The whole saga is all about "What does it take to break Luffys will?" The boy with the infinite willpower.
This saga proves that Luffy is not ready for the New World! (So people doesn't count Thriller bark as a part of this saga, but I do.)
Moria warned him that he is not ready and it shows that he isn't. He did all that he could, he almost died and even unlocked haki! But even with all that it's still not enough. 😢
Fun fact, in the manga the chapter in which ace takes the blow from akainu also ends with a cliff hanger, and the name of the next chapter was something like "the death of Portgas D. Ace" oda is just as bad as funimation at spoiler free titles

It's kinda bad in retrospect, but when it came out it was good. The previous chapter left everyone shocked, so after a week of intense waiting we're immediately told by the title "Yeah, Ace IS dying." Which makes it sadder because you KNOW that each page you read you get closer to Ace's death.
However now that the chapters are out and you can just marathon it? Yeah! It kinda sucks. I've been introducing my gf to One Piece and when we got to that chapter she was like "Wait what? He's dying???" Meanwhile I'm thinking "Did you... Did you not just read the previous chapter ending where Ace got skewered with me?" However it makes sense since she had like, a minute in between the chapters to process it while I had a week to realize that Ace had no way to survive. Therefore making the title "AcE dIEs" a simple confirmation of my expectations, rather than something that FEELS like a spoiler even if it really isn't one.

This really showed prominence with finally revealing a weakness to Logia Devil Fruits. When it comes to Logias, they become living elemental incarnates; but here it showed Logias (by each other in this case) can be damaged/fatally injured if they're overwhelmed by comparable affinities by an elemental hierarchy. In this case which the elemental hierarchy for this example showing that while fire & magma are similar, the power-clash of the Element of Fire is Inferior to the Element of Magma. In case of people wanting to confirm; the devil fruit power hierarchy is officially talked about in SBS Volume 79; but I guess if anything in technicality that it is sorta touched upon in mainly ch 573 (and partial 574 as slightly carries on in minimal talk)

Oh shit I thought this was gonna be the next vid 😢. Also I love these sections of Arcs since Saboady first Luffy loses his crew, then Impel Down he was powerless B4 Magellan and then it all cultivated into him losing his brother he was always able to overcome all his obstacles til this part I'm the series to now realize he's powerless against the top echelon of this world great character development
I'm gunna say it. Losing the Going Merry is more impactful of a loss.

There's a lot to discuss here but I'm gonna save a bunch of it till the end of the saga since it's more relevant then. But I'm genuinely surprised you didn't get spoiled on this since it's like the worst kept secret of the show alongside Gear 5. Rip Ace.
Even the series spoils you, the manga chapter as well as this episode is titled "The death of fire fist Ace" lol
Several times in the past I've had people aggressively trying to spoil me on things in One Piece by commenting all the biggest spoilers out of context in capital letters. I tend to be pretty quick at my brain realizing what type of comment it is and blocking them immediately. I'm almost certain several people tried to spoil it for me, but I was quick on the draw and didn't get hit by it.
Happy to see you were about to avoid this Ace spoiler. It's one of those things that was hard to avoid back in the day and honestly i thought you were already spoiled from before.
