- I fish Stolford on the North Somerset Coast - Monday Dec 5th. A big tide (2.1 to 10.9 m Hinkley Point), fishing last 2.5 hr of the flood and 2 hr of the ebb. Stolford is a high water mark only
A nice codling saves the day
I will always recommend you try and look at Bristol Channel Marks at low tide, as the tidal range can be massive
Tackle used :
Rods (Daiwa Tournament Surf TNS142M, Daiwa Saltist 1422M-AU, Penn rampage surf)
Penn multipliers : Mag 525's (Mag 3 , Mag 4 versions) , Abu 6500 Elite
Pulley pennel rigs with size 2/0 - 3/0 hooks (Varivas big mouth extra) with 3/0 chinu. 18 to 36" snood length
Varivas sport 20 lb main line , 92 lb shock leader and rig body (Trabucco flouro coated line) . Snoods were 50 lb black amnesia
170, 190g grip leads - no today pull on either ebb or flood
Bait used :
Fresh blow lugworm supplied by Reel Fun Fishing at Portishead. Frozen unwashed squid
Parked at Stolford (No charge), directly behind the coast / beach
Walked towards Burnham for mark, approx 0.8 km. Followed the track at the back of the man-made sea defence, then dropping down (left) into the field behind the shingle bank. Walked just past where the tide has broken through the shingle bank
The ground at the mark is a mix of soft mud, broken rock and sand
Local advice I had was to fish on the broken ground. If you want a ray, fish on the mud !!
Really enjoyed your simple straight forward approach. Described the mark, state of the tide, your rigs and bait and how long you left the baits out. You deserved that cod.
I get quite exasperated by the presentation style of some of your contemporaries.
Keeping it real makes a real difference. We all blank now and again !

Kevin
Thanks and appreciate the comments. That session was followed by 2 stinkers - both blanks !! I post the videos anyway , as you say, that's fishing

Well I think if we were all going to catch just 1 fish on a session, and had to choose, then it would be a beautiful looking cod like that, well done & hope it tasted great. Cheers….👍👌🍻
