radios with no absolutely no instructions on how to unlock them? What could it possibly gain from doing it?

    Hi Jason, I have the Rugged Radio RM25R-WP which looks to be a copy of the TYT you feature here. Looks the same but is restricted to a smaller range of channels and other programming features, like using repeaters. I'd like to be able to "unlock" the features of my radio to do what the TYT radio does. Do you think I can accomplish this with the programming cable and keypad mic, or should I just buy a new radio?
    BTW; I'm almost 3 hours into the technicians class on your channel working toward my Tech license. Good stuff.

    I bought one of these slightly used at the local hamfest and as soon as I confirmed it worked, I replaced the proprietary connector with a Yaesu/Kenwood/Alinco "T" connector and added power poles ahead of the fuse. Now it's compatible with every mobile VHF/UHF rig hookup I have. Nice radio as a backup or in tight spaces. I may get a second for the GO kit.

    I realize this is an older video but it brings up an old question. So many guys say "stay away from TYT" or "TYT is just junk". These are the same guys that tell everyone to buy only Yaesu and Icom but not everyone wants (nor can afford) to spend a ton of money on every radio they buy. TYT appears to make some pretty decent stuff, right?

    When I saw this video I bought the radio. (Also the Ham Radio 2.0: Episode 89 - Unboxing the QYT KT7900D Quad-Band Mini-Mobile Radio). I also bought the RT programming software. But both radios seem to be "Larry Proof". I've been waiting for a savvy RUclips poster to put something out to help, but nothing. There's one guy that has a training video but it's hard to listen to and follow along with. (Perhaps alcohol related). Is there anything out there that will help. I think my main problem is my time is limited to learn stuff. Or maybe my brain is just too full.? I do rely on RUclips to help with the rough stuff, (ie: How to install a dishwasher... 9 minute lesson and I am an expert, Hey? ( Yes, I'm from Michigan)). But there is a serious lack of training helps for these radios. And maybe it is the software I'm having trouble with. I don't really need the radios but either one would be great in the mobile. For a hundred dollars more I could have bought a Yaesu. You're never sorry you paid for quality... Guess I learned a lesson - always the hard way. Hey? Love the effort you put into your program. 73 W2AAO

      I no longer have that radio, else I would do a video for it. Perhaps in the future I can try to do programming vids as a follow up to a new, unboxing vid too.
      If I can get ahold of another one of these, I will see about getting another video posted for programming. I think they have a waterproof version now, which wasn't available when I made this first video.
