    It's amazing to me how little WCW did with Sting after putting the world title on him at their biggest PPV of all time. Crow Sting was one of the hottest things in wrestling in 1997, and here we are, just a few months later, and he's basically a footnote to the Hogan vs Savage rivalry in his own world title defense. Crazy.
    Compare that to how prominent Austin is on WWF programming for basically the entire year after winning the title at Mania 14, and it's night and day.

    • @troywright359
      @troywright359 Год назад +8

      Possibly Sting could have been focused on more, but what about Goldberg? You would have him beat Sting, or not beat Sting, or not have a titleshot at all?
      Looking at this year in general, I don't think it's easy to say "create an Austin replacement via Crow Sting on Nitro and let that be the main focus." I don't think Sting vs Bischoff would have been great, it would have felt like when the WWE copied the NWO with their gang wars. I do think Sting falls off way too hard towards the end of 1998, but realistically both him and Goldberg should have led the charge against the NWO Elite in 99.

    • @SadisticBlessings
      @SadisticBlessings Год назад +11

      @@troywright359 I'm not saying WCW should've literally copied Austin's booking for Sting in 1998, only that Austin's storylines and rivalries were the main focus of WWF television in 1998 and Sting at least deserved some of that spotlight during his title reign. Even as champion, he feels like a minor character in the NWO story. His defense against Hall at Uncensored wasn't even the main event, and his match with Savage here had almost no heat between the two with the booking being entirely focused on the Hogan vs Savage rivalry. He feels totally directionless as a character.
      I'm not trying to fantasy book all of 1998 here or anything. But after beating Hogan at Starrcade Sting should've just run through a few NWO guys and then let the faction start to fall apart due to infighting. Savage didn't need to win the world title here for that to happen. And Sting could've had a couple more months to feud with someone new for a change. WCW's roster was stacked at this time, there were plenty of options - Sting vs. Brett seems like an obvious dream match.

    • @troywright359
      @troywright359 Год назад +2

      @@SadisticBlessings i can agree his match with hall should have been made a bigger deal and he could have had....i don't know about too big of a focus, but certainly more clearer storylines and motivation that he has direct involvement in, before dropping the title. It's hard, because part of Hollywood Hogans character was that he was focused on the world title all of the time, so I don't know if you could have have kept him separate from the NWO as champ for too long. But yes i agree he could have been booked better up to, or maybe not too long past this point. It's just that Goldberg's rise kinda makes things messy - i don't know how long his unbeaten run lasts if sting drops the title to him at starrcade 98

    The Benoit vs Booker T best of seven series they had was one of the most underrated parts of the Monday night wars. Them were some classic matches and you never hear them getting the recognition they deserve. I get that Chris Benoit did what he did but that doesn’t mean he didnt have some absolute classics in WCW. Booker got the recognition he deserved I’m glad to see.

      "I get that Chris Benoit did what he did but that doesn’t mean he didnt have some absolute classics in WCW" - What Benoit did - tying Nancy up and choking her to death with a cable, then murdering his seven year old child Daniel in his sleep - renders anything that occurred in kayfabe completely and utterly irrelevant. Wrestling just doesn't matter anymore as far as Chris Benoit is concerned.
      However, I have no issue with these matches being discussed, as ignoring them would be unfair to Booker. He does not deserve to suffer because of Benoit's actions. They were classic matches and Booker deserves that recognition.

    Saturn's honestly one of the most underrated workers of all time. Shame his addictions got the better of him and he ended up in the situation he is. Saturn's story after wrestling is a genuine tragedy. He came across two thugs sexually assaulting a woman one day and intervened to save her. One of them pulled a gun and shot Perry, which is what lead to his painkiller addiction. I was never a huge fan of his character but in real life the guy is a legit hero.

    After such a huge buildup to sting winning the belt, for it to end so soon, after so few defenses and feuds, with such a wet fart of a match, and just to lose it to macho so that macho could lose it right to back to hogan is insane. It’s crazy how many times hogan made Macho lose to him so many times in wcw because of that one time macho beat hogan in wwf. My hatred for hogan grows daily, can’t believe I was a fan back in the day

      It would have been easier to swallow if Macho was able to hold the belt for a while longer. I know he was injured but he wrestled all the way to June. He could have had a three way storyline with the NWO exploding and Sting trying to win his belt back, only to join the Wolfpack after Hollywood screws them both over. I don’t think Hogan defended the title once between when he wins the belt and when he drops it to Goldberg

    Honestly amazed that WCW's number for Goldberg's streak is actually so close to the real thing, at only 8 more. You'd think WCW would have exaggerated it even more so & had it be over 80 by now, or something. Also, while I think it's a little messed up that Raven only winds up with a 1-day US Title reign, I can understand wanting a heel transitional champion, so that DDP wouldn't be sacrificed to Goldberg so soon; we'll have to wait for Halloween Havoc later in the year for that to happen.

Has this been done a lot, one wrestler doing all the work, cutting the promo’s, getting the story over and the crowd enthused right up to the actual match when the other guy shows and reaps the first guys hard work and whose done it better and why is that a trick question, the answer is Jericho, the answer is always Jericho.

    • @butchvito

      Did you not watch the Hogan promo right after he turned heel? NWO were meant to appear as the WWF were invading.
      "These two men right here came from a great big organization up north and everybody was wondering who the third man was. Well, who knows more about that organization than me, brother?"
      In an angle that was meant to appear as WWF invading WCW, you would have made Hall & Nash the leaders over Hogan? No one would have bought that shlt, no matter how much cooler The Outsiders were than Hogan.

      @@tysoncarpenter8628 it's not an argument, you don't need to feel attacked. yes hall and nash were cool, but I think Hogan made it clear right from the start, that he was the main dog of the NWO. The story with Scott Hall getting screwed after winning WW3 was good, and Nash losing confidence in Hogan as well and siding with Savage made sense. please, this is just sharing opinions, i'm not saying 'you are wrong' or ' stop talking and listen to me'.
