Trains at Brussels-South (Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid) - 10/05/17

- Video: A mid-afternoon spotting international, intercity and some local trains at Brussels-South/Midi/Zuid (Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid) station. There was a lot to see and spot here, but at the same time it was extremely difficult to do this extensively due to the heavy security patrols at this station. I began the spot on the 'through' international platforms (which connect to the Netherlands & Germany, etc.) getting some nice close-ups of some TGV, Thalys TGV & ICE3M sets and in the distance I recorded a few intercity trains, then out of nowhere security told me to leave the international platforms. So then I switched to the domestic platforms, and there were armed patrols with sniffer dogs going on intermittently on every platform, so at this point it became a game of 'hide & seek' to continue to do this train spot.
In the end I managed to catch a decent amount for the couple of hours I was there, lots of loco hauled trains about which was nice to see them still going strong, as well as some modern EMUs like the Desiro Mainline (one I caught a lot of in this video), and the AM96 which has a strange looking unique rubber-looking front to them.

SNCB/NMBS Class AM08 Desiro Mainline trains & Class AM80s & Class AM96s & Class 27s with M4 stock & Class 18 (Siemens) with M6 stock, Nederlandse Spoorwegen/DB Class 406 ICE3M trains, SNCF TGV Réseau sets (incl. Carmillon livery), Thalys TGV PBA & PBKA sets and Eurostar Class 373 TGV TMST e300s.

Yeah, I once wanted to spot the Thalys by going all the way to the front of the platform, but I wasn't allowed through the platform mannagers and security. I was only allowed to spot from the stairsµ
i really liked the blue livery of the french TGV ,who're unfortunetely today turned into a black livery instead very bad
I really enjoyed seeing all those TGV, Thalys and Eurostar trains. I am thinking about filming trains there myself as I will be staying in Amsterdam so my plan is to get a return trip on the Thalys as then I should be okay to film trains as I was wondering if it would be best to ask the station manager first before I film trains. As then, the security wouldn't have to worry about me doing my hobby. I would appreciate any advice on filming trains there for when I visit in 2018. Great video by the way mate.

Thanks very much mate, you can try that though I can't guarantee it would go well. They'll probably say something annoying like 'you need permission in writing', so that's why you sometimes have to sneak film. You may be lucky in that they think you are a tourist from London (I wasn't though). The best advice I can give though when spotting at Brussels Midi, is stay mainly on domestic platforms rather than the 'through' international ones as there is less intense security checks
Nice variety there great video. Why did the staff tell you to leave the international platform. Personally I think it's silly staff are so over protective at trains stations. Trainspotters should be allowed to film whatever they like

The security staff asked me at first, 'Do you have a ticket to board these trains', then I said 'no' and I tried to partially say I was a train spotter or rail fan in french, that didn't work then they told me to leave and it was as I left that there were a pack of sniffer dog checks by the escalators... and things got scary quickly. I think it was because I didn't have a TGV, Thalys or ICE ticket, but there was no clear sign that said you can't be on the platform, I mean there were benches. Its a shame it happened at such a good station like Brussels Midi

I was in belguim for a week and a broken down train ment we got the other train at bruge but THEN i was going to Koln for the day but a broken down Train was in ICE Plat so it went into the next free platform
