WE will keep the tradition of KARATE.....the sport is good....but KARATE didnt originate for this reason. OUR traditional understanding must always remain, or the SPIRIT will be lost.....KARATE and SPIRIT are ONE ...this is what OUR great teachers have taught for centuries.........................BODY-MIND-SPIRIT....Peace on 🌎......thank you for the awsome video Amigo!
Best episode so far. Always be thinking about bunkai! It looks like Tamaki sensei was doing Potsai and Sakugawa No Kun, two forms that we practice in Chito Ryu. The series has been excellent, thank you!
It is important to remember where you came from..these sensei emphasize that in their comments. Okinawan Karate is understood only by strong mind body and Spirit...the glue that combine these three is Sweat. Kata Yakusoku and Makiwara are essential to find bunkai...there in find the proper teacher you can call Sensei.
I received a certificate from SEIGEN TAMAKI in 1969 in Nago is this the same family , I was competing in Judo when he was the president of Okinawa Judo Assoc ?
Such a wonderful series. I am a little confused, though, about one point of this video. Online I read that Tamaki-sensei is the head of Kokusai Shogen-ryu, but here the title card says he is with Shorin Ryu Karate do International. I understand Shogen-ryu grew from Shorin Ryu, but I thought the website for Okinawa Shogen-ryu, under Maeda-sensei, specifically states that it is now separate from other branches of Shorin Ryu. Is Tamaki-sensei affiliated with Maeda-sensei and Okinawa Shogen-ryu Karate-do? Are they (Maeda-sensei and Tamaki-sensei) separately continuing the tradition of Shogen Ryu's founder Taba Sensei? Sorry if this is an odd or in any way inappropriate question. I am just very curious, and would like to study with both of the men and their students if the opportunity ever arises.
It would be great to expand the portrait series and the video series to masters of Okinawan karate based overseas, or karate masters up on mainland Japan. Currently our time and budget restricts us to focus only on Okinawa as it where I live.
@@OkinawanSpirit you are doing a wonderful job. These masters records will be precious to future generations. The direct lineage from the origins is disappearing. this is golden - thank you for this opportunity
Not really seen anyone throw an elbow strike from the hip like he did@ 8+. Love what he said from 4.00... That basically answers all the critics of Traditional Karate
Your work is great, thank you for posting it! Perhaps you should remove the image of the calloused knuckles as that really isn't what a makiwara is for and might be construed to be promoting bad practices. Or not!
Los Japoneses se adueñaron del Okinawa-Te, y quieren borrar los indicios del Okinawa te, que tiene influencia China, por eso era llamado To Di o To De, o la mano de china o DE Tang.
Very good interview with Grand Master of Shorin Ryu , but Will the same thing be done with Hanshi Sei Fusei Kise? It will be of great interest to me and my school of karate ... my respectful greeting
I photographed Fusei Kise and his son recently as part of the Karate Masters Portrait Project. I have offered to interview him for the series, we just have to wait until they are ready to take part.
@@OkinawanSpirit I'm excited to hear this ... I'll follow you! they have a great history of Okinawan Karate in their hands and good Stories of Gran Master Hohan Soken ...
Throughout my school life I was bullied. They mocked me because of my dark skin. And they use to beat me up. No one helped me. I made friends with some of my classmates thinking that they will help me. But when the bullies came they left me and joined the bullies to beat me up with them. Then I started learning kudo and karate. And I worked day and night to train myself. And then all my bullies avoided any conflict with me. Now I'm a black belt in karate and I know how it feels to be weak. But the truth is we are not weak its just a state to mind. So I thought of teaching everyone martial arts and rise above bullies. And started a RUclips channel. Always remember YOU ARE NOT WEAK. YOU ARE MORE THAN WHAT YOU THINK YOURSELF TO BE. NEVER EVER GIVE UP.

Daayum, this dude is almost 80 years old, and he can throw a punch on that bag harder than I can.
