Instead of collecting sales taxes specific to each state or county you're working in what I do is list my items as tax included. Then to keep the math simple I set aside 10% of sales for taxes placing that sum into its own account. Unless you're selling in high tax states like California this works fine.

I'm an old guy (75) who just finally broke down (not physically:>] just a figure of speech ) and bought a smartphone (iPhone) mainly to be used for what your video is about. I sell freeze dried candies and have been just taking cash. I think being able to take cards my well increase my sales. Again, Thank You!

If I was planning to just mark up my prices for sales tax so I don't have to add it to customer's totals at a craft show, can I just leave sales tax blank in the Square settings?

I do not believe you pay transaction fees. You do pay listing fees. Your inventory is symbiotic

Hi Ivon! That is very interesting. Which device do you have? My guess is that if you have the Bluetooth you need to disconnect from the original device. Try logging on on your account via a computer and maybe that will help!

Hi Samantha. I am new to Square reader & contactless chip: I am an artist and want to use the reader for sales (hopefully) at my exhibition. Do I have to create ITEMS or etc as if this I am using Square as a mini website etc or can I just tap and charge the card and issue a receipt?
Great question! You can make your values as you go, no need to create an inventory. Inventory just helps with data after the show and speedy checkout!

How do you sync your Etsy with square?
Per squares website…
Integrate With Etsy
Connect to Etsy by going into your Etsy dashboard > Shop Manager > add Sales Channel > Select Square and go through the OAuth flow. You can also visit the Etsy website for more information.

Since your Etsy is connected to your square reader, when you collect sales tax is it remitted by Etsy automatically just like it is when they collect it or do you need a sellers permit and have to pay those taxes on your own?

I am not sure, I would assume that I can print the tax document through Etsy as the sales are recorded through the portal. That is how I have printed it in the past. This is my first year with in person sales using square.

I don't know if you found that out but I'm just doing this for the first time too. I got my sales tax number because I assume Etsy won't pay those taxes because they aren't actually going to get the money - Square gets the money and disperses it to you. That means tax number and quarterly or annual reports to your state for sales tax unless your state (5 of them) doesn't have sales tax. Some places also have local city taxes. I think the benefit of syncing through Etsy is that you just get the credit for a "sale." Also, I'm going to try giving a 25% discount for each item at local show to take out my Etsy shipping. I guess it's a choice between syncing with Etsy to help your sales ratio (which might help us Etsy newbies) and going to the trouble of doing a discount on each sale vs rounding all your prices to even dollar amount for ease at a craft show. Some people add the tax into their prices but my local taxing entity said you have to show the tax amount paid on your receipts to customers. It's certainly a learning process.

How do I unsync my etsy shop. My prices are slightly lower at the market than Etsy because I don't have to cover shipping. I synced it and want to go back to what I had before. Please help.

Disconnect from Square
If you need to disconnect your Etsy shop from your Square account, go to the Square Sales Channel page and select disconnect my shop from Square near the bottom of the page.

Hello, thanks for the video. Have you ever heard about solving syncing issue? I am keep struggling with syncing Etsy and Square. It suddenly happened like an accident and this is Hell. I can't find any solutions yet. Everyone who had the same issues, said the same thing. Kinda mysterious unknown error. I did everything I could do but all didn't work. Now I tried to connect with new Square account, but etsy connected with the old account automatically repeatedly! I have a show this Saturday, please help me. 🙏

So if I added shipping cost on my product on Etsy so it looks for appealing with free shipping, when I do in person events and use the square reader and connect it to my shop, will I be able to add in my own price so shipping cost isn’t added or do I need to start putting actual prices on my Etsy listings and shipping separate?
Great question! If you add your shipping prices into your listing and sync with your square your in person prices will match online. Two ways to fix this. One, you can add a shipping discount (either $ value or %) in your square and add that discount on every transaction. Two, you can make new items in square. Problem with one, if multiple items are added, discount might not be right. Problem with two, your inventory counts and reports will not line up. Hope this helps!
Great video! I’m not finding out how to find my items from my Etsy account in the square app? Do you just put it in manually but then how does Etsy know that particular item was sold if you’re not clicking directly on the item ? I’m so confused 🫤 i pushed the sync button in the Etsy app. But I don’t see my inventory in the square app. Technology confuses me 🤣
Thanks for watching! Make sure your accounts are linked together. Did you order your reader through Etsy or through Square? They should sync together by refreshing in your Etsy app using the “Sync your listings with Square”. Also check if your square location is correct. Hope this helps! What if ur selling food at a Farmers market?? Do I still charge tax??? I'm just going by food cottage laws.
I am not an expert, but I would think you need to charge tax for every single item just like a normal store.

Are you trying to use the same inventory from square and Etsy? If that’s the case. Lower the price, sync to sqaure, turn on vacation mode WITHOUT resyncing. Do the show, get off vacation mode, adjust pricing and resync

I have a contact less reader. It works only if I am busy, a sale every few minutes or it goes to sleep, and will not connect to the phone. Then I am back to hand keying cards. Any suggestions before I look into a new company?

I got a contactless reader earlier this year. I have not had this problem. My guess is that one of two things is happening. 1 - the reader needs to be charged and has low battery. 2 - your phone might have a setting turned on that does not allow background app refresh. If you aren’t busy, close the square app, it will likely disconnect. Try charging the reader and keeping the app open the whole show. That’s my best guess

How are Square Fees Calculated
Etsy does not charge an additional fee for items sold through Square via inventory sync, and will have the same $0.20 auto-renewal listing fee as online listings sold through Etsy.
When you sell an item via Square that is not synced with your shop listings, Etsy will charge $0.20 USD per transaction. This will show up on your Etsy bill as a 'Square manual' fee.
Square will charge additional processing fees that vary by the type of sale.

Absolutely! Just keep in mind you will be paying the cc fees per transaction. You can either offset this to the customer as a fee or add it into the price

What if you are a non profit (for instance a booster club selling food at a high school snack bar)? Is there a way to not pay sales tax or have a flat fee?
Thanks for watching, Mark! You don’t have to add sales tax when you do transactions. If you are a part of a non profit then you would just take the necessary tax filing steps after your sales.

Square can permanently add exact sales for you & if needed they can add a convenience fee of any percentage to cover the square transaction fee, or split the fee with customer.

If you add the sales tax is going to show as income. Its better to keep it separate
