Very informative video on the SSM! My father served in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign with the USAFFE during WW2 and received his SSM in addition to the BSM, his PUC w/1 OLC, APC Medal, Philippine PUC and his Philippine Liberation Ribbon w/2 Bronze Stars. Thanks for showing some examples.

I just heard that my friend passed away, he was a silver star recipient in Vietnam. We talked about his award one night at the VFW. His daughters are my cousins, they're probably going to find his medals and read what he did. Told me he didn't really want them knowing that about his actions that day. Sometimes a small medal can weigh a lot more than you'd think.

My buddy went to army boot in the early 2010s. Said there was a guy in his mid 30s who was prior service going through boot again all the DS's were giving him a hard time for whatever reason. I guess he blew up on one of them and a lot of words were exchanged. DS later apologized once he found out the guy was a silver star recipient. Left him alone after that 😅

What separates the Silver Star, Service Crosses and the Medal Of Honor, if all of them are for recognition of valor?

The Medal of Honor is specifically for "above and beyond the call of duty." This means it is awarded for heroism and valor to those who did something they did not have to do. The service crosses and silver star, as well as other lower awards, are for varying degrees of heroism or circumstance.
