High Speed Trains at Silly, HSL 1 & Line 94 - 10/05/17

- Video: An afternoon spotting high speed and stopper trains at Silly station/Gare de Silly in Belgium, the point at which Belgian railway line 94 & HSL 1 (from Lille to Brussels Midi) run parallel to each other and intersect. I filmed from the bridge by the station and on a steep gradient by the HSL 1 lineside, both of which gave great views.
For such a quiet and peaceful area, there were quite a few stopper services with SNCB/NMBS running trains from Brussels Airport to Tournai. As for high speed traffic on HSL 1, there were plenty of Thalys TGVs running to/from Paris, Lille, Cologne & Amsterdam etc. and a few SNCF TGVs & Eurostar 373 TMSTs about too. On top of that this was my first ever time seeing Thalys' low cost IZY high speed service which operates from Brussels to Paris, which was pretty exciting.
Overall this was a very enjoyable spot, this is an area I had been longing to visit or spot at for years, and I hope to go back in the future.
Back in May when this was filmed my tripod was a bit stiff and rusted, so apologies for some of the clucking sounds, I did my best to edit the noisiest parts out.

Why do thalys and tgv trains have one loco on one end with a pantograph down? Eurostars have them up on front and back loco?
Because the Thalys ones have a powercable that runs on the roof from one loco to the other, so that one loco could supply power to the other, because of the need of being to be able to run on different voltages. The Eurostar doesn't have it (power cable on the roof).

Nope, that's just a rubber ring. It's designed like that so that you can couple the together, the driver cabine would swing out of the way and you could cross between the coaches.
