Thank you for featuring the Binondo Church. It means alot for us Catholics. The first filipino martyr and Saint as canonized by the Catholic Church used to be a mass server in that church and he is a Filipino Chinese by decent.

You look like you know your way around Chinatown! Walking briskly to all the famous food places. I'm glad you don't waste food by taking a few bites only for the camera and leaving the rest. Enjoying your takeouts at leisure is the best way to do it. Now I'm hungry, darn.

I love all food but I would have to say Asian and Mexican food is my favorite. That includes the Philippine cuisine. However though I am not fond of balut. That's just nasty. I really do like the both of you videos

    • @gramirez72
      @gramirez72 2 года назад +3

Just fyi, not all Filipinos eat or like balut, myself included. There’s so much unnecessary hype behind it.
Balut is typically street food, it’s not something that you would normally find in a party at someone’s house.
There’s no need to mention it. Dont even bother.

The Chinatown in Manila was established by the Spaniards for the Chinese who converted to Christianity. The Spaniards put them in that area because it is outside the walls of Intramuros (where the Spanish governor general and most of the Spanish lived), and it could be reached by cannonballs in case there was an uprising by the Chinese and the Spanish needed to put them down. Very long and interesting history.
Prior to the arrival of the Spanish, Chinese merchants, as well as other nationalities such as Indians and Japanese, have been living in Manila in order to conduct trade with the Filipinos.

Hmm. Phuket and manila are different places in terms what they can offer. The proper comparison would be manila versus bangkok or pukhet versus boracay. Go to both Thailand and the Philippines. But it is easier to converse to people here in PH.
If you go to Manila, note that Manila is the City within Metro Manila. Metro Manila is composed of many cities. Manila city is the historic side. If you prefer the more modern side, BGC and Makati are the top destinations (which are within Metro Manila). Pasay is where you can find the largest mall as well as some of the larger casinos. If you want to shop cheaper products, go to divisoria (cheapest but really chaotic) or greenhills in San Juan (more organized).
If you want beaches, then the Visayas is the better place to go. Cebu city is the largest there and can open you to the other destinations such as bohol, boracay, siquijor, or even Palawan. Siargao was once the best but it was devastated by the typhoon.

people outside of the Philippines hear the news about how bad the Philippines is. To be honest here in America it has more crimes. Just yesterday on the news there is another random shootings in downtown Sacramento. It's a monthly shooting spree here in America of people getting shot at with no apparent reasons. To me the Philippine crime statistics is low compared here in the U.S.

Statistically, Philippines crime rates are slightly above the US but significantly lower than most countries in Latin America. Most parts of Asia are safer than the US, Japan is the safest (…not Singapore, although it’s very safe too)

Friendship For Business and Food we have Chinese ,even before xin ping government we have manage our friendship in business with China. Our Chinese people living here.only wanted freedom from the mainland.
As for U.S.A it's a Military Friendship Long before The Spanish Era.

Not oldest Chinatown in the world. That is simply a lie. More likely it would be a country next to China. In addition, read about the early day of Chinatown there and you will learn about the many times it was burned to the ground. Not surprising, but still shocking.

Well Wikipedia list Binondo as the oldest Chinatown. If you protest then present your evidence and revise the Wikipedia article.

Actually it would make more sense for it NOT to be a country next to China. I would imagine that a neighboring country on the same land mass would already have some cultural fusion with China, possibly. There wouldnt be as strong of a need to have a “Chinatown”. And what were those borders like centuries ago anyway?!
The Philippines is just southeast of China, about 700 miles from its southern coast. Migrating by boat across the sea to Manila is a clear departure from the homeland. If the Chinese wanted to explore the world, it would make sense that the Philippines, or Manila, would have been one of the first places to discover.
The distance and the body of water in between creates enough of a need to establish a Chinese community or district.
I imagine traveling 700 miles across the seas was probably no easy journey in the 16th century.

Chinese in the Philippines started migration as early as 5th century (see google records). However, only in the 15th century that throng of Chinese permanent settlers came about when Manila-Acapulco (Mexico) galleon trade commenced. The trade is recorded as the first East and West international trading and commerce. It was during this time that Chinese-style businesses flourished in the Philippines. They settled together in a place mainly for their security hence the creation of the first China town (district) in the world.
The said galleon trade exchanged asian spices and Chinese goods such as porcelain, ivory, silk etc. with mostly silver products from the west.
