In this video lesson for your C harmonica, I show you how to master the bottom two-thirds of the blues scale in a way that's super fun and musical. Хобби
This man has got to be the most simple and very detailed teacher I have ever seen and heard, thank you jp for sharing your gift that is in your heart, with me and all those who learn from you, as well as your humbleness and fun you bring to our lives with the great instrument the harmonica, thank you for your patience, and that you are a blessing, sincerely iam burl
I agree. JP is amazing!
Ps 9
Just coming back to this after 7 months. Still so relevant to harp playing. You still the man JP
Wow.... I think I learned more here how to sound more 'bluesy' than any other single one video. Guitar guy trying to get some harp chops down. I wasn't quite getting that 'wah wah' sound quite right, but now I can...sort of. lol.
I like harmonica . Don't have to hold in your lap or plug it in, change up settings, can bring it anywhere. Fits in your pocket.
This guy is a most excellent teacher.
my mom bought me a harmonica a week ago, ever since i started watching your videos, i've been getting progressively better! thank you so much JP Allen, you are a amazing teacher! Keep doing what you're doing, i'll be following all the wayyyy
Are u still playin'
Thanks for this lesson. I picked up the harmonica a little while ago and started to learn how to hit single notes and I can play some simple tunes, but with this lesson I'm starting to sound bluesy. There's hope for me yet...lol Thanks for the awesome video
If nothing else, your video has convinced me that I should not be discouraged if I struggle to learn a simple lick! I've been playing my own riffs for over 40 years, but even you admit that the techniques you show us--slow, deliberate repetition--are the same ones YOU used to learn. Which is good because I want to branch out from my own, stale sound and incorporate new sounds I like. Thanks! [Subscribed]
Yes! Right on, good for you. It's fun to always keep learning new things!
Rock on,
Luke
I just thought you might like to know that I’m a 65 year old Brit, two days into harmonica and I’m comfortable with this blues riff (after your first two beginner lessons). This is down to seriously good teaching. Thank you
Good on ya, where are you at now in progression?
The closest i ever get to learn how to play harmonica. Thank you for being a very good teacher. I'm getting better on playing my harmonica(s). Lots of love all the way from Borneo.
Man I've looked and tried so many tutorials and techniques, and this is the first video after which I feel like what I played actually sounded good. Subbed.
Love your energy man... I was feeling beaten down and you made harmonica fun again for me! :)
Great tutorial, thanks JP. Finally found a tutor who works with the instrument, the music and the student rather than his own ego. Refreshing and very helpful - big thanks mate.
Going to have a look a your website...
Just wanted to say thank you J.P. for the great lessons. Your patience and step by step instructions are inspiring. I am already 51 years of age but I feel, that thanks to you, I make good progress !!
Best regards from Nuremberg / Germany (the home of ginger bread)
Andreas
I know how you feel. I'm 72 and just learning all these bends etc.
I've just started and love the way you teach. Cheers JP Allen✌
Outstanding lesson; very helpful method! Thank You!!! I play with a neck rack and a guitar. So, the mouth form helps a lot as my hands are already busy
Playing for 2 days now. After buying the cheapest set i could find with a Harmonica in every (12) key. Learning the octave was one thing. Thank you, this makes me feel i'm actualy playing something. Also because it takes some practice but isn't to hard :D
I actually think it sound way better in the key of D. But that is a personal thing i guess :)
Thanks again. I'm going to snoop around your page some more
Your instructional technique is fantastic. Thank you for sharing your skills. Great job!
Hey there JP. Just wanted to say that I really like your style man. Thanks for what you do up here on RUclips. Really appreciate it.
Im a beginner and am enjoying my c harmonica alot! What a fun teacher you are and thanks for this lesson video 🤟🏻
Glad you enjoy it!
JP I've been playing harmonica for 2 weeks now and you've helped me improve 10 fold! You're a great teacher and making me very happy learning a new instrument!
Holy crap. The ta is everything. Couldn't figure out why I kept bending the 2 hole so badly. Thank you!
I'm gonna have so much fun with this!
Very good. Thanks for this helpful lesson.
Thank you! First Time I feel like I can play blue for real after a lesson.
Man, I just found your videos. I WANT TO KISS YOU. You have a gift for teaching! Hugs from Brazil.
This is great! I like your style of teaching.
very helpful, i liked being able to see visually what i was trying to do. thanks
Английского незнаю, но Вы вкладываете свою душу в урок для нас! Буду учиться! Большое Вам спасибо!!! 🙏
Wow what a great teacher ! I'am new to playing only for about a month. The way you explain things is great I understand everything a little better tks I'll be subbing to your channel
Ri muito quando vc disse,: súper ease!!!😄
Great lesson. Thanks so much.
I’m gonna work on this for the next week!! Ty
This is brilliant, thank you.
Thanks much JP! Great lesson, very simple, but also very powerful and helpful
Genial mi amigo! Tus videos me son de gran ayuda!!!
I will say that I like you, and I think you are pretty descriptive and helpful when it comes to explaining the notes and how to bend and unbend. It's just your scale on the wall that gets confusing because you're kind of all over the place in a way and you bounce around and that makes it a bit difficult to follow if you're not paying very close attention. I dig it for the most part and I also appreciate it. Thank you!
Dude is all over the place.
Great teacher!
Thanks! Improving a lot!
Such a great and encouraging teacher! Much appreciated.
Right? Glad you liked it!
I'm new to this, I can get the first two lines but can't grasp what to do in the last line.. will keep watching this and practising. Thank you!
best video lesson i have seen yet...thanks bro
Many thanks, I learned a ton of stuff from this video. Some of it I knew already, but I was just avoiding doing it. My only problem: My 4 note can't bend quite as deep as yours. I'm using a Hohner Bluesband.
Thanks a lot! You're real Django with this ))

You're funny
Wow that was a fantastic video!! Thanks!
Our pleasure, Zadok!
Rock on,
Luke
coolJP. NICE APPROACH!
Harmonica is a great instrument for people who either never had classes for other instruments or never thought about playing any instruments. Once you understand a lot of music with harmonica you’ll find it easier to understand other stuff with other instruments.
Yeah, roger that. Great instrument for ANYBODY!!!!
Aloha,
Luke
Thank you JP. This lesson I must admit was a little more of a challenge, will have to practice and will also come back to this lesson again. One comment/question - the Ta sound is with the tongue down at the tip? The Toe is easier as it sounds like Toe. Thank you for your lessons.
hi, the way you share your knowledge is awesome. So which type of harmonica should I start, or like the one that you play on this video . Is that diatonic type or pentatonic ?
Obrigado !
This is so very useful and i thankfully greet you from Barcelona, Spain. I am a subscriber right away.

Wich harmonica do you use...can u let a link?? Thank you..😃😁
Steve Vai had a nervous breakdown, quit guitar and is now teaching Harmonica online to make ends meet? Ibanez did a real number on this poor bloke!
All jokes aside; great video. Very helpful. Thank you, and may the algorithms bless you.

Using c note. Cant seem to get the bottom notes down. It doesn't sound the same
My hohner Marine band #c just arrived. First thing is it's nothing like the toy 5$ one I tried to use for years. The next thing was I noticed when I matched a note, that didn't happen before Hohner. Oh boy.
Grate !!! 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Olá. .. poderia ter tradução. ...from Brasil.
The /-45 -'4 on its own is good to learn and practice
J.P., how are you doing? I pray that all is well with you.
J.P., you are much loved and admired by many. When and if you can, send us a word. We still think about you.
Good luck and good health.

why does my dog always sit beside me and stair at me while im using my harmonica, is my dog like the tunes of harmonica, is there a connection or can my dog relate to the sounds that makes my dog come with me everytime i practice. sounds weird. i like your videos, and as a beginners, that triggers me to learn everyday.
Dog days and the blues man
Might be dog likens it to howling. Dogs howl to communicate with their pack
My dog and cats too
It's an instinct for them, used to communicate with the pack and find lost pack members, but my dog loves "jamming" with me, he prefers E harp in 2nd pos. (B) but he will jam to A and C too,
Merci beaucoup l'Ami !!!
You're welcome!
What notes do these correspond to ?
Blues scale is Root, Minor 3rd, 4th, Tritone, Fifth, and Minor 7th.
In key of G: G - Bb - C - Db - D - F
What is a half step bend?
13:55
It's when you ben one semi tone down. For example, going from a D to a D flat note.
why is it called 'adding dirt' ?
Genio
/-45 what's that?? How u play that??
