Chuck develops this "electricity sensitivity" psychological disorder after divorce. Jimmy turns into full-time Saul Goodman after divorce. These brothers have the worst break up coping mechanisms.
They don't come out and say exactly why they divorced, but this scene makes it clear that Chuck is unable to be honest to Rebecca about his problems, so he shuts her out and reacts in ways that seem completely bizarre to her. Small detail but when Rebecca comments on the house being the same all I could think of was Chuck telling Jimmy he’ll never change. Sounds kind of self reflective seeing as Chuck is the one is failing to change or move on.
I just realise a lot of the problems between Chuck and Jimmy's relationship could have been solved if both people were just honest and direct about how they feel. Chuck was never vulnerable about how he felt less loved by his parents than Jimmy. He never shared how upset he was with mom's last words in her deathbed. He never opened up to his wife about how he feels insecure and jealous about Jimmy's charisma. Instead he bottled up all his vulnerable feelings, and eventually it manifested into hatred for Jimmy. He used this hatred to make sure Jimmy never reaches the same level as him, which is a well respected lawyer.
That's probably how it goes for most things in life though ... things work out a lot better with complete honesty, but everyone struggles with vulnerability
Chuck is a pleaser the reason he acts this way to please Rebecca is because hes looking for love just like how he looks for love with his mother his mother but she called for Jimmy instead of Chuck so that's why Chuck is jealous and this is what this whole scene stems from!
The irony of Chuck hating Jimmy so much is that his hatred is exactly what fueled Jimmy's descent into full Saul Goodman. If Chuck had just shown a little love and pride towards Jimmy, he 100% would have ended up a normal attorney living a quiet "respectable" life.
That’s definitely a huge part to it. But I think it was also implied in one of the flashback scenes where Jimmy was at his father’s store that he was influenced by seeing how weak his father was.
His problem isn't even a medical condition, it was his choice to live like that. It developed around the time Jimmy got his law degree, so I guess his "condition" is related to his hate towards his brother. Judging by what went on, he was right about Jimmy in a lot of ways, but his attitude was wrong. Older brothers usually play father figure on younger brothers, like what we see in a flashback scene where Charles is reading some book to Jimmy. As an older brother he should have been supportive and smart about his relationship with Jimmy.

Has a face like he's about to reenact the diarrhea scene in dumb and dumber lol.
💀💀💀
Imagine living in this generation in Chuck's condition. Oh Boy.
Mentally Ill? Yah people got that covered now lol
@@jeremiahhester6408 bro, it’s a mental illness. It’s not a real physical disease.
@@jeremiahhester6408 sorry, your comment about allergies made me think you didn’t understand.
@@zorinzorinzorin5243 Oh yeah it's ok.
Would be even worse if he’d lived into the smartphone/tablet era… mainly they had flip phones in their time setting
I had no idea Rebecca was Ann Cusack! The older sister of Joan and John! CRAZY!
I'm pretty sure it was John in a wig and makeup. "Ann" is a pseudonym.
I was thinking that she looked familiar!
This is the moment when Rebecca passes the bar
Chuck is a pleaser the reason he acts this way to please Rebecca is because hes looking for love just like how he looks for love with his mother his mother but she called for Jimmy instead of Chuck so that's why Chuck is jealous and this is what this whole scene stems from!
yeah my moms take as well was that its all rooted in the idea that their mother liked Jimmy more than him
The irony of Chuck hating Jimmy so much is that his hatred is exactly what fueled Jimmy's descent into full Saul Goodman.
I re-watched season 1 of Better Call Saul and Chuck is totally insane. It took me to see the first season twice to get it.
What?
In the thumbnail it looks as if Chuck is having the mother of all constipations.
Or bowel movement.
Like he's defecating through a sunroof.
You gotta really feel for Chuck; Incapable of having a normal life
His choice to be so filled with hate.
He’s an a-hole, so he deserves it.
@@8461529 Chuck was like a god to Jimmy. If his brother just cared for a second about Jimmy, Saul wouldve never existed. That whole cutting corners thing couldve been avoided if Chuck helped with Jimmys career instead of sabotaging him. Chuck deserved everything
Naaaah... It's all because of his hate towards Jimmy.
Can you upload the other scene where the three are having dinner, and Rebecca is laughing about Jimmy's lawyer jokes?
Reminds me of that scene where Kim used the blender and Jimmy’s PTSD kicked in and when asked what happened, Jimmy didn’t tell her shit.
Chuck and Jimmy have at least one thing in common: they are both wife liars and they are so shitty at it.
They're still better than Walt 😂

Telltale choice:
A: tell her about your condition
B: lie to her
C: tell her you are a homosexual
Imagine someone who has never seen this series watching this scene
Rebecca says "It's my conductor" when calling. This could mean driver but her phone is a conductor of electricity which Chuck is allergic to.
Clever bastards
Driver? She's a professional musician. It's the conductor from an orchestra.
Shit.

Funny how in the background there's the ELECTRIC LAMP that later burned Chuck's house down, right behind Jimmy on the kitchen counter.
I just saw a similar wicked piece of foreshadowing in S1 before Chuck calls Hamlin to cut Jimmy out of the Sandpiper case. He has **that lantern** in front of him and sort of shoves the table away from him. It's a gorgeous pre-echo.
It’s a gas lamp, that’s the whole reason it burned his house down
@@fort809 I mean, electric stuff can still rely on gas to burn. We have old heaters at my part-time job that work like that :>
It's definitely a gas mantle camping lantern, a classic model with no electrical components.
I hope we get another Chuck / Rebecca scene in the final episodes
"Incredibly bad manners"
bro could have just went to the bathroom for a bit 😭 😭
This is edited so well
Meanwhile Walt was teaching chemistry in high school
Thumbnail looks like he either smelt or dealt one very STANK fart
What's sad is that Chuck probably wasnt lying when he agreed with Rebecca that he couldn't believe Jimmy was a lawyer but while she felt pride for him Chuck only felt disgust
Rebecca was proud of Jimmy, Chuck was embarrassed of him
I didn't notice this before... the look of disappointment on his face when she says how the place hasn't changed one bit.
Just go to the bathroom, a locked room away from the phone for a few minutes
Chuck's "condition" is psychosomatic, right?
Yes. They make a point on numerous occasions of demonstrating that he doesn’t notice electronics until he becomes aware of them and they also demonstrate that his perceived physical conditions become worse in response to emotional stress and anxiety rather than any physical cause.
@@adamseidel9780 Thanks, Adam.
@@adamseidel9780 Also, he thinks he feels it when he's obsessing over the meter, but the numbers don't actually change at all, meaning there was no current in the house.
100% psychosomatic!
Yep. In real life medical professionals also have refused to classify this sensitivity to electricity as a real condition and it's offended many people that claim to have it.
He should realize that he was feeling extremely well before knowing about the existence of the cellphone. He should understands that it's in his head.... and seek help
He looks like a crooked southern preacher and/or sheriff in the thumbnail.
The thumbnail is crazy work 😂
maybe if he told her it could've saved chucks life
His plight really hurts
4:09-4:25 Jimmy said "Say something." not "Say the worst possible response you could give in this situation."
Thumbnail is extremely cursed
I love the comment section! Each and every comment is so full of insights!
Jimmy messed up by not leaving him after season 1 like Rebecca.
Thumbnail pic is Chuck's expression when he learns that Rebecca did not pass the bar
You know that moment when you have to fart so you walk away and release a silent one but the fart is so potent that it lingers enough to everyone smells it. Well it has nothing to do with this scene but I thought I would share my experience today
Man!!! I wish I had a Brother like Jimmy.
Ah, the days when people kept their cellphone far away from them unless it was ringing...
Jimmy is way more intelligent than chuck. Chuck is a robot minus the electricity
Chuck definitely chucked it
turns out , Chuck's " condition " Is In his head -what Irony
Anyone else here have an older or younger brother? The bond you have is one-of-a-kind
Just like mothers have a really strong bond with their daughters
Or their children in general
So clichê. Just being related doesn't mean anything. The strongest bonds are those you build and work on because you want it.
No, you are the only one with a sibling in the world
@@Armor3d0ne I disagree. Being related can mean a LOT depending on the situation.
The bond between a parent and their child is considered amongst the strongest but it doesn't require anyone to actually "build" or "work" on it.
Your second statement doesn't always hold true.
Why didn't Chuck just excuse himself to go yo the bathroom? This is why he lanterented himself, he was a fool.

I wonder how different the BCS universe would be if Jimmy actually told Chuck that he was passionate about law rather than telling him he graduated law all by himself
Cause it seems like Chuck relishes on the fact that Jimmy needs him
